Montreal punks were always welcoming and great to me, even though i could'nt speak a bit of french. They'd always invite you along to thier punkhouses, share dope, booze, or their squeegy corner, even if it had 7 people already waiting in line. Used to call Montreal the last rock n roll city in canada...long after the anglo cities had embraced hip-hop oriented fashion and culture, you'd still find beautiful girls in classic miniskirts and studded belts in montreal, and street punks who still knew how to rock n roll. Went to my first real punk show at this place called backstreet underground...you went down like 2 stories under the street from this door in an dark alleyway, and there was wicked street punk bands and mohawks and chelseas everywhere...fucking awesome people Cheers from nova scotia

I had lived in Campbell, Ca for a long time. I had always known Lars lived there. It wasn't until one night my band was taking a break from recording our own album in downtown Campbell at a place called Studio B. We went to the Taco Bell on San Tomas Aquino rd and Campbell ave. This was right when Out Comes The Wolves was out and my bandmates were obsessed with Rancid. We walked in a saw a dude with a crazy ass mohawk and punk AF from head to toe. It was Lars. We couldn't believe it. It was like being punched in the face and not knowing how to react - we couldn't even talk or say what's up. We were all star struck. No one said a word. We ordered our food and we ran out of there with our orders screaming & jumping in joy. On the way back to the recording studio we picked up some beer, slammed it and had this crazy fire under our ass's to play the best we could. A night in 1995 I'll never forget until the day I die.
Of course Lars replaces the one earnest piece of advice in the song with some generic rock cliche about MUH GEETAR. The Chad folk troubadour vs the virgin punk.

Late 90's early 2000's punk is some of the best stuff there is. I'm glad that I got to grow up and come of age in a time when the music and scene was so cool. Not that there's not plenty of good music out there today (or from way back when), but it was just a special time...
Billy's original will always reign, but Lars does a purty respectable version himself.

Just for the record... this is a Billy Bragg song. Lars didn`t write it. A lot of you seem to think he did. And me saying this doesn`t mean his version isn`t brilliant. Because it is.

Bryan Peters Lars actually references Billy Bragg in the Rancid Song “The Wars End”. Lars has been a lifelong fan of Billy. I love Billy(before that Wilco bullshit), Back To Basics is one of my all time favorite albums!
