3rd Time Lucky The New Hornby LMS Black 5 Renamed & Sound Fitted Unboxing

- The not so new tooled Hornby Back 5 i ordered way back in April, the first model got sent back twice and i was promised a new model which arrived on 20.07.24, this loco has been renamed, numbered and had sound fitted by TMC.

Hi Al glad you like the loco but yeah realistically i cant be spending this sort of money on one loco, i really wanted a black 5 and wanted a preserved example, after ordering this i see the shildon shop is having a eric treacy model done now so that would be a much cheaper option than what i paid but still to buy a new tooled model now over 200.00 then add sound its another 150.00 and any lights or customising on top of that takes you well over 400, i did generally stick with bachmann and even dapol as there locos usually come with a sound fitted model as well as a preserved example and its usually around a 100.00 more for built in sound rather than buying a sound decoder for 120 and having to either fit it or get it fitted for extra cost, thanks as always for your input and for watching. The Hornby Black Five is a stunning model when it works properly. TMC really should've tested their models before sending them out.
Hi yes unfortunately i thought that was the case even when i ordered it and all the negative comments came out about this model having running issues i thought theyl test and makesure its a good one before spending money working on it, i herd good things about them and they always have nice looking stuff at exhibitions i wondered whether theyd just grown to big and dont have the staff for all the orders, hopefully mine was just a one of but i dont think ill be getting another one done anytime soon, thanks for watching. Hi Stuart, glad you like the loco but yeah the prices are ridicilous now for a ready to run model and even more when u want to add sound and rename them, am going to have to be more cautious in what i buy now as its definitely getting harder to justify spending that kind of money i was eyeing up another bachmann 158 with sound for 329.00 and thought thats still to expensive but arguably better value as it already has sound and full working lights, thanks for watching. I don't know what you do for a living Tom but you must be earning a good screw to be able to pay this sort of money for one locomotive, best wishes, Colin. totally crazy price.
@sanclewphotographic Hi Colin I didn't mention it but I had sold of a fair bit to fund this and my o gauge model, but am in the mind now that these prices now for what I want are getting far to much as am probably having to sell 3 or 4 sound fitted locos to fund one new one, as much as i like this loco now its working if i went back in time i probably wouldnt have ordered it, but now I have it am going to hopefully enjoy it, thanks for watching. The late Eric Treacy made some excellent books over the years, Nice black five I remember them coming thro Mansfield they scared me something chronic as a little lad, All steam and hissing like a dragon good days gone forever.
Your only here once enjoy your models.
TMC are doing a Deltic for me renaming to The Green Howards renumbered of course, Weathering, Crew etc It was the last loco my wife sat in at Staveley before she suddenly passed away, Expecting good things from TMC I'm sure they won't let me down.

All Black 5s have front couplings, for tender-first running to commence because with some preserved railways (like the Llangollen Railway), there's no room for a turntable. The Black 5 runs just as well hauling a train in reverse. Fit a NEM coupling under his front buffer-beam, and you'll see what I mean. Nice engine.

I tried 3 of the LMS ones and they were no good. My BR late crest one is fine though with no issues. I think they came from different factories
@danprice7973 that's a good shout about different factories, I thought it may have been a dodgy batch, i should have mentioned more on the review, after initially pre ordering the model i saw some bad reviews but I thought with mine being customised i thought they'd check the loco worked fine first before doing the work to it but unfortunately not, I did think was it a bad batch because I hadn't seen anything negative about the br version, thanks for watching. Hi, sorry to hear of your troubles with the black 5, custom loco with custom prices, the thing is that they’ve taken your money for the last time as that price is shocking, surely you got a quote before you got the work done, you have learnt a valuable lesson for the future, the secondhand route is not as great as people think, Rails of Sheffield are charging more for secondhand items that are cheaper new and still available, you really have to do your research before buying these days in my opinion, I do hope you make the money you payed back in the future.
Did you ask for the youchoose Zimo sound decoder package? I’m sure Roads and Rails would have been a better option, as for re-numbering I would have sent the shell in on its own to be done, better luck in the future as money doesn’t grow on trees and retailers shouldn’t think we modellers have Swiss bank accounts, thanks for sharing.
@StormmyStormmy Hi I did now about the price to be honest, it's all on there website when u tick the boxes, at the time I was prepared to pay it but i think i just got so disapointed with the first 2 that it made me realise its to much for what you get, other places were the same sort of price, I used to use olivias but my last model from there came back damaged and wasnt properly rectified, I think just in general the prices are getting to high it wasn't so long ago that you could buy a new model for 150.00 or less and have it fully customised for under 400.00 with smoke, lights and sound
