They want a 100% Sony owned multimedia franchise equivalent to the likes of Fate and Idolmaster, which they have big fat fingers in those pies through their animation company Aniplex. The article where that quote was from an article promoting that they're investing a lot into making that happen.

From everything I gather about this guy, it seems like he thought that Days Gone was the game that was going to put him on the map like how TLoU and GoW 2018 out Neil Druckmann and Cory Barlog on the map so to speak. Like he was really egotistical like that and when the game actually came out to middling reviews he blamed everyone else for it. Apparently Sony even force him to take anger management classes because he was hard to work with. Personally I thought Days Gone was a decent 7.5, nothing bad but nothing that made it stand out either
Sony had one of the best Killzone games made by a different team on Vita and instead of handing them the keys, they asked them to make a VR game which was actually good then they closed the studio down.
The only thing I remember about Day's Gone is that a bunch of "anti-woke" people bought in protest of The Last of Us Part 2. Apparently that was the devs intended audience though. People who also have to go to anger management.
My issue with Sony while the majority of the IPS have their fans, if those are particular IPs are not making Spider-Man or God of War levels of money for Sony, Sony will acknowledge the IP but continue to sit on it and never make a new game. For example, as great as Gravity Rush is a game, it will never sell Spider-Man numbers and there not considered an important enough IP to bother making games. That is what sadly the CFO of Sony is saying
It's an overall industry-wide problem of executives only praising games that had a big investment and a BIG return, or complaining about games with a big investment that did not get much of a return. Meanwhile failing to agknowledge games that had a modest investment and make a modestly decent profit. They will put out a handful of smaller scale games like these, but not like in the old days when there were a ton of little and medium sized games were pumped out frequently. The measure of "success" has gotten higher in the eyes of the ones up top.

Come on
Watching this clip made me remind everyone that unfortunately due to combination of pretentiousness and being tweeted to too many times about, Tim Rogers call the boku no natsuyasumi cameo in astro bot a disgrace while still not had the chance to play it due to traveling as of his last friday stream.
Even if its a funny situation, the most annoying thing from all this kerfuffle is how people are taking this an an oppourtunnity to sh*t on the game. Like other people worked on or were apart of this game, i dont think its fair to them to diminish their work even if the the game is a solid 7/10.
Watching Sony once again stumble over mistakes they've made in the past like this feels like coming home to visit the folks only to find out your parents were doing Meth your whole life and suddenly all the mistakes of they've made during your childhood suddenly clicks and the illusion is utterly shattered XD
This is so funny because Days Gone is the most meh plot ever but he always acts like the games story is Casablanca Also the woke thing is hilarious because we had a decade of people mocking the brown haired angry protag it wasn’t woke it was played out
That's the thing: making the protagonist literally any minority and being able to explore their dynamic as a biker and maybe involved with a biker gang would with any decent writing chops make for an inherently more interesting story. Like the reason they made the TV show Ironsides isn't because of woke, it's because someone was doing coke in a boardroom and thought "what if our guy was in a WHEELCHAIR?". Boom, instant iconic hit show. Same reason why Stan Lee made Black Panther, not just because woke but because "hey, it'd be kinda cool if we had a black guy doing super shit too". And you know what? It _was_ pretty cool!
I disagree with "brown haired angry protag" being played out, because decent writers can make anything interesting and effective, even if it is used in many stories. DG didn't though. That was the problem. Deacon is a 1%er, but that never translates through in any of his flashbacks (apparently he ran an illegal pot farm, which is like the Diet Coke of class 1 substances). Deacon is said to be a bad person, but in the post-apocalypse, the worst he does is send people to the Work Camp for... Reasons? He never kills the unarmed or is mean to anyone who isn't directly villainous. He's angry for justified reasons, he thinks his wife is dead and the life he loved is gone, but what that life was like was never shown or even really told to the player. Make the story about Deacon realizing that he wasted his life in the past, and he has to let go of his past to become a better person in the post-apocalypse, and that no matter how much he wants it, he can't go back and ultimately shouldn't go back. He has been given a rare chance to restart, and he has to take advantage of that in an increasingly hostile and dangerous world. DG is a solid 7/10, but the story is the worst part by far. You can keep Deacon as the protagonist, but they need to rewrite the entire story and Deacon's character in places to help give it some life it desperately needs.
correct me if im wrong but doesen't Days Gone have like badass biker chicks that kill zombies and bandits? didn't the writer and the director put theose in the game?

Anyone else thought of that smiling friend ceo scene with him saying no one want mascot platformers and it’s sells 🤣🤣🤣
There are absolutely no mirrors in this man's house
The only thing I remember about Day's Gone is that a bunch of "anti-woke" people bought in protest of The Last of Us Part 2. Apparently that was the devs intended audience though. People who also have to go to anger management.
Cool, sony added days gone to their astro bot game. The only thing im just gonna be sad that we'll never gonna get a sequel for it.
The measure of "success" has gotten higher in the eyes of the ones up top.
yo, woolie with the motorstorm callback.
And Twisted Metal. Which even though it got the TV show, it's been since 2012 a game was made. And 2012 wasn't that well recived.
"Kiss my Nugget."
I'm thinking Sony is just nervous about making another crossover game after allstars flopped so hard
Bro, the Dev of Days Gone gets mad about Decan being in Astro Bot, meanwhile ArcSys is like "Yo, check THIS out!" and posts the full Sol Badguy-bot animation on their socials 🤣
And the RE socials loosing their mind on how cute their bots are
It was clarified that the no ips comment was about movies and other media but still stupid
Should have stuck with making Syphon Filter games instead of Zombie Game #1,000,000.
9:13 am I in a time loop? Am I just going crazy? Or does Pat have this spiel just free memorized I feel like this is the third time I've heard him say that in the same video, even though this was posted 15 minutes ago 😅😵💫
I saw a green motorcycle and got a little excited thinking it was a motorstorm reference only to be disappointed that it was fucking days gone instead.... you kidding me motorstorm got 5 games and everyone remembers the hell outta that game and yet it still doesn't get a cute little astro bot with a buggy? Come on
At least it gets to sit with Modnation Racers.
Watching this clip made me remind everyone that unfortunately due to combination of pretentiousness and being tweeted to too many times about, Tim Rogers call the boku no natsuyasumi cameo in astro bot a disgrace while still not had the chance to play it due to traveling as of his last friday stream.
We're so back, Deakers
I'm upset there's no twisted metal bots AGAIN
Otherwise great game.
It's so weird that they put out the TV show and there's no tie-ins at all.
@@zaneseibert I would have thought they just straight up hated twisted metal if it weren't for the show and the re-release of 1 and 2 to go with it.
It's such a bizarrre omission. There's gotta be some kind of story behind it.
@zaneseibert Sony operates in the most schizophrenic ways possible
Try Warhammer 40k: Speed Freeks. It is a nice spiritual successor.
Even if its a funny situation, the most annoying thing from all this kerfuffle is how people are taking this an an oppourtunnity to sh*t on the game. Like other people worked on or were apart of this game, i dont think its fair to them to diminish their work even if the the game is a solid 7/10.
It's such a shame cause I REALLY liked Days Gone . But even the developers of the game hate this guy xD
Watching Sony once again stumble over mistakes they've made in the past like this feels like coming home to visit the folks only to find out your parents were doing Meth your whole life and suddenly all the mistakes of they've made during your childhood suddenly clicks and the illusion is utterly shattered XD
This is so funny because Days Gone is the most meh plot ever but he always acts like the games story is Casablanca
Also the woke thing is hilarious because we had a decade of people mocking the brown haired angry protag it wasn’t woke it was played out
That's the thing: making the protagonist literally any minority and being able to explore their dynamic as a biker and maybe involved with a biker gang would with any decent writing chops make for an inherently more interesting story.
@@fluidthought42 see also: Mayans M.C. Which felt a lot more unique then sons of anarchy
@@FuryXDMGS that is also played out yes
How many times are people gonna misquote that sony quote
What was the actual quote?
The actual quote was meant for other media, such as movies, not necessarily video game IPs.
@@Dracobyte "Whether it's for games, films or anime, we don't have that much IP that we fostered from the beginning," Totoki. "We're lacking the early phase (of IP) and that's an issue for us." They are just admitting that they've done a bad job at taking care of their IP in general not that they don't have any.
I wish there was a soul reaver astro bot
Omg I'm gonna cry RAZIEL is in astro bot too!
What's more outrageous is that there's ZERO representation of Twisted Metal in the game! Where the hell is Needles Kane!? And this guy is complaining his game is being celebrated? Get out of here!
I'm para-phrasing here, but I think Garvin tweeted (and deleted) out that woke reviewers weren't ready for a gruff white male protag. Maybe he's not super familiar with most of Sony's main characters 🤷♂️
Astro bot cost me a free dinner
"Haha, I see my character reduced to a cartoon schill promoting some small game and I’m being harsh? Sit down, my brotha, adults are talking" - John Garvin, rectally pained
Be grateful, not even Cloud was in the game
What is even weirder is that Days Gone did a good job selling 9 million units aprox, so why are you angry at another group of colleagues for getting recognition?
Sorry as I’ve been out of the audience circle for a couple years but can someone explain when did some of ‘TheBestFriends’ start doing vids together again?😅 I was very sad to see that finish but seeing whichever combo of them vibing again would be a treat.
Woolie and Pat never stopped, really. They've been doing this podcast basically since the old channel ended.
Matt and Liam have done stuff together too.
I think its because hes mad that this got green lit and not his dream. He has been bitter since. He is in a poor headspace. And Sony did shaft him despite having a majorly popular IP
The most annoying thing is the "what have you made" argument he did when criticized. That's something a creator with nothing to actually say does.
Pat hears “something something crypto NFT”, neuron activates, he replies “AI sucks!”
it must be a huge improvement since i didnt hear anyone talk about the first one
guess im right
I don't want Jak 4 because those games are fun and Neil Druckmann doesn't believe in fun.
PATAPON MENTIONED
Woolie, you mentioned Infamous as a Sony IP.
A sequel to it along with Prototype was shoved aside for Concord.
You know, I heard they basically shut down Sony's Japan Studio. Every time I hear about Concord is Sony shoving aside something that would have printed money for that damn game.
@@NEEDbacon It's not just about the IPs themselves, but a rampant incompetency issue and wreckless spending behind these studios. Even if they started working on money-printing titles, there's still those two massive issues. Same is happening with Ubisoft right now.
