G'day, mate. I am enjoying the videos myself. I will definitely look forward to this whole car of this restoration once she has all been completed. I will be looking forward to your next video. I hope to catch up again soon, on the next one, from William.
Keep the pacemakers and exhaust as is , sounds so much better, than stock manifold and exhaust, also leave the rear spoiler , its part of the HBD kit ..enjoying the vids
Came here from a post on the Dads Community Facebook Group Chat. Glad I did because I’m diggin your vids mate. Cool car got a soft spot for these 5l vts for some reason. Looking forward to seeing it progress 👻
Welcome mate!!!! I'm glad your liking the context, there's just something about the 5L that drags me in, by no means are they fast but man they are just cool.
The chrome inserts on the lower door trims are not a separate part. I found that out for myself. You need to peel all traces of the old chrome off and use 6mm or 8mm chrome tape.
Rear tail lights are series 2 , series 1 5.0 had amber blinker lenses,so did the side front guard blinkers if U want to be legit,I got a VT 5.0 Berlina but I think the white blinker looks better
Nice work bro and you won't lose any of the money you put into it. In good nick it's a 50K car in 2035. You got yourself the old Holden to pass through the family.
Appreciate it mate thank you....and I hope I get back what I put into it....with cars 9 times outa 10 you don't but I'm going in expecting that so if I don't I won't be upset hahaha
I did a project on a vt 5ltr changed the whole kit to a vx ss kit, changed the colour of the car to turismo blue, we rebuilt the auto and rebuilt some of the engine and she was ready to get a roady but now she’s got a engine knock 😂 so gotta pull the engine back out
great vids mate, love the vt"s as i use to own a S/C vt v6 a while back until i got rear ended. saved the the motor and now going into my vy manual ute. cant wait to see the end product, you got a good deal with the car mate.
awesome vid mate great to see your young bloke giving you a hand I'm currently getting my HQ Ute back on the road after 12 years and my young bloke looks about the same ages as your your fella get them into cars and keep these old beast alive look forward to the next vid mate.
Thanks mate, yeah he loves cars just like I do hahaha absolute rev head at 9 years old lol. I'm getting him more amd more involved in every build so hopefully he catches on and keeps going with it. Goodluck with the HQ mate....love the old stuff
If you end up re-doing the chrome door mould strips in the middle of the doors. There is a place in adelaide that can re-chrome the plastic or you can vynil wrapp them as a cheaper option.
love the vids. keep the longer vids going! hope you keep the extractors it sounds nuts! are you going to eventually tune and see what power it makes? or just interested in restoring? cheers
I'll see where the journey goes I suppose. I will be putting it on the dyno stock then I'll see what the best option is after that. I'm definitely keeping everything on it as it is apart from the stupid low springs lol I'm too old for that shit
Hey mate im not sure if you've got a plan or have one lined up but i have a 5litre 4l60 box here in Adelaide if your in need of one, Have receipts for it built and shift kitted 👍
I have one on its way but it's just standard out of another 5L. Head over to face book oz rebuilds amd send me a message. I'm interested to have a chat
Pretty sure the rear lights are not the original. The series 1 VT tail lights have the orange indicator lens colour, not the clear that you currently have. The series 2 lights look better but I would keep it as original as possible for future value. Awesome video. Your son did awesome. Enjoy your time together and keep the mistakes in the final edit. We all make mistakes. Looking forward to future content.
G'day, mate checked out ur videos and have been enjoying them lately I'm definitely looking forward to this car being restored from start to finish, I'm just wondering why u opted for 5.0Litre over the LS1 5.7Litre just curious hope i don't come across sounding like a prick, I'm not sure on the price differnce are between them or if it was in ur price budget, The LS1 is obviously the superior motor when comes down to performance and horsepower that's no secret by now, I'm certain that the VT Calais models optioned with both these V8 motors, Just that the LS1 was introduced into the series 2 onwards and 5.0L was in series 1 which they started using them from as early as VN and VS models etc. kinda sucks that This was last ever Aussie Built V8 motor being discontinued from the VT, end of era but at the same time I can also relate where ur coming from, mentioning owning a VT Calais back in the day prob with the same 5.0L so it would be very Nostalgic owning something similar or close to it again.. either way still awesome car tho and and good luck with the rest of the restoration I'm really keen to see the car fully restored to its former glory a piece of Aussie muscle car history, U have my support and i've already subbed to the channel too, keep up the great work mate. Cheers
Not at all mate I'm always up for convo no matter the topic. So when I was 18 I bought a 2001 VU SS ute with the beautiful LS1 in it, it had 74k on it and I drove the hell out of it I ended up blowing it up at 130k so I spend a big amount rebuilding and upgrading it back then and ended up goin 11.2 sec down the quarter. JETLS1 was my plate and I absolutely did everything I that ute. Ended up having to buy a house and actually grow up so I sold it. I'm 38 now amd have not owned a v8 since then, I've always wanted to experience a 5.0L so hence the reason of buying one. I was going to buy another ute but this came up and I jumped on it.....wasn't a budget thing was more of an available thing really....appreciate the support my bro amd maybe one day I'll get another LS but for now I'm enjoying the older stuff
Ya really shouldnt see much rust around the VT+ series of cars, the commonality of rust around boot rails and window edges shouldnt be anywhere near as prolific as it was in the older cars. The entire bare shell was run through a PPG ECoat dip (th-cam.com/video/duaBDXGvpqM/w-d-xo.html), completely submerged in a charged tank to ensure the entire body, inside and out, was coated with the dull green ecoat - you can see a bit of it in the spare wheel well. Primer etc. was all laid over the top. Thus rust should be significantly more inhibited - unless we had to rub through the coating to bare metal to fix a defect or something like that - happened. but in the vast majority you shouldnt see bare metal anywhere in the body.
Keep everything mate don’t edit enjoy the time with your son and if he makes a mistake all well all apart of learning
Great job team
he actually did awesome mate i didnt have to take too much out....he's loving helping me out
and we are having fun doing it.
@@Oz_Rebuilds it’s epic content and it’s good to see a father and son do this

@@Oz_Rebuilds that sensor on mine there's a bracket that sits in front of the front radiator
@13th.RareMusic oh awesome I'll have a look and see if it's there if not I'll get one
@@Oz_Rebuilds I can take a picture of mine if you can't get the bracket I can from u pull it just pay postage
I gotta head down to u pull it anyway so I'll grab one when I'm down there. Thank you though I appreciate the offer
Awesome
Doing a great job 🎉
Thanks mate much appreciated....like wise, I'm so hooked on your channel now lol going back and watching all the vids

that ambient air temperature sensor should have a little bracket near the front of the radiator just where it was hanging down mate.@@Oz_Rebuilds
How good does the old 5 litre sound 👌 looking forward to seeing this build as I’m doing the same to my VT SS👍
Love the SS, I was looking for one but couldn't find one in SA with the specs I wanted so I settled for the calais lol

@@Oz_Rebuilds road to 1k mate all the best 👍
This is insane lol I was happy to be on the road to 100 and get there 😂😂😂 never expected any of this 500 and 1k stuff. I'm actually speechless
You didn’t take out the globe holder on the side lights
i noticed that as i went to chuck them hahaha....got them out luckily

Thanks Trent, another person has mentioned the same thing so yes it looks like the yellow are supposed to be there
Yeah he's doing well and didn't make any mistakes on that go so he was really chuffed with himself as much as I was proud of him
Hey there
Are you keeping the tail lights or selling I'm looking for a pair for my vt Commodore
I'll probably sell them mate. I'm buying new ones so these will go. Where are you located? I'm keeping the garnish though
@@Oz_Rebuilds yeah I don't need the garnish, I'm located Barmera SA
Keep the lamp holders for the side indicators usually the replacements don’t have them.
got them out just before i binned them hahaha i was like hang on i need that bit.
I remember making that mistake with my VU SS all those years ago....

Holden should have never died.
Amen to that mate. Greed always kills good things
go with no rear wing
I do like the no rear wing look
100% it will look tidy without and once lowered
I like the wing, it’s subtle and clean
I'm in the no wing boat also. My 99 VT Calais looks classy without one and full leather interior as standard. 304 engine sounds great.
