Thanks mate appreciate it, we grew up with these back in the day so the memories are worth more than any heap of crap new electric....I just gotta get better at speaking to the camera and editing and I'll be right 🤣🤣🤣
Apologies on the quality of this upload everyone.....i rushed it and had a lot of issues on the editing side of it plus i had like 4 hours of footage to compress into a small vid...probably should have made it into 2 uploads....i will sort it for the next upload.....
The initial clear coats go down glossy and dull a little as it dries. Extra coats will result in a clear coat that stays glossy as it cures. Looking good.👍
Thanks for including all your mistakes in the final edit. Makes me feel normal when I make stupid, simple mistakes. Looking forward to the next instalment.
There's no way you just commented on this when I'm watching your rear brake vid hahahahah that's so trippy. I think I stuffed something up as I'm doing them right now 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Byron. I think I'm gonna have a crack at painting the complete car as my painter is pretty flat out at the moment and I don't wanna bother him. I do love the vr calais mate she's a beauty
Oh cheers mate Ill be in Adelaide easter if your not up to much i could bring the VX Calais for a Calais off haha Going in the Murray Bridge Demo Derby Not with the Calais haha
coming along well i look forward to seeing the new paint on the vt ! and a tip for doing the front rotors next time.. need a ten mill bolt two if you have them to get the front rotors off the easy way. see the rotor has the 3 small bolt holes in between the studs that's what the ten mill's are used for... wd on the hub and screw the bolts in and they will pop the rotors off no need to smack with the hammer iv been doing it that way for years, but defo new pacemakers and a rack...keep up the good work !
i saw them after hahaha i was like well that would of been easier hahaha but id already bashed them off with the sledgie... Yeah looking for both rack and extractors now lol
Nice to see you going about things in a similar manner to myself...😊 Yeah replace rack and the headers. I have bought several systems from Advance Headers at Holden Hill. Great product. Great service. Highly recommend. He is always very busy though.
glad to hear that, how satisfying is it when it comes together....yes 100% going to replace them both mate. ill give him a sus anyway and see what i can get....cheers
Nice to see the SS getting some long overdue TLC. Bought my son a VY Calais l67 and first thing i did was change all fluids including diff, transmission and supercharger oil.
HPR 30 for years fault free in my VR S pac 5ltr and yes full mineral oil for these old tyre fryers mate... The HQ in my profile pic runs HPR 30 as well but its far from a standard engine and gets a 1ltr of oil stabilizer as well to make up the 6ltr oil capacity. its fully balanced and blue printed and 12:5.1 comp with big lift custom cam tec cam high flow double hump fuelly heads with huge valve upgrade double row valve springs forged flat tops and adjustable Yella Tera roller rockers harden push rods port matched heads and Edelbrock hi rise performance manifold and 650cfm Holley Street strip dominator Carby MSD 6Al ignition so she's around the 600HP mark at the fly wheel so Shes a solid 500Hp at the rears. The HPR 30 holds up to the punishment no problems... keep up the great content mate another great vid mate.
Top video mate, I see you’re not stuffing around and you’re hooking into her. Don’t forget to drop the diff oil a lot of blokes forget. Specially with lsd. Keen for what’s next, Cheers mouse
The oil you used is fine for a 5L especially one that's done a few k's. 20-50 or 20-60. That one has more zinc in it which is good for old school motors. They specified 20-50 when new. Tolerances in them are nothing like your two Audis, haha. Loving the content mate, glad to see you're cracking into reviving this, quality of the videos is great and I reckon your channel will grow quick!
Yeah nice so I should be safe then hahahah. In the Audi's I use liqi molly so it's a totally different ball game lol. Thank you for the kind words mate, I'm just pumped to get it going
Into my JDM cars more these days but first car was a VL Berlina, still love my holdens and come across this channel, love what your doing, keep it up, it’s not easy filming and making content, going to keep watching as want to see this car saved
Appreciate it mate. I'm definitely into jdm cars hahaha I love a bit of all flavours, love anything rotary and 2jz lol...basically if it revs to a million and sound nuts I love it. You never know I might even build something jdm one day lol prices are a bit crazy these days though
I'm surprised that you didn't replace the rotors with slotted units. I had problems with my VX back in the day with warping the rotors until I upgraded to slotted, best thing I ever did.
Yeah I just used cheap standard stuff for now as I'll more than like be looking for upgrade stuff later. Just needed some sort of brakes while it's all getting sorted so this was the best option for now
Why didn't u put all your shelves on the other side of the wall so u can have more room to pull the car in what were u thinking when u put them there at the start especially when the other side of the wall is bare empty? Nice paint job tho btw
I cant put them on the other side as its to the entrance of the house...also its the side thats used the most and would be annoying having the shelves there. anyway i am going to get rid of them completely eventually lol
OK awesome thank you for clarifying that. I thought it would have been fine but just like double checking, as I hadn't serviced a 5L In about 20 years 🤣🤣🤣
Out of curiosity are you going to change the power steering & diff oil?. Probably the 2 most neglected things people tend to forget about in cars? Looking good btw, great to see a car like that being restored to it former glory, keep up the good work 👍
Yes I definitely will I just bought the fluids for trans, diff and steering.....I'm hoping to get the car on my mates hoist and will do all that when do the gearbox change. Its been sitting for 2 years it would be best if I changed all maintenance items while I'm here
That's awesome man get that beast back on the road hahahaha. They deserve to be driven that's why im saving this one and I can't be bothered with euros anymore
BEST oil for old 5l is Penrite 10TENTHS RACING 15 SYNTHETIC 15W-50. My Vt Clubsport always gets quality oil. I think 20W-60 is too thick. Fully synthetic oil provides better engine protection.
Penrite 10w 40 full synthetic for my sons L67 though i might change to a thicker oil due to it burning a litre between changes. My VE SSV i use Magnatec 5w30. For an older motor a thicker mineral or semi synthetic is fine.
one them has 360k on the clock 🤣🤣🤣 just had major heart surgery and is good for another 300 clicks. The other one is the wife's little Daily that I bought smashed at auction for cheap...they cost an arm and a leg to run so I'm going back to what I know and love lol good old Holden's
Yeah local adelaide joint but I opted for the cheap stuff regretted it immediately. Perfect spot to try it though as it's not important. The rest of the car is getting quality paint
It’s coming along nicely with all the work going into it, it’s good to see someone with the passion to saving/restoring the old vt

Hahaha I make them from time to time we are human at the end of the day these things happen and I'm not ashamed to show them lol.
Genuine back yard shed build. Love it bro. No bs! Best vids cheers
Great work bro and good on ya for having a crack at painting 👍
Im need to give the VR Calais a massive service, brakes and suspension work / love haha

Over 1000 subs now. Congratulations bro. Inspiring me to get mine back running.
Hahaha thanks brother much appreciated....yeah man get it done, nothing better than working on ya car and seeing it finished its so satisfying
Nice to see you using good quality products Rico filters and Penrith oil.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I like Penrith oil I used to live there
Awesome video mate

She is getting the love she deserves.
She definitely is....we can't allow the iconic vt to sit and rot away. It must be revived asap.

The oil you are using is very good for a 5 litre, I always just dump 5 litres in and it’s fine. It’s a good oil as it has higher zinc content.

Did you get the bracket for that sensor?
Not yet man been absolutely under the pump...will try grab one this week sometime
@@Oz_Rebuilds all good. I'm down at u pull it hopefully this week.
hey mate, whats the tool you used to clean up the brakes
Hey mate that was just a wire brush wheel on a drill, you buy the wheel from bunnings or any local hardware shop
My vq statesman has sat around for eight year's so im doing the same as you like your content
That's awesome man get that beast back on the road hahahaha. They deserve to be driven that's why im saving this one and I can't be bothered with euros anymore
Aussies like commodores and its cool to see a 5l getting fixed up i would like to do the same just dont have the spare cash

Yeah I was told nice and thick and mineral is all good. So that's what I'm using. It's got 330k on it so let's see how it goes once I start driving it
Man, you've got two Audi's? Shouldn't they be up on jack stands instead? lol
one them has 360k on the clock 🤣🤣🤣 just had major heart surgery and is good for another 300 clicks. The other one is the wife's little Daily that I bought smashed at auction for cheap...they cost an arm and a leg to run so I'm going back to what I know and love lol good old Holden's
@@Oz_Rebuilds Fair enough! Looking forward to the VT rebuild, those 5 Litre V8s sounds so good with a nice stainless exhaust system.
Where you buy your paint from local supplier
Yeah local adelaide joint but I opted for the cheap stuff regretted it immediately. Perfect spot to try it though as it's not important. The rest of the car is getting quality paint
What paint did you use mate? 2k or acrylic?
Regretfully acrylic....will probably re do it in 2k when the hole car gets painted as the rest will be 2k
Old Holden engines 15w40 AC delco oil in the workshops
Good to know...this is why I ask, will definitely change it up for the right stuff, thanks for letting me know mate much appreciated
My l98 wm statesman I use full synthetic 10w-40 pe penrite same with my old ve 06 ss commy
Are you going to change the diff oil
yeah 100% once i pull the gearbox out ill do both diff and new gearbox before i put it in. also gotta do power steering at the same time.
