Even if you only paid for security staff in the select region, the volume of shipping you'd need to protect is so large that putting a section of guys on each one would be prohibitive. Shipping lines just buy insurance instead or write off the cost of one ship as routine loss. If the cost of the guards is higher than the piracy insurance or the ransom paid for a ship, they are better off without their own guards.

I know guys who couldn't get hired to some local agencies but got hired to the US Marshals, DEA, and FBI. Local PDs can be hard in their own ways. The biggest problem is that they often turn away good dudes for stupid reasons (like god forbid you smoked a joint 2 years ago), are ovelry reliant on the polygraph, and don't have enough continued training for offciers once they've been in the force. Even if you only paid for security staff in the select region, the volume of shipping you'd need to protect is so large that putting a section of guys on each one would be prohibitive. If the cost of the guards is higher than the piracy insurance or the ransom paid for a ship, they are better off without their own guards.

If the private company forced you to pay for them, they would be really corrupt, too. What solves the corruption is letting people refuse to pay and shop somewhere else.

@@36prado you're right that there are fat cops but that's not true about not needing a HS diploma. Pretty much all departments require at least that and some even require 60 college units. I know guys who couldn't get hired to some local agencies but got hired to the US Marshals, DEA, and FBI. Local PDs can be hard in their own ways. The biggest problem is that they often turn away good dudes for stupid reasons (like god forbid you smoked a joint 2 years ago), are ovelry reliant on the polygraph, and don't have enough continued training for offciers once they've been in the force. It's one thing to have a good academy but after that they need more continued training. But i digress. These VIPER dudes are clowns
