Girl were formed in 1979 by vocalist Phil Lewis, guitarists Gerry Laffy and Phil Collen, drummer Jonathon Trevisick (replaced shortly thereafter by Dave Gaynor), and bassist Mark Megary (replaced shortly thereafter by Simon Laffy).
Girl split up in 1982 with band members going on to join Def Leppard and L.A. Guns, among others.

There is nothing like the experience of seeing a great band live. I was too young to see Girl live but have seen Def Leppard and L.A.Guns live many times over the years.

Ahhh i love girl and la guns too
Phil Lewis voice is just the best
l. a. guns vibe 😀👏👍✌️
Now I see why def Leppard went after Phil Collen. Killer time capsule for all in this band.
👍
Hell, in truth I think he was better then than now. Your definitely right.
@@shawnstarks1743 no offence but when he joined leppard and played live on the pyromania tour he wouldn't play Petes solos properly. But he seems to play his solos just fine here.
@@shawnstarks1743i think he peaked from hysteria-adrenalize. after that his playing went down. he was pretty good in Girl, but on the Pyro tour if he was playing Pete's solos, it'd be a shredding mess that sounded like shit. it got cleaner in the late 80s and early 90s
@@LadyHeroineOfficial You know, you said something there. Phil in the later years got caught up in this "shredding kick" and I don't think it's a great thing for Def It's almost like showing off and for some songs it doesn't fit. However, who am I? His house is way bigger than mine.
Sounds early leppard and Guns!!
look Phil Lewis handsome Young

Love this band, Take Me Dancing & My Number some of my fave songs
This is great.
Would have freaked if I saw this in 79/80, What an incredible find i loved Girl, saw them live as support to Kiss and Pat Travers, incredibly before their time should have been huge
Absolutely the first band I ever saw live in January 1980, supporting UFO. I was just 16 and the crowd hated them. I loved them. It was, maybe, the best concert that I have ever seen, although a month later I did see Iron Maiden support Judas Priest. Great times….
@@yorkshirelad1050I’m wondering why the crowd hated them?
Because there's a while load of stupid out there
@@Olya_moka I guess that men wearing makeup is not well received by some types? And, support bands always have a rough time.
@@Olya_moka they were uber confident, and brash and lots of people misread it as arrogance...plus Phillip lewis was going out with Britt Ekland at the time!!!
A great live band. Sad they split up so early. I once roadied for them when they played in Lincoln City. A real nice bunch of guys.
Saw them at the same show, at the Lincoln Drill Hall. Fabulous times.
A very good band, that was a bit ahead of its time. Very underrated, which is a shame. Glad to see them live, so thanks for posting, Cool City Cactus!
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 🤘
Way ahead of their time... And that was there undoing
My number is what started it all of for me happened to catch it on radio one day followed the guys ever since no matter what group they are in
My Number is an awesome song 👍 My first introduction to Phil Lewis was L.A.Guns on their first album, I then checked out Girl and Torme'. I've seen Def Lep and Guns live many times over the years. 🙂🌵
@@CoolCityCactus I would rather time travel and see Girl play than any of those later groups you mention!
@@mjh5437 I too would love to have seen Girl 🤘 If a time machine was possible there are many bands I would love to see live, Van Halen with Roth and an early Hanoi Rocks gig would be a good start 😊
I really liked Girl by then....and still i do!
Awesome! Where has this hid for 40 years?! 💖💖💖💖
I was only about 15 when this record came out and already going to Punk gigs at the Marquee but too young to know Girl were around, and too naive and brainwashed by the PC Wokey rules of Punk to think a band with long hair couldn`t be this good....I REALLY regret not ever seeing them play.
I met both Phil's Collen/Lewis really nice guys
13:05 we finally get a good look at Phil shredding!!
And that is the guitar know as Felix. It was all over the recording of Hysteria!
Thanks for posting this Gem! 🙏✌️👍
Phils playing matured a LOT in Def Leppard
Wow first song's riff is near identical to Iron Maiden's "Twilight Zone" from Killers (1981) it's even in the same key, this must be where maiden got the riff from. Love both bands and all the early nwobhm
i thought the same exact thing 7 years ago
Fantastic...loved every minute ..❤
I HEARD THIS BAND GIRL THAT GOT PHIL COLLEN AND PHIL LEWIS IN A BAND CALL GIRL AND THEY SOUNDS VERY GOOD TOGETHER TOO
Always great live.Saw them several times in the early eighties. Thanks for the upload
Lucky sod
Phil Lewis is sooooo cute aaaahhhh 🥺🫶🏻
コレは貴重な映像ですね!
デフ・レパードのフィル・コリンを追って、Girlを想い出したどり着きました
フィリップ・ルイスはなかなかのルックスです
仕方ないけどもう少し画像が良ければなぁ〜
God I Love This !
🇺🇸
this is brilliant.
I still listen to sheer greed to this day
I think Phil was better then, than now with Def. Definitely, more aggressive. (Maybe that’s it). These guys should’ve been bigger.
It would be interesting to see if Joe Elliot dies whether Phil Lewis would be offered the frontman/singer role in Def Leppard.....but I just watched a video of Phil playing in Houston Texas with what remains of LA Guns and he just looked really bored and not into it at all.
I used to look like that singer back then except my hair was lighter. I had so many girlfriends. Miss it!
Me me me me me
I dig it!
I kinda was bummed Phil joined def lep and these guys broke up. Good songs. Am I the only one?
Yep, feel exactly the same
Gerry
テキト~純次参上!(^^ )
This feels like a cross between really early glam metal, and 70s glam rock but, heavier. Maybe a touch of punk.
Muito foda
7:54 is Phil wearing women's shoes? Well i guess the band is called Girl so it would kind make sense.
Stillettos lol
Sounds like a maiden the first song twilight zone
Am i the only who thinks that Phil Lewis looks kinda like Jo Elliot?
Never thought Joe was particularly good looking, Phil Lewis was absolutely beautiful when he was with Girl, and still fit now!
@@sandyhenderson3530 very true.
@@sandyhenderson3530 I meant hair style. In 1983 Joes hair look similar to that of Phil's
@@sandyhenderson3530 Phil just looks like an old woman now.the pretty boys never age well.
@mjh5437 oh yeah haha. I didn't know what I was thinking when I wrote that first comment above 🫥.
Phil is looking so yummy
The base is not Simon Raffy! That's why I play in the corner. Anyway, because it's Lip-sync, the sound is Girl. I was laughed at Philip's act of unshielding Phil Collen's guitar along the way.
Bad timing or ahead of their time proto 80's glam metal for sure and if it was 4 yrs later this band would have been huge and another thing they were part of the nwobhm but only by association not sound in my opinion
Better than leppard
Much better!!
Better then LA GUNS and especially DEFF LEPARD
