Does your garage have any light? The outbuilding I will be using has only a few very high little windows. So it will be really dark in there all day.

For winter dormancy its not critical for light. The building i stored these roses in did not have any windows.

@@SuccessfulGardens1. I bought roses at the end of the growing season to plant next year. I’m going to take your advice. Thank you.

Should I add mulch or manure to the base after I clean out the leaves?

Yes that would be fine to do. You could also do a slow release organic fertilizer.

Great video! I couldn't bring mine in. I see the leaves are soggy because we got unexpected sleet for like a half hour today and it is supposed to be in the 20s until Wednesday. A floribunda. I hope I didn't lose it. It was watered and is 3 years old. Any advice? Zone 9b😢

Oh no! However, you shouldn't have any problems in 9b. Roses should easily tolerate you winters just fine.

Is a carport ok or under the eaves? I don’t have a garage! And when is it time to do this? At what outdoor temperature? I live in 8b. I’m not worried about a ton of snow, but wind and constant rain are issues.

Typically zone 8 is fairly safe. However, there are always the rogue storms. Carports will give protection from snow loads. Roses can tolerate freezing temperatures, it's just when those freezing Temps are down around 15 to 20 degrees that you would need to protect your potted roses.

I'm in zone 8b & your roses should be fine next to the house, under the eaves or in a carport. It's key for the roots/pot not to freeze so if they're in small pots they'll need more protection. It's good to cut them back to 18-24 inches & strip the leaves. Some nice mulch is good, if you get a really nasty freeze you could wrap them in plastic temporarily or burlap for the winter. We just had an early freeze , low 30's, high 20's, for 4 nights; my pots next to the house did fine, so did the ones under plastic. I highly recommend own-root roses b/c they can freeze to the ground & usually come back. Heirloom is my favorite grower but there are others.

What month to bring in pots in zone 8

I would think that in Zone 8 most potted roses would be fine to leave outside. However, if you are concerned for your potted roses, I would think you would want to bring them in Dec, Jan, and into Feb.
