    I must say.. that Thor 1 is one of the coolest lights I've seen ( cosmetic wise ). I have to get one.

    One more use for these lights (LEP): indoors, they illuminate a room quite well, when directed at a white painted ceiling. I sometimes tailstand mine for that purpose.

    Can you do a vid on high-CRI or otherwise better color temp flashlights?
    Bright is fine for blinding people, but I was suprised to see my ATac A1 to be actually useable at much further distances (with COLOR objects) than my A1S. The A1S was 'brighter' but provided less visual information. I returned it and am still looking for a better replacement at any cost. When I borrow my buddies lights (fenix etc) to compare, many of them are blue/green, or just washed out, with only one with a nichicon emitter being nicer to the eyes. Some of use use flashlights for actually identifying things, not just gun target practice at night.

    I have the Neals Gadgets LEP. It’s very useful for long-distance outdoor security work at night. Distance = safety. Strobe will chase away casual trespasser at 300 yards. Also excellent for viewing interior of cars with dark tinted windows. Remains cool to touch. Good battery life with rechargeable 26650 (not included). Very compact and light, easy to carry as secondary light for distance work. Unsuitable for primary light.

    I know that some people prefer concentrated spot like FW1 or W4 have but I seriously cant find any reason for such tight spot that far away, as you not only cant see perfectly what is so far away, but also that brightness make it blinding sometimes if surface is white/glossy. Even that type laser flashlights should be more balanced, and I think that W3 pro do that best as its light diffuse better making spot tad bigger but still bright in the center.
    I wish that those laser flashlight would have small separate focus lens, not much, just to make it wider when you need wider light... because of two lenses and more complicated structure it would probably cost more, but still... it would be nice.
    Also what about durability of those mirrors? I wonder how much abuse it can take before its glue give up... if it give up...

    Buy alternatives to lumintop. I bought a Thor 1 that had manufacturer defects on the tail cap. I contacted their customer service twice and included pictures and a video but they never responded. I then bought one of their lights from Amazon in part to be able to contact lumintop through a different channel. They responded but were no help and told me to fix it myself. Unfortunately with these Chinese companies, once they have your money, they will ignore you. They could have had a lifetime customer if they handled it appropriately, but I won't buy another one of their lights.

    New to flashlights here. What would be the advantage or the desire to have a light that throws a tight beam vs more of a flood/spill?

    • @paddy9658
      @paddy9658 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tighter the beam brighter it is at range and further it reaches, floody beams are for a wide up close illumination. You have to balance depending on your usage. Or just own a lot of lights and pick 🙂

    Hey Matt, I don't think you're doing anything "wrong" during your Lumens-Tests, cause your Light Box is still testing ALL of the lights equally against the same "control" and it's very observable. When you first shined the Thor I and II outside at the shed, I immediately noticed on my monitor (jumping back and forth with my keyboard), that the Thor II was noticeably less bright than the Thor I.

    I have the Thor 1, Thor 2, the unbranded lep, W30 and the Mateminco FW1 and some others. my candela measurments are so much different then yours its hard to believe. I measure all my lights at 10m with a cirtified calabratied light meter. all tests were preformed multiple times even on different days and i get silimar results. to back of these numbers i did a eye visual test out in the real world. My Mateminco FW1 out throws my Vinh modded Spec C Mateminco MT90 plus to my eyes on some trees 500 feet away, and Vinh measured over 3mcd with the his modded Mt90 plus, so i defenatly trust my numbers. after comparing all my lights outside and comparing what i see to my numbers they pretty much line up. your numbers for the bigger leps really seams low especialy the Fw1, unless there is that much variation between samples. 2.1 to 3.6 mcd just seams like to large of a variation. The FW1 is in a different league compared to all my other leps. Visualy outside on some trees 500 feet away it makes all my other leps look weak. such an impressive light.
    My measurements are as follow,
    Thor1- 340kcd
    Sky Lumen compact Lep - 400kcd
    Thor2 - 740kcd
    Acebeam W30 - 1.89mcd
    Maxtoch l2x lep - 2.1mcd
    Unbranded LEP - 1.12mcd
    Mateminco FW1 - 3.6mcd
    Mateminco MT90 modded - 3.2mcd

      @Lumencraft-  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for sharing. I suspect that there is a wide range of output given by a batch of the "same" lasers. LEDs are tightly bin sorted, but with lasers the tolerances may be wider. Also even a slight variation in focus optimization can result in a significant change in CD. I don't doubt that you have an FW1 that is significantly higher. It sounds like you just hit the bin/focus lottery.

    • @alexlittig7927
      @alexlittig7927 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lumencraft- that's exactly what Vinh told me. And not that I think about it I have many lasers that are rated for a certain mw rating and they are all rated the same 445nm 1600mw driven at the same current. Well some are as high as 1950mw and a few are as low as 1500mw in my testing with my lpm. Which is a bigger gap then leds for sure. I was forgetting the light was starting out as direct diode laser.
      I will say the focus on my fw1 sample is thr best I have ever seen in all my leps. It really looks about as tight and focused as you can get.

      i have both, although the k1 i have has the green osram emitter. they're both the same length, the ng lep is way thinner at the head which makes it nicer to carry around. even with the green osram emitter the k1 doesn't have as much throw, although it's way more practical for normal use because it has spill. the strong points for getting the ng lep are it's the longest throwing lep that doesn't have a big flared out head and it looks more like a light sabre than any other light. also it has a thick bezel that sticks out around half an inch, the lens is very well protected from anything touching it compared to most other flashlights

      @@ayem172003 it would cool to have, but I don't think that's enough for me to put it on the priority list just yet. Thank you.

      I have both and both are worth it. The green k1w1 and the skylumen unbranded. I also like the skylumen lep mini. There is no spill on the lep torches. Both have intense hotspot. I know the feeling of I must know. I don’t regret any of my torch purchases. Having a larger collection of lep and led torches. Each impressive in its own way.

    Acebeam seemed to slightly out preform the others with lil mention.. it was my choice when it came out and yes it would be very nice to have a focusable head as the one you demo'd. Prices have skyrocket since then.. glad l bought my Acebeam then at a touch over $200.. it is a fantastic defense light that will simply stop an attacker in their tracks leaving you to control the situation. Honestly l have found no other reason to have such a light, it's useless camping, walks on trails, an inside house light... It does NOTHING well but dissable an attacker and it does it like no other.

      Thats an intersting hypothesis. I think if I has a reasont to attack someone, and they shined a bright light in my face, I would just shoot at and around the light, but good luck with this apparent disabling effect.

    Thanks for showing us this Matt, but I can't for the life of me imagine a use for these tight-beamed lights. Possibly to blind someone at night? I liked the LED a lot better.

      There are lep flashlights that have wider beams. Really good for covering a large area with a good concentration of light

    Actual lumens are always lower than calculated lumens (used by the manufacturer).

    I thought Lumintop was no longer using the bunny 🐰 logo because of legality issues…just ordered the Thor1 from Neals. Can’t wait!

    I must be missing the point of the LEP. I'd much rather have a super bright flashlight.

      There is a set for these lights in the video description. There is also a link to a spreadsheet in the description with a wide range of lights I recommend for different applications.
