Blown Away in Laikipia! Plus Land Cruiser Shakedown Trip

- This is a trip that we took in the first week of December 2022 when the short December rains were on and everywhere was green. It was also the Land Cruiser 80 series Shakedown (first) trip when we got to get a good feel of it.
The Pajero has served us very well. It has taken us to many epic and remote places without a fuss or drama. But it was lacking space for the 5 of us. Also we needed a tougher recovery and towing vehicle for the Mara Nomads family.
This was also about exploring Ol Pejeta and enjoying Jambo Mutara Camp, a fantastic place that's not enough well enough. Ol Pejeta is hands down the second best park in Kenya after Maasai Mara. Nowhere else will you see such wide variety of wildlife.

This is a very good trip. I really waited and wanted you to switch to the Land Cruisers.
Pajeros are not hard core off-roaders like the TLCs.TLCs can take severe beating which is great fun for us.

Will do so! After towing 2 separate cars in Magado and Ghost being towed for 400kms in the Chalbi trip, we realised that we need a more powerful and hardy 4x4 for recovery and towing work. Enter the 80. 👌🏼🤝

When do you shift up in gears? As Rutto mentioned… listen to the engine sound, but even better use the tachometer to shift. Probably a good idea to shift up to the next gear at 2,500 rpm.

Wow, thank you! 🙏🏼😆👊🏼 The tachometer is not working hence why we relied on the sound of the engine to shift up or down. But we are used to that. One day all shall come true for you.

If you want to see many animals you go in through the rongai gate to tambarare via kamok then mutara it maybe long but it's worth

It looks bigger and more comfortable inside. The sunroof is an advantage viewing wildlife alsi
💯 Its bigger. We all fit in! And the sunroof is just 👌🏼, something that the Paj lacks. But most importantly, a better car to tow and recover other vehicles in our convoys.
I have a question but I hope it doesn't seem intrusive, at the camp was there a feeling of expecting tips, say maybe from the attendants or guides? I've been thinking of if that were the case it might add the cost of the expeditions. 2nd, what has been your experiences in tipping during camping?

😆👊🏼 We will build it differently from the Pajero since its the official recovery and towing vehicle for our convoys. So it must be a bit lighter and nimbler. You will see soon. Keep on watching.

Hi guys, me I would advise you keep both of the cars. They are both good off-road vehicles. One thing is the Mitsubishi started it all, it like a part of the family. I would love to the Mitsubishi again out in the bush. Keep up the good job. How much is Jambo Mutara per night or how much is the package.
Well said! 🙏🏼🤝 Both are good. The Pajero is perfect for family trips and long overland trips. While the 80 will be the workhorse for the convoy to help tow and recovery any stuck vehicle since its triple locked and taller, and less loaded. Reach out to Jambo Mutara and say Mara Nomads sent you. Ours was a complimentary trip to show us what they have.
@@TheMaraNomads1920MN aah ok my friend. But you can twin lock the Pajero if you want. I think ironman have the kit to do that. Again you guys don't do hardcore 4wd'ing so the Pajero can do.
