      I taught in schools in Japan for three years and they socialize kids to be very sensitive to the desires and expectations of the group. It’s much harder to put yourself on the line, take a risk and try to start up a relationship - especially a romantic one - in that culture.

    I’m a foreigner raising 2 kids in Japan. Raising kids is not expensive here at all unless you prefer private schools and be wealthy. Medical service is just $2 per visit a doctor + medicine or even having a surgery and so on, until they turn 16. Public schools are good enough and free. Food? How much do kids eat? I believe people more and more prefer not to take the parenting responsibility and enjoy the life 😣

    30-40 years ago someone my age might've been able to have a job with a salary that paid enough to afford my own place. I'm almost 30 with a college degree and almost all my friends who also have degrees are still living at home with their parents. We hate it but consider it better than living on the street. Not to mention it's been proven the world over that women with higher education are putting off marriage longer, if they're bothering to get married at all. The stress of being a full time wife/mother/career woman just doesn't seem worth it, so those of us who manage to find stable work would definitely rather stay single. This seems to be a global issue that isn't unique to just Japan. How can we even think about bringing babies into the world when we're barely getting by ourselves?

    And what do you think is happening in the United States?
    Kids graduating high school in New Jersey could possibly get married and move in to a starter home or small apartment 30 years ago. In 2019
    With home prices ranging from one half to one million dollars where are young people going to move into? The majority of young people have to spend years in college after high school, then they are often saddled with unpayable debt and and are relugated to staying in their parents home with little opportunity to get married and have kids. Viably affordable housing for middle class and lower income working families is rapidly diminishing in all major urban areas of the United States.
    On top of that increasingly higher taxation rates on existing housing properties are driving retired parents out of their homes.
    Lack of affordable housing, rising property taxes, lack of unionized jobs with health and pension benefits, rising student debt, and increasing automation in the workplace is not a recipe for effecting societal conditions conducive to having children.

  • @silvian.4040
    @silvian.4040 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The main reason is because of the economy. It's expensive to have kids in Japan, the cost of living is high and not a great pay to much that living costs.
    Japan forces people to go to vacations and have many holidays, with average of 37 hours per week.
    I think if people started getting paid better, things might change.

    • @prime8nate
      @prime8nate 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      People get paid pretty well in Japan although there’s been a trend towards more part time work recently and it isn’t like the 80s anymore when people were making a ton.
      Nobody is “forced to go on vacations and have holidays”. That’s a pretty weird take. What happens is that people often don’t take holidays in Japan, out of fear they’re letting the company and coworkers down. They spend lots of time, not taking vacation and working late, due to perceived pressure about what others might think of them. There’s a pretty decent amount of public holidays that most people get like “golden week” and around New Years.

    How about it's difficult to raise a family in 20 square meters? Most of Asian populations are concentrated in large cities which means very high living costs and small living spaces.
    I think Taiwan is having a similar problem. I am not sure about S. Korea. Interestingly, Japanese men are increasingly marrying Chinese women and Taiwanese are marrying Vietnamese women. So it seems there is even a backlash against modern women in these countries, although divorce in Taiwan at least favors the man.

    Everybody worries about the support of a relatively large elderly population by a smaller young population. But if the generations roll out and remain small, the old/young demographic will balance itself out. Why do people think that a smaller population is a bad thing? It's a good thing as long as it's world wide. Less competition for land, food, fuel and goods in general. Cost of living goes up when there is so much increased demand. The environment would also benefit greatly from a smaller human burden.

There are many SUPER MOTHERS who work (even full-time) and do all the works alone at home(while they are cooking, Japanese men are enjoying games with smartphones at couch) . I am a Japanese woman who don't have kids and have an European husband...well I can enjoy my private life. I really cannot understand why so many Japanese women are agreeing to work like slaves at home ( by the way, you don't hire cleaning lady or baby- sitters in Japan. even you are rich). I don't think that's much of a sollution though. I mean, economically it is, sure, but still doesn't fix the actual problem that is people not being able to have a social life. They need to think about the people instead of just the economy. It has become all about money and stuff, and people aren't getting happier (much to the contrary), so that's the major issue.. Having family and spending time with them has to become rewarding again, but right now, is not being (why would anyone bring another slave to the world really); bringing people in that will eventually have the same problems is sort of like aproving, for example, assisted murder without seeking out the _reasons_ why people are only seeing an escape for their problems in death (and helping them out to feel like not doing that).
      This is replacing people, instead of helping them out, therefore, treating them as nothing but objets, and we're only seeing this as normal and the obvious solution because we're thinking like company's machines already, and not as individuals from a society.

    A slightly depopulated country probably would appeal to the future citizens. Many wish to retire to the countryside or Kyoto. With less competition, an affordable and peaceful retirement may be an achievable goal for more individuals. Assistance robotics will be improved drastically in the fullness of time.

    Maybe, I think just maybe. The government will do what happened in "Koi to Uso". Because in the anime the population of Japan is really low and the government, would push a partner in the teenagers, basing on all the data the government gets on a certain person, they will find the most suitable partner for both male and female. So It's like forcing marriage since in the anime the birth rate is said to be less than 500,000. 60,000 I think is the birth rate, I forgot. But maybe they can do this. Although they're just going to force their citizens to mate and marry people they might see for the first time in their lives.

    This video is absolutely true I love Japan it's a beautiful country I visit there for months at a time and I can tell you the typical Japanese life doesn't really have time or babies and the drama of relationships, the typical Japanese woman works hard on her job or career and doesn't really have time for a baby,(of course there are exceptions in some women love babies) and guys are the same with work and just not having time for relationship drama or either they want to spend money on technology or things that they like and having a kid means you're not going to have much money for hobbies cuz all the money has to go to the kids needs, but in my personal opinion relationships are overrated I feel like if you're happy by yourself doing your own thing there's nothing wrong with that, but the issue is like they saying the video the population is dwindling and with more and more foreign tourists coming definitely after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics over the years the culture is going to start to change with less Japanese people and more foreigners Japan might start to lose it's identity in about 20 or 30 years

      Yeah, Japan is slowly loosing our traditions in good and in bad ways. And, definitely more in 20~30 years... but it's same as the rest of the world maybe except for North Korea.
      Many of us don't plan on having babies, that's true. I also think I have another things to do than raising kids.
      If you were here as a tourists, you've probably seen the good parts of Japan but if you would live here, it's another story. I mean, not even live, but if you ever get to speak Japanese, you're image of Japan would totally change. OK, explain to you briefly. Over here, pple try to be (or pretend to) be nice and polite to the other pple specially to the westerners but that's only at the surface, in reality, pple got narrow mind-set and not likely to accept any different or/and opposite opinions. If one person says something and the next person agrees on him/her, and then if I ever say something against the previous opinion, the others would call me "strange" and this is how stereotypical Japanese are. Pple don't have capacities to accept the other thoughts, so it's damn difficult to live life here as the way you are. I think the Japanese are pretty mean in this way. Maybe the Koreans got pretty much the similar mind-set with us Japanese but I can say they've got warmer hearts than us.
