you can always make turkey skin chips! take the skin off turkey thighs, breast and whatever you can get well, sprinkle on some salt and leave them in the fridge as long as you can without causing reactions, then just throw them in the air fryer and with something on top of them to make them flat and cook until nice and crisp. i binged all your videos, you're such an entertaining speaker and you definitely should give writing a book a shot a silly question: can you eat sugar? plain white sugar is SO versatile, you can make caramel, honeycomb candy, cover fruit for crispiness, etc
I had no idea this condition existed, so clearly your social media efforts are succeeding. Congratulations on spreading the information so quickly and clearly. What’s really coming across is that it isn’t a static condition, and that one must remain very engaged and positive to keep moving forward. There’s apparently a very strong mental component as well as physical and it’s as easy to go backwards as forwards. It sounds terrifying but you sound amazing. I feel like I need to keep these lessons in mind for my own health struggles. I don’t think we often take into enough consideration how much mental state affects our health. You have no choice because your biological processes are so quick to react. But I should listen and learn. Thanks for being the canary in the coal mine I guess 🤦🏼♀️
You are right on point! There is a huge mental component, and I think that's true for so much of our health. The biggest lesson and skill I've learned is to listen to my body and stop fighting it. 🫶
I've been suspecting that I have MCAS for a few years, so many different reactions and none I can explain. Thank you for the visibility and for the push to go back to the doctors 💖
Just as a suggestion: There are some recipes for crunchy beans out of the oven. Just popp 500 grams of beans onto a baking tray (if you wash them prior to that, make sure they're dry), squeeze half a lime and drizzle it over the beans, together with 3 tablespoons of olive oil, and add salt. Then bake at 200°C (ideally using the oven's grill option) for roughly 15 minutes. I know it's not like real crisps/chips but maybe that would be something to snack on.
You seem to take the condition and how it affects your life very positively which I admire. You are a clear communicator and know how to pace and structure your videos. All the best to you, these videos were very interesting and well made
I’m a few years older (23) and was dx with MCAS about a year ago after years of GI issues and I’m so happy to see your channel. I went from roughly 4-5 safe meals to now eating almost anything since I’ve been on cromolyn but I’ve recently realized that I think I’m still having a lot of reactions and I need to work on being better about tracking and elimination. I’m in LA too and my doctor treating my hEDS and MCAS also has hEDS and MCAS which has really really helped. One of the nicer things about living in LA is that everything is usually labeled really well, there’s a wide variety, and people are a bit more kind about dietary restrictions bc of the health food culture. I always feel like my reactions aren’t bad enough bc I’ve also never had anaphylaxis so it’s nice to hear from someone else who also doesn’t have anaphylaxis.
As a person who doesn't experience reactions to many things, ANY reaction is "bad enough"! Doesn't matter if it's anaphylaxis, itchiness, swelling, headaches, etc. It ALL sucks and I wish you didn't have to deal with it!
man, we know nothing about this. the wiki article is a complete joke. "yeah MCAS exists, we can now identify it by bownmarrow biopsy, treatments are almost non existent, the prognosis is unclear, have a good day." it's so frustrating HOW MANY of these conditions exist. we are actually really bad at medicine still.
It’s hard to conceptualize how it began and how you overcame such a challenging obstacle. Like you started having reactions and doctors diagnosed but from there how did you find the path forward towards safe foods? My brain just jumps to movie drama level panic waking up to a Dr saying you are allergic to every food and then wondering how to even start to try and find food to survive.
So being born near London explains the voice, growing and living in USA explains why your able to access cheap Turkey (you should not go to Australia unless you are planning on eating just white fish and expensive ass Turkey (even then you might be having to buy whole ones, come Christmas time more peices are available here). How do you react to body cleaning stuff? Tooth paste, body wash solid soap, mosturisers etc?
I'm not sure if you can have vinegar, but have you tried pickles? You can also pickle cucumbers in lime. Nothing new, but maybe a fun new way to prepare what you can have now.
It’s always so interesting to watch your videos. You have such a good attitude towards everything as well! I can’t wait for more content / would definitely be interested in reading anything you write!
Is it hard to get enough calories each day? It looks like most of the foods you can eat are quite low-calorie so I guess you need to eat quite a large volume of them? I can't even imagine how many cucumbers it would take to get to 2000 calories! Also, if you find a food you can eat, do you also try closely-related foods or is it still too risky? Like when you discovered limes were safe, did you also try lemons or was it not worth the risk even though they're very similar? I wonder about different varieties of the same food as well like English cucumbers vs Persian cucumbers etc.
Do you have to restrict what hygiene and personal care items you use, like soaps or creams, and even toothpaste? Does any of your close relatives have similar problems with MCAS and is it hereditary?
Usually cocoa is made from fermented beans and it's very high in histamine, I assume it's off limits for her. Honestly, if I couldn't have chocolate anymore, I would cry D:
@@lachouette_et_le_phoque I was talking about cacao though, not cocoa - "cacao in its raw state seems to be okay in terms of histamine" source: histamineintolerancedotnet ❤
@@jennaxhealthMay I ask was it raw cacao, or cocoa? (Or even carab?) Apparently carab & cacao in its raw state is often fine as far as histamines, its cocoa that seems to be the problem for most... You reacted to cacao? ❤
Your accent is genuinely the perfect mix to create the most neutral accent. I can not tell where you're from at all. You sound sort of British but sort of American and even sort of Aussie or Canadian!
So unrelated to the video but it was very surreal seeing your Spotify wrapped because mimi Webb was one of my childhood friends and in my head she’s just Amelia not this huge pop star 🤯
So your immune system has no chill and goes batshit when it sees most foods entering your body. That sounds like a rough disorder to live with, but I love your positive attitude about it all. :)
I’d love to see some of the food experiments you’ve tried to keep things interesting for you (like the caramel) - I imagine I’d be trying some of the weirdest stuff 😂 also, can you eat xanthan gum? If so, it could open up A LOT of recipes and ways of eating your foods. Can be a bit hard to use but once you get the hang of it you can do so much with it! Good luck, thanks for the insight into your condition :)
As an Australian if she was living here I would be wondering how she gets access to Turkey. Would be bloody Expensive as $6.99 Aud 4.83 Usd for on the bone Turkey Maryland that's been defrosted (thankfully no preserves). I have only seen that recently and it might be due to it being closer to Christmas and they are probably doing the Fozen Turkey's for Christmas. Those guys will probably be twice the price whole.
I’m not sure how you react to oils and cornstarch and flour but I make fried zucchini all the time and it’s nice and crunchy like French fries so that might potentially be a route to check out whenever you’re craving those kinds of fried savory treats? 🤔
Since you recently found a 14th food, does that mean you often try things you’ve never seen before & just see what happens? How do you find new foods you can eat? And do you try eating stuff you could eat before just to check if anything’s changed?
Why do some foods affect you but not other 'similar' foods, turkey/chicken or rasberry/blackberry for example? Can you pin point reactions from certain foods to something specific in the chemical make up of them?
@@jennaxhealth Understandable, can be hard to pin point anything when it's health related. It's interesting to hear about though, fingers crossed when you find #15 it's something good :D
This may be a dumb question and I’m sorry if it is. I know you mentioned in a few previous videos that you have a major sweet tooth. Are you unable to have pure cacao? I’m sure you’ve probably already looked to see if you can have any kind of sweet, but I know there are a few brands of dark chocolate out there that have pretty pure ingredients. Or Is it possible you could buy pure cacao and make your own chocolate with any kind of sugar like substitute? Again, I’m so sorry if this is a dumb question or if you answered it in a previous video. I love your channel, keep up the great work on your videos!
