All that talk about the existence of Marvel Comics in the Marvel Universe reminds me of one of my favorite little trivia: Steve Rogers had a part time job doing the art for the Captain America comic.
Marvels sliding time scale is genuinely funny to me. Most of marvel has been around since 1962 and whatever was happening in the real world happened in the comics. It's been nearly 10 years since the recession, 20 years since 9/11, 30 years since the soviet union collapsed internally, 40 years since Reagan, 50 years since watergate and nearly 60 years since the Cuban missile crisis in 62. All of that shit was happening in comics as it was happening in the real world. It's been a crowded last 10 years for them hasn't it
@@Pedro-zu3uq and ironman too. Well punisher's kinda works since with every war there are those groups of vets miss-handled. That's why he is an Iraq vet now.
Yeah, I think Amazing Spider-Man revealed that he just turned 28 a short while ago so its been like 13 years since the start of Spider-Man, F4, X-Men etc.
I always find the Explanation for this s**t even funnier, it's all because of Franklin Richards. As a Younger Boy he loved all the Superheroes (particularly Spiderman) and never wanted them to go away due to Dying of Old Age/Retiring/ect so he unknowingly uses his Powers and Warped Reality (so much that he affected the Time before he was Even Born) so that the Heroes would never Age and Time sort of constantly folds in on it self to keep everything happening in an order but also so no one could become aware of the fact that they once had 30 Years of History take place over 5 Years then later have 50 Years of History take place over 5 Years..
I read somewhere that 2099's costume was actually Black and Red with Blue shading, but artists got it wrong and it just ended up Blue. Looking at the image behind the sofa I can kinda see it was meant to be Black
I was always meant to be black, but due to the colors of the city, it looks blue. Due to everyone thinking that Spider-Man 2099 suit is Blue they just retcon it to be always blue. I think a similar thing happened with Peter Parker's Orginal Spider-Man suit, where it was Red and Black, not Red and Blue.
@@JustSomeMexicanwithaMustachethe main reason behind those changes is because it was common to have blue or purple as an underlying shade color for black fabrics in suits so that they could still show off muscles, but it tended to lead to people believing they were in fact just really dark blue. Not to mention there would be the occasional inking/coloring error during early comics
I remember reading this on an old tablet when I was younger, which also had both Spiderman/Batman crossovers and other late 90s Spiderman stories, wish I kept them😥
Think I got that cross over on my computer as a PDF. I mean id offer you a copy but I doubt you'd wanna receive a random file from some guy on TH-cam lol
27:00 literally that's the premises of the tabletop cyberpunk after the 2030s with Arasaka becoming a benefactor of the west coast and Militech making the "reunified" united states which mostly controls the eastern US
I always assumed that when Miguel witness’s the projection that shows the age of heroes ending and the cataclysm that brings forth the future that we see in 2099, what Miguel is really seeing is the moment when the heroes defeat Onslaught and enter the psyonic energy portal and disappear (seemingly forever) in 1996. And that brief glimpse into the near future and rhe end of the Heroic age via the destruction of Onslaught is what causes this Grandfather’s Paradox that causes Miguel and Peter to rubber band through time and the power surge between Alchemax and Fujikawa enterprises is merely a conduit, nothing more nothing less. It can access this energy wave but it’s not the cause of it.
ok, so i think i have how the 5th dimension thing works. the 4th is time so in order to manipulate it the way we do our three dimensions, one must go one higher to see time as we would see a ball in a room. we are walking in the fourth, so we gotta be in the fifth to see all of time... and i feel like i just wrote a Grant Morrison comment...
Miguel O'Hara is my favorite non Peter Parker Spider-man. Loved reading 2099 as a kid and still love it and own his origin issues are some of my favorites collectors items.
The 2099 concept is so strange. The original run of series in the 90s was fine on its own, but the "Timestorm: 2009-2099" mini-series created a *different* 2099 universe that interacted with the 616 universe.
Is Spider-man 2099's suit black or blue? It's something that always bothered me considering how every character who wore black back then had highlights of blue.
All I know is Peter David knows how to put in the emotions without caring too much about details. Did you read his Maestro series? The last panel. Fuck specifics, Peter David works in feels.
Great episode. Miguel's my third favourite Spidey. I would love it if you guys did Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man by Tom Taylor. Keep up the great work!

That’s an awesome piece of trivia
Not trivia but I love this moment in Cable Deadpool run when Steve is on Nathan’s island and he’s painting and doing public works. It’s pretty cool.
It’s always a good day when we get to hear Sal talk about Spider-Man.
Both good and bad stories combined Lol

50:08 it was at this point with the "ret-con bombs" that I realized this is just a Spider-Man/Deadpool crossover but without the jokes or Wade Wilson
I love Miguel O’Hara and I need more of him
Book does a great job of showing it is not just the powers that make Spider-man, as a mere shift in attitude throws everything for a loop with Miguel.

Hopefully, we can see more Back Issues on Peter David's Spider-Man 2099 run, since I know you guys did a Back Issues for the first story arc
I would love that.
I can't get enough of the Cult of Spider-Man bits :)
I bet the choirs sing the theme song

I assume they include a clause about never trading your marriage to Mephisto.
ComicPOP always does a great shocking job! Love tuning in guys!
Woo! Always glad to see my favorite Spidey Miguel back on the show
I love when I forget it's Wednesday but the boys come through with Back Issues to make it the best day of the week
Miguel is AWESOME!!!! Looking forward to this
Back Issues: the only show that matters. Another homerun, gang. Well done 👏🤘❤
I love Spider-Man meeting Spider-Man 2099 it was really awesome crossover and tons of fun

Spider-Man 2099: I’m sorry Mr. Jameson. But to me, you’ve been dead for a century.

“Miguel o hara knew the party was going to get rough” as someone who goes to those types of parties, he’s not wrong😂
But Sal, I heard the Iron Monger laugh in the theater too! I distinctly remember him laughing!
That makes 3 of us!
I would love to see Sal's reaction to a retcon of Ben Reily being Miguel's grandfather 😂
This is the greatest birthday gift i could have asked for.
Happy belated birthday bruh
Happy birthday fellow nerd!

Hell yeah! Sal talkin' Spidey, is there anything better?
New to this channel, MrSundayMovies sent me here. I really like the vibe and dynamic between the hosts and subscribed.
Thanks Doug!

Ethans face when Spider-man 2211 comes in 😂

Always a good time when the comic pop crew cover Spider-Man 👌🏽
Just finished reading Peter David’s 10 year run on X-factor. Would love to see that on back issues.

Have to be home from work sick today, but lucky for me Back Issues is just what the doctor ordered!
What a spectacular surprise..
2099! My goodness, I remember when I was younger and I first heard of him, I was straight up obsessed, lmfao
The best show on TH-cam!
Rewatching this makes me realize that JM DeMatteis and Peter David are some of the best writers from the 80s-90s whom still write today.
Is anyone gonna mention the Edge of Time crossover game?
The 2099 concept is so strange. The original run of series in the 90s was fine on its own, but the "Timestorm: 2009-2099" mini-series created a *different* 2099 universe that interacted with the 616 universe.
This reminds me of the videogame edge of time which is underrated asf and has christopher daniel barnes and josh keaton vo in it
The last time I was this early Peter had not even been bitten by a radioactive spider
Now I wanna see Iron Man: Evil Laugh cut
To be fair to some of the other 2099 books, Doom 2099 was just 2 issues away from being tied with with Spider-Man
Spidey 2099 is my favorite!! Would love to see more of his crazy tales covered later.
This backissues hits just right. Thank y'all!
Really hoping to see if Sal does Spider-Man Spider's Shadow once it's finished. The banter and reactions from the guys would be amazing.
A 'Futurama' reference! "Whooo". Just one more reason to love this channel.
Nice glad to hear more love for Peter David
Great back issues

Ironic that Spider-Man 2099 was supposed to be this cool vision of future Marvel but now has dated itself to be horrendously 90's.
