    Nice one man, well presented, wonder what material the pipe is that runs through the back of the fireplace, obviously it would have to be a high melting point and be able to withstand being hot then cold without getting brittle....

    Frugal question - would your heat transfer system pull warm air to the bedrooms if you didn't have the fire on? Say, if you'd turned on the heat pump or if your living room got the sun before the bedrooms? Just wondering if you can avoid the cost of a ducted heat pump with a system like yours, even if you haven't lit the fire. Also - is the fresh air damper part of the heat transfer system or the heat pump?

      Hey Brooke, The ducting is set up to move air around as soon as the temperature hits 21c, so even if it warms up from the sun, but from what I understand you can't really draw heat off a single room heatpump, something about the motor having to work too hard.

      Fresh air is part of the ducted system, the heatpump is just a single room highwall, www.mitsubishi-electric.co.nz/heatpump/i/69251B/ecocore-ap-71-high-wall-heat-pump

    Ducted=10 grand
    Hybrid?= $7500 (Heat pump= $3500, Fireplace: $2000, Heat transfer:$2000 )
