day 138 for myself at the moment and honestly, i've never wanted to cut it off. i use to cut my hair every 3-5 weeks and shave constantly. i've come a long way the past 20 weeks too and only being 21 i'm happy with it so far. thank you so much for this series!
Hi dear Zach, , 3-5 weeks is not enough time. You should do it every 2 or 3 months. What you should do for your beard as beard expert Dan C Bearded and George Bruno have said it many times: Don't trim and don't shave your neckline, don't do the 1 or 2 finger Above Adam's apple technique. Just let it grow and do every 2 or 3 months a very slightly trim of the transparency of the bottom of the long beard hairs of your chin. Check out Dan C Bearded video Transparency trim on TH-cam. This will bring back the growth extremely fast, will remove the transparency, and you will have 3 times more volume, mass.
HEyo! thanks! Just did a significant trimming of the beard and mustache so it will pretty much be starting from scratch :-))) BTW Definitely digging Jack's look right now!

5 days ago I hit 8 months of my yeard long journey. It is getting a bit much, I was blessed with great genetics when it comes to facial hair. So it's been manageable but the constant maintenance is getting a bit too much. I've got to plan my day around the beard care, have to get ready an hour earlier than I used to for work and also at night I have to go through my steps to make sure I dont wake up with a crazy beard. One thing I have noticed the product is the worst enemy of the beard for maintaining a neat styled look. The balm makes it unruly, unless I'm chasing it with a brush all day throughout work. This last month I have put down the balm and pretty much all oil. And the feel and the way it lays is so much easier and neater. No greasy face that fuckes up phone screens or eyeglass lenses while hanging them on my shirt. It's been wonderful. Oil and balm is not a needed item. My beard smells better and looks better and it's not greasy. I dont k owning I am gonna make it to 02/21/2019 or not. It's still a long road with many weeks to go.
I'm at week 50, I stupidly trimmed the tash at 3 months due to a cold. It's my 1st beard at the age of 51 (bit fuzzy on my age) and it's been very well behaved. My beard hair is very straight and white and it looks a bit bit ragged at the moment but I hope to have it styled next month. I think I may keep it.
Hi sir, You should do a light trim of the bottom of your chin long beard hair every 2 or 3 months. As beard expert Dan C Bearded and George Bruno have said it many times: Don't trim and don't shave your neckline, don't do the 1 or 2 finger Above Adam's apple technique. Just let it grow and do every 2 or 3 months a very slightly trim of the transparency of the bottom of the long beard hairs of your chin. Check out Dan C Bearded video Transparency trim on TH-cam. Jack I’ve really enjoyed this series. Thanks for helping me with my journey. I’ve growled since February and trimmed 4 times . I tip my hat to you for sticking to your guns . Don’t be a stranger my friend .
In a moment of weakness, I shaved my beard off 8 months in. I started growing it back the next day and have been watching this series of videos for inspiration, lol. Great information here. Although I did set my neckline one month in, there will be no trims until total victory is achieved, whatever that is, lol. Beard on my Dudes!
Can't believe it comes to an end jack..!! Awesome experience.. Hope to meet in real life when I have a huge beard like you have rn and proudly say you were the inspiration behind it.. cheers
Congrats on making it all the way. Not doing a yeard but growing it out for the first time. This game definitely takes patience. Looking forward to your next video.
I've learned patience, yeah, but I learned a very very important thing. I started the yeard almost 2 years ago, because I have lower back problems and figured a beard would be much easier to care for. NOT SO! It's the same amount of work. Maybe even more, depending on how meticulous you want to get with it. With a shave, there's no reason to trust someone else with a blade to your throat. With a shave, you have a choice of every day, every other day, or any schedule you want. With a beard, if you don't maintain it with regular brushes, oils and balms, then your beard will be like steel wool and your facial skin will be dry and itchy. With a beard, you can go without a razor or scissors touching it. However, if are someone who likes to keep their beard a certain shape, then you have to maintain a certain trim schedule (either yourself or at a barber shop). With a shave, I'm done in 5 minutes. With a beard, it takes longer unless you don't mind the homeless look. And with both, if you have back problems with one, then you'll still have the same problems with the other. So, for me, the whole "You're lazy if you grow a beard" myth is a complete bust!
Just as LOST was about the characters; the story was just a great gift wrapping. Such are your vids, Jack. I'm a 2yeard dude, and I watched your vids for advice, etc. However, each Friday, I enjoyed the vids due to your efforts, and such. I enjoyed hanging out with you, my friend. The man makes the beard, not the other way around. I hope all best for you, and yours. Thanks for what you do and who you seem to be.
I have beard hair that I've been growing for a year that varies in length from 1 centimeter to about 8 inches. All growing the same amount of time but just a difference of beard hair maturity I do believe. Basically anything above my jaw line, including the chin grows much slower and is lighter colored. The lighter the color the more immature the hairs are on my beard. That's been my experience over the year's. I'm 36 almost 37 and I have beard hair that is just starting to come in and other hairs that are full bloom even some grays.
I had to shave my 7 months old beard, which i decided to grow by watching you first video. And it hurts my feelings and i feel like it was a 7 months of lost to me. The reason why trimmed was it was a bit curly and really long, i had trimmed it 3 weeks earlier but still it was a curly beast with a great volume, and 2 weeks ago, i had my relatives visited me and one of them insulted me saying that i looked like a terrorist and such things. I just hated this and shaved it and now i hate the situation more. I started growing again and im going for the yeard again but just thinking that there is 363 days more, kind a makes me feel alone and sad. Im 20 years old and a student but i can't overcome this feelings, i kept the moustache and the underlip hair crown thing but idk Jack. I'll miss you, i know you'll be around. But still.
Haha yep I get the same comments about my facial hair, it’s thick, black and curly. But as long as you trim your cheeks up and your neck line who gives a damn!
i had a similar experience in the fact they say that i look like Jesus, because i have long hair and a beard. i also had one commented that i look like a terrorist but i shuddered it off and let it go. i dont give a fuck about what they say about my beard, i never gonna cut it. i'm happy the way it is. actually not realy happy because i have patches and my stache is little too weak to curl it. i feel like its not growing anymore, so i guess, i gonna rock the beard that i have and deal with it. Terminal lenght came fast for me. fun fact, i never realy liked myself without a beard. even when i had long hair and a goatee (without mustache) i felt like i was ugly. when i shaved my goatee off it looked like i was a babyboy again, so babyskinned. i decided to let my beard grow out but this time the full beard. and with long hair and a middle lenght beard, i look like Jesus, but better Jesus than a baby boy with long curly hair. i never gonna cut my hair or beard. i go for the Jesuslook and if they call me Jesus, i now see that as a comment. fuck all the haters, right? if they tell me i look like a terrorist i just ignore what they say. i'm 27 years old and the longest i have a beard, like now, is almost a year and a half.
Great job with the yeard to this point but with the end in sight you should always consider some facial hair just not that huge and untrimmed! You give us great advice and we need you as a beardster.
I did a yeard and really enjoyed it. But, when it was over, I was done. It was time to tame the beard. So, I went back to a number one comb and vary between one and eight.
You are the perfect person to be doing this series. You show that it's not all race cars and rock-n-roll! You can hear the difficulties in your voice. The truth. I'm going into my 3rd month of beard, but I already had a medium length goatee. In my head, its straight up bad-assery. But in the mirror, its hoping that there's still a half eaten chicken sandwich in that dumpster, and I'm going to find it. My biggest challenge now is that my mustache isnt even. I must be chomping on it in my sleep, because one side is much shorter. And the left side has a different wave than the right side. I have a solution for the "eating the mustache while sleeping" problem, but that's an invention I have to keep to myself for now. Might be a big money maker that I could bring to market. 👍
I appreciate the support man! Fortunately I never really dealt with the "eating the mustache while sleeping", (I chalk it up to having a small terminal length 'stache). Maybe if mine ever grows out longer and you release your invention, I can give it a try! - Jack
Looking at it, that mustache is really starting to come in even if it was slow. I'd sure be hesitant to shave it when it's starting to get that close. Good work Jack, loved the series.
Jack, I decided to grow my patchy beard because of your yeard series. I wanted a yeard but I messed up began to trim. Can't wait to see what you do next!
I made it to the 10 month mark... I bumped into the side of it with the clippers when I was shaving my head... But it still sits just above the Adams apple.. But I am doing great with it but I gotta get some product
How do you trim your nose hairs w/o messing up the sytache? Mayeb a dumb question but I've made this mistake a number a times which is whyI always end up giving up.
That is very true brother. As soon as I started taking care of my beard I bought all kinds of good quality products for my hair, face, body and beard of course.
You look very good and healthy and I agree this process has been a big change on you, you seem more confident. I can imagine it will be dramatic change to shave it all, it's been there with you 365 days!
I've actual tried to do this before but the most was 4 months, however I'm going to try again and on the 28th will be the first month so wish me good luck!
Funny you should ask about that, we have something called the Beardsman's Box which has everything you could possibly want for your beard all inside of one awesome box: www.beardbrand.com/collections/grooming-kits/products/tree-ranger-beardsmans-grooming-kit - Jack
@@Beardbrand awesome I'll check that out... I'd keep the yeard... I definitely got attached to mine LMAO.. It becomes a new friend that is with you through everything in the last year LMAO
20 days left in my definition of a Yeard challenge, which to me meant not shaving it off for at least a year. I (and my wife) absolutely love the new look and I will take it to the grave. Great discipline Jack! 🏁🏁🏁 BTW: I couldn’t have accomplished my Yeard without the instruction provided by the Breardbrand Team, Grey Bailey, SB (Houston), et al...
Jack, I would be so stoked to see how your beard would look styled and shaped up before you trimmed it completely off! Im super curious and would be bummed if you chopped it off without giving it a try first. For the fans!
I have been thinkingof making 2019 the year of the beard. Shave on Jan 1 and just let it go. I would probably do a traditional yeard. Curious to see how it would look.
That sounds like a great idea, man! That way it'll be very structured and you'll know exactly how long you've been growing and how long you'll have left. - Jack
nice one jack! im at week 42 right now, looking forward to having a good trim of the tash at the end! its the most irritating thing when eating!!! other than that ive enjoyed it. if i dont oil daily i end up with beard druff!! that stuff is awful, so mt top tip is to oil up every day.
its kinda sad to see your beard go but you gotta do what you like to do. if you dont like the beard, its okay to trim it off. i for one would love to have a beard like you but terminal lenght was so fast for me. i have a medium sized beard and i have some patches, but i'm happy i have a beard. i find myself realy having more confidence with the beard. i do have to say, if i dont use balm or oil, or i dont use conditioner for a week, my beard starts to get seriously itchy and its horrible.
Couldn't go for a full yeard. Didn't need to to reap the benefits of self-discovery. Buckling down though, you will need to brush on regular intervals if you want to maintain the cleaner look. Once you get the hair to co-operate and fall in line, it will get easier to maintain length and volume.
Thank you! I just hope this scar does not ruin what could be a magnificent beard. Only time will tell. Thanks for the reply! I really enjoy the content on this channel.
Congratulations Jack!!! Your beard looks amazing! I wish you would keep it and do something cool with it however I do understand and respect your choice. Cant wait to see what you do next!
I loved this video. I think your beard looks hot. Until your comment at the end, I was going to urge you to keep the beard, just have it shaped. I only grew my beard just once as a young man in my 30’s. I am sorry I only did that the one time. Now that my beard is almost completely white in my 60’s, I would like to have had it for a much longer time with no gray hair in it, whatsoever. I think it’s something for you younger guys to consider. I am not doing a yeard by either of your definitions. However, I am finally eliminating even minor trimming, and I am going to push back my every other month visit to the barber for shaping, so that I can finally grow my beard out longer. Genetics pretty good here, or good enough. I have also had good luck with a beard vitamin.
It's finally coming to an end! I can't believe we're all here now. After this series is over, you might not see me as much on the channel, but I'll be putting in plenty of work behind the camera! - Jack
I've grown a yeard three years in a row now, but thats mainly because im just too lazy to shave it XD i shave it off completely on January 1st and then i just let it grow for 365 days. I get a maintanance trim after about 3 months and then another at 6 months. For me it all boils down to laziness, i dont wanna shave 2-3 times a week. I love taking care of it though with oils and balms.
Beardster Beardcare thanks for asking, it’s going good it’s really out of control, these days. I still haven’t trimmed it yet, I have a little less than 6 months to go. It’s going to get rough soon, dedication is key. Are you also growing one?
dlroto that is awesome bro - are you using any utility balm or Beard Butter in it? That seems to help. Yeah I’m going all out with the Yeard and documenting it all. I’ve just hit the 4 month mark 👍
Beardster Beardcare I’ve only used a balm a few times I do need to find a decent product. I’ve just checked out your vids, you’ve got a new subscriber here. Keep up the good content
dlroto I’ve just started using the Four Vices Utility Balm and it’s awesome. I’m going to test it out on my tattoos today too. Alternatively, there are a lot of other brands you could try to but definitely do it 👍🏻 you can even make your own
best type of people for this beard growing thing is people who dont look in the mirror 20,000 times a day evrything grows better with less attention and the occasional brush
Im 10 weeks in, but i'll not go for the yeard. Im 21 my goattee and jawline are so strong, but my cheeks and sideburns are a little bit patchy. I hope it will fill in with time ;) but im enjoying my time with my beard and thats the most important thing :D

i am doing the yeard challenge and i am 26 weeks along :D
I'm 16 weeks.
Much respect dude. The beard’s looking classier than ever now. Enjoy your shave!
It's ironic that it's starting to look pretty great right at the end of the series.
- Jack
I made it to the 10 month mark... I bumped into the side of it with the clippers when I was shaving my head... But it still sits just above the Adams apple.. But I am doing great with it but I gotta get some product
best of luck as you soon approach the 12 month mark!
Great video and the beard looks awesome Jack, Cheers.
Cheers! Thanks man!
- Jack
Finished my yeard almost 3 months ago. Still trying to figure out what to do with it.
Nice, and hey, congrats! You have the option to go for gold with a "Tweard" (2 year beard) now
- Jack
@@BeardbrandHa, no tweard. Definitely going shorter. Just need to decide on a style.
How do you trim your nose hairs w/o messing up the sytache? Mayeb a dumb question but I've made this mistake a number a times which is whyI always end up giving up.
That is very true brother. As soon as I started taking care of my beard I bought all kinds of good quality products for my hair, face, body and beard of course.
if you trim is it still a yeard?
That depends on which definition you're following. Personally, I think if you've got a trim, you're all good!
- Jack
its like micro cuts only for the split ends not a difference at all
He just said it in this video
NO WAY IT'S BEEN A YEAR ALREADY. Oh man time flies
Jack you already finished the years this week awwww eagerly waiting for the last update...😍😍😍
One more week now!
- Jack
@@Beardbrand no I mean you already shoot finishing the years series this week and you will upload it next week right?
Oh, yes, I'll be filming the last episode where my beard will be shaved off next week. The video of that will come out next Friday.
- Jack
You look very good and healthy and I agree this process has been a big change on you, you seem more confident. I can imagine it will be dramatic change to shave it all, it's been there with you 365 days!
I think this is all silly just grow the Damn thing who gives to shits if u trim shave shit on it who cares just do what ever the hell u want
I'll miss this series
I've actual tried to do this before but the most was 4 months, however I'm going to try again and on the 28th will be the first month so wish me good luck!
Forgot to mention I have beard oil, a brush, and balm to help me get through the awkward phase
a purist yeard is just too much man I like Jack's definition
Can you buy a kit that has everything you need from moustache wax ? And where can I find it...
Funny you should ask about that, we have something called the Beardsman's Box which has everything you could possibly want for your beard all inside of one awesome box: www.beardbrand.com/collections/grooming-kits/products/tree-ranger-beardsmans-grooming-kit
- Jack
@@Beardbrand awesome I'll check that out... I'd keep the yeard... I definitely got attached to mine LMAO.. It becomes a new friend that is with you through everything in the last year LMAO
20 days left in my definition of a Yeard challenge, which to me meant not shaving it off for at least a year. I (and my wife) absolutely love the new look and I will take it to the grave.
Great discipline Jack! 🏁🏁🏁
BTW: I couldn’t have accomplished my Yeard without the instruction provided by the Breardbrand Team, Grey Bailey, SB (Houston), et al...
Excellent! Congratulations on reaching the end of the Yeard Challenge!
From your profile picture, I'd say that's an incredible Yeard.
- Jack
Thanks Jack! It’s been a challenging learning curve indeed.
For the record, I hope you decide to go with just a 3 guard or so trim. 🧔
Jack, I would be so stoked to see how your beard would look styled and shaped up before you trimmed it completely off! Im super curious and would be bummed if you chopped it off without giving it a try first. For the fans!
We'll do something along those lines next episode before the clippers take it all down
- Jack
Thank You, Jack for sharing this Journey and All It’s Discoveries. Peace and Prosperity to You, Jack 🤓🙏❤️
- Jack
7th month in the growing my yeard, after i hit my goal i am thinking of growing a tweard , what do you think Jack?
Man, if you're up to the challenge, I'd say go for it!
- Jack
Another great video, but more importantly... where did you get that coat? I love it!
Congratulations, Jack! Epic beard!
nice one jack! im at week 42 right now, looking forward to having a good trim of the tash at the end! its the most irritating thing when eating!!! other than that ive enjoyed it. if i dont oil daily i end up with beard druff!! that stuff is awful, so mt top tip is to oil up every day.
My definition of a yeard is the same as yours. As long as you don't touch the length it can still be considered a yeard.
Blessed by the Beard Gods
We'll have a costumeparty on new year's eve, I already bought the viking costume , the only thing missing , you guessed it : BEARD GAME ON
Beard on, man! You should be at full Viking status by New Year's Eve
- Jack
Congratulations on the yeard man, I've been following for a while. It's gonna be entertaining watching you shave it off next week. 😂
Awesome beard, Jack! I'll be sorry to see it go.
Thanks man! It'll be bittersweet to part ways but hey, I've got plenty more to come!
- Jack
you are my motivation! and i have duobt! the duobt is how many hairs are falling out in daily! and i know you are the right tell that
It's normal to shed about 30 beard hairs a day.
its kinda sad to see your beard go but you gotta do what you like to do. if you dont like the beard, its okay to trim it off. i for one would love to have a beard like you but terminal lenght was so fast for me. i have a medium sized beard and i have some patches, but i'm happy i have a beard. i find myself realy having more confidence with the beard.
i do have to say, if i dont use balm or oil, or i dont use conditioner for a week, my beard starts to get seriously itchy and its horrible.
Couldn't go for a full yeard. Didn't need to to reap the benefits of self-discovery. Buckling down though, you will need to brush on regular intervals if you want to maintain the cleaner look. Once you get the hair to co-operate and fall in line, it will get easier to maintain length and volume.
Beard looks great, Maintained and full. All Good Things begin and end.
Have you trim your mustache?
One more year!
I have a small scar on the bottom of my chin. It does not grow any hair. I have great facial hair. Will this scar be apparent when my beard grows out?
That spot may remain bald but I can't say for sure. I've had facial hair cover things on my face so your beard covering your scar may happen.
- Jack
Now that my beard is almost completely white in my 60’s, I would like to have had it for a much longer time with no gray hair in it,
whatsoever.
Sounds like you've got a great plan for your beard going forward, Stephen.
I appreciate the kind words!
- Jack
Rock the white beard Stephen, it is a great look. Definitely cut back on those trims if you want that length to come through

Hey man, really impressed with your dedication with this. Really impressive. Do you and make yourself happy, keep up the awesome content
Can't believe its almost a year, bet jack can't wait to shave!
If the years taught me anything it was patience
Cant believe its been a year already. Good job Jack, cant wait to see what direction you go next!
It's finally coming to an end! I can't believe we're all here now.
After this series is over, you might not see me as much on the channel, but I'll be putting in plenty of work behind the camera!
- Jack
1:44 Jack has a stroke
Lol
parabéns pela jornada ! acompanhei desde o começo
I love taking care of it though with oils and balms.
without patience its impossible to grow yeard...and you have to take alot of care of it and every morning you have to give it alot of love.
I couldn't have said it better myself!
- Jack
So close. . .so close. Good for you!!!
Looking Dapper!
i still remember the first week
i tried the yeard and got pretty far, 10 months actually... but sadly i shaved.. TIME TO START AGAIN !!!!!
Did you watch Alex ?
Such a huge achievement. Congratulations. What are your feelings now that you so close to shaving it off? 🤗
Wow I can’t believe it’s been a year already! I have watched every episode since week one...it will be sad to see it come to an end 👍🏻
Final episode airs today at 11AM (eastern time)!
- Jack
Tomorrow will be my fifth month of me growing a yeard.
congrats bro! How is the yeard going so far?
Alternatively, there are a lot of other brands you could try to but definitely do it 👍🏻 you can even make your own
You should ask the barber you find to cut it into 5 or 6 different beard styles
That's the plan!
- Jack
Did you by chance use biotin in your yeard.
I didn't use anything besides beard oil and balm.
- Jack
best type of people for this beard growing thing is people who dont look in the mirror 20,000 times a day evrything grows better with less attention and the occasional brush
Im 10 weeks in, but i'll not go for the yeard. Im 21 my goattee and jawline are so strong, but my cheeks and sideburns are a little bit patchy. I hope it will fill in with time ;) but im enjoying my time with my beard and thats the most important thing :D
Seems like you've got your priorities in order! Beard on, man!
- Jack
