I think Marvin was saying that a lot of things referred to as nonsense are actually just misunderstood. Hawaii Part II is largely nonsensical lyrically, but those weird lyrics all make total sense with the right perspective. Nothing encapsulates this more than Go to Bed from Joe Hawley Joe Hawley. What sounds like sweet nonsense about bedtime is seemingly about hypnosis-induced group suicide.
@@ShenDoodles that’s another way to interpret it. i’m not saying i disagree. we’re probably both right. tally hall in reality is far too complex for one person to truly understand, and i think that’s the point. some is nonsense, some is really dark. there’s truly no way to tell.

In terms of complexity and sheer music theory, TME would take the dub for me personally. The way it combines electronic music with baroque techniques (yes, really) is borderline cathartic. In terms of, y‘know, actually being able to listen to the song normally, I agree that Sea Major is the better choice here.
I like the psychodelic theme of the mind electric because i had a chaotic mind as a kid bc i was very imaginative and was hard to control my flow of thoughts So i can relate with the mashed thoughts the mind electric describes
My two favorites are definitely "Taken for a Ride" and "Never meant to know". I love the way they both sound and how the beat comes in. Also the when the beat switches in "Taken for a Ride" is beautiful. I gotta say though, & isn't really up there on my favorites, at least the main part isn't. I really like the beat switch at the end though, good for drumming.
Good list overall. i just want to say that i will always love “Turn the Lights Off”, mostly because it was the first Tally Hall song I ever heard (in a geometry dash level .-.)
10:58 I alwayd thought the time machine was just a boat, and the narrator has gone insane, due to the electro shock therapy , so he thinks its a time machine, but thats just my interpretation
i think it's about how simon was trapped within his own mind, however he figures out if he thinks about the past(like he is using a time machine), when he and his gf were happy together, and that makes him forget about what happens in murders and the mind electric
Aight I'm gonna go out on a limb, and attempt to defend the lines in Labyrinth you called out lol. So Labyrinth as an entire song, following The Mind Electric, represents a descent into insanity, right? The person involved is lost in a mass of hallucinations and lost in circles of their own thoughts. So in this state of hallucinations, it makes sense that people who were significant in this person's life would repeatedly show up, right? So him talking about his "ex-girl" and "next girl" is a way of showing the scattered thoughts and experiences of this person as their mental state devolves. Just my own interpretation though, and I can certainly understand why you don't like those lines lmao. This was a really fun and well put together video though. Whether I agreed with you takes or not, I can appreciate the reasoning you used for everything. And I think we can both agree that The Mind Electric is a goddamn masterpiece
My thoughts were that it was more of a reflection on all the pointless things we focus on throughout our life, due to how the song references things like a constant fear of failure, girls etc. I think that this is all brought into context when right after in time machine he reflects on all the time he has wasted and wants to live things back again with what he knows now
4:38 Fun fact: there is a song that samples both Hymn for a Scarecrow and Sleepwalk. It's Joe's cover of Since I Don't Have You, although I can't personally can't find which part of HfaS is sampled (it's probably a drum stem, like Go to Bed did with Sacred Beast) the description does say that it's sampled.

imma be fr, spring and a storm is my favorite tally hall song, and my interpretation is about 50x more positive than most people, I think its about finding good in the bad, but still being truthful that bad things do indeed happen, and not every bomb has a silver lining(i know). cudos to who can guess the song reference
18:24 im gonna be honest, i've been a TH fan for years and never realised that this song was abt 9/11 until recently, i only thought it was a mashup type thing of their other songs. it hits different now
For the people saying "be born is a country song"you are wrong. Country is about the sound, but more importantly about the lyrics. These lyrics are no where near country. Also, you would never EVER hear a song like be born on country radio, or the radio in general (I grew up listening to country so I know a lot abt it XD)
Also, I too am pretty sure I heard Greener on the radio long before I knew what TH was, but what is weird is the only radio station I know that openly plays TH is Tree Town sound in Michigan, and I have never set foot there, maybe radio stations sometimes play greener because it’s the least “strange” Tally hall song?
Well, that took an interesting turn. Ah, well I appreciate your efforts in this ranking. You made some great points, and it's always fun to see others' perspective on stuff like this. Also bonus points for the Never Meant to Know appreciation
15:57 this was the second song i had listened(cough cough from the object show Love of the s*n not sin tho I first thought that until I watched it. I recommend watching it if you are a lemon demon or tally hall fan they have many references like one guy said that some place was like a cardboard box) to first being the mind electric by accidentally finding it and falling in love but this song made me start to listen to the songs later learning that one of my most favourite song was by tally hall.
this is very obvious if you have ever just listened to the album in order. imo it's an example of a great song transition, because both intro/outro of the respective songs still work on their own, but together they flow together amazingly. whereas good day into greener is terrible, because the transition is literally just good day ending with the start of greener, making both songs sound extremely weird unless they are played one after another. i also dislike pink floyd songs for this reason, almost all of them have terrible transitions that don't follow this rule, making the only enjoyable experience just listening to the entire album.
im glad to see hymn for a scarecrow get some love after your decision change. i also initially shared the opinion that it overstayed its welcome, but after giving it a few listens, i really enjoy how the song lets you settle into the existential crisis the song brings
I don’t know what magic this video has in it but I was shaking from happiness at one point and crying at another because while watching it. Maybe it’s just because it’s tally hall but what the hell. Thank you for this video, honestly you talking about all these made me smile a lot, thank you. i know this comment is weird as shit, idk what i’m doing
when I discovered tally hall there were like 3 song that reminded so much of my childhood and when I mentions tally hall to my dad he said oh ya ur aunt sent me Marvin marvelous mechanical museum and I played it for u and now it makes sense
I couldn’t find one with time stamps, so gonna try and do them all. (also spoiler warning just in case someone needs it) 1:46 Dream 2:04 13 2:23 Mucka Blucka 2:45 You & Me 3:10 You 3:43 Turn the Lights Off 4:24 Hymn for a Scarecrow 5:00 Labyrinth 5:34 Sacred Beast
Fun fact, Mucka Blucka has been my morning alarm ever since this school year has started. For that reason, it is the worst tally hall song to me. please help.
0:49 you have a great music taste, my favorite bands/artists are AJR, bill wurtz, tally hall, 100 gecs, and drive45 you are a fan of 3/5 of them, and drive45 is very obscure and not many people know about him, so basically 3/4
i used to like AJR and i still think they have some great songs (some of my favorites being deadly underrated),, and then they started releasing just okay singles, then the DJ one just...
Bro for some reason up until now, I always read “Introduction to the snow” as “introduction to the show”, so when you said the title I screamed “WAIT WHAT?!”
two wuv is simple and repetitive but effective. i love the sound of the chorus and its probably my #1 song from the band the trap, greener, the bidding, &, misery fell, turn the lights off, cannibal, sacred beast and ruler of everything are my other favorites in no particular order
I like how literally every single one of my fav songs were the lowest ones on the list 😭 (im saying low due to their numbers not cuz you hate them, given they were in good and great respectively). Great list tho 😎💪
It's funny to me that you didn't like "Turn the Lights Off" much, since it was the only song on Good and Evil that I remembered after my first listen, and was the reason I came back to the album. And still my favorite from it. Buuut I'm not really a Tally Hall fan, just an occasional returning listener. Thanks for all the wonderful perspectives! I'll have plenty to consider when I listen to the three albums again.
this is an incredible ranking. you gave each song an excellent placement. although i may not agree with some of the placements, this is a totally agreeable and acceptable ranking and i’m not mad at all. FINALLY someone agrees that never meant to know is one of the best😭😭. P.S, i think bora was the one singing space station level 7 since i’m pretty sure joe can’t speak japanese.
Great ranking! Even if I don't agree with everything, it's just really interesting to see how other people interpret music. (Also you should maybe put an epilepsy warning for 23:20 )
That trigger warning SHOOK ME TO MY CORE. I was NOT expecting that😞😞 anyways, I adore tally hall. I’ve fixated overly since about the start of this (awful.) year, and the lore honestly brings me to tears. AND WHEN WERE THESE SONGS SO DARK🙁??Anyways this band is my whole life.
my favorite song by tally hall is definitely &. in my head nothing will beat it and i never thought of it being called ampersand until now edit: new favs are two wuv, cannibal, and hymn for a scarecrow. your hymn for a scarecrow ranking is horrendous but overall good ranking
sea major is great, but it feels like it’s attached to a bonus track which for me doesn’t necessarily change where i’d put the song on a list, but still alters my overall view of the track
Murders being so low is a criminal offense and I will stand by that (it’s definitely not because that was the first tally hall song I ever heard and am biased towards everything about it)

imma be fr, spring and a storm is my favorite tally hall song, and my interpretation is about 50x more positive than most people, I think its about finding good in the bad, but still being truthful that bad things do indeed happen, and not every bomb has a silver lining(i know).
cudos to who can guess the song reference
Lemon demon fine reference?🤯🤯🤯 also i love spring and a storm too
@@tavig7410 smart, ain't you, just got back from torturing whatever member of the nsa is looking at my search history by going on deviantart, so yeah.
Either fate of the stars or just a friend OR turn the lights off are my fav songs from tally hall
Also, I too am pretty sure I heard Greener on the radio long before I knew what TH was, but what is weird is the only radio station I know that openly plays TH is Tree Town sound in Michigan, and I have never set foot there, maybe radio stations sometimes play greener because it’s the least “strange” Tally hall song?
it’s got the same melody as Not Perfect by tim minchin if that’s it
@@EurekaXnah I distinctly remember hearing “seconds tick like boulders” and “Telephones make you seem miles away from home” on the radio
I don't think we needed to know that he sang it naked in a trailer on a winter
That lettucing joke is so good
Thank you. My editor was very creative with that
Pretty glad you just came out and said Joe is schizophrenic, especially after it flared up recently
Great video
i never knew variations on a cloud was about 9/11.. wow.
I spent half of the video going (golum voiced)" bUT WHerE IS The BiDDinG?"😂❤
Thank you for this video. You make some amazing points in this and it's so nice to hear your opinion on this.
the contrast of making a video essay about welcome to tally hall and a ben shapiro compilation. gotta love the tally hall fandom.
do you want a banana
Dis banaaana for you
@@Uhnaa look you you too uptight you know
Seriously underrated video
Thank you. Me and my editor put our best work into this video.
Every lemon demon song ranked when
You made me have an existential crisis but also made me see a deeper meaning to all the songs
I miss tally hall
Me too, bro. Me too.
Did you know that Welcome to Tally Hall's outro is connected to Taken For A Ride?
this is very obvious if you have ever just listened to the album in order. imo it's an example of a great song transition, because both intro/outro of the respective songs still work on their own, but together they flow together amazingly. whereas good day into greener is terrible, because the transition is literally just good day ending with the start of greener, making both songs sound extremely weird unless they are played one after another. i also dislike pink floyd songs for this reason, almost all of them have terrible transitions that don't follow this rule, making the only enjoyable experience just listening to the entire album.
im glad to see hymn for a scarecrow get some love after your decision change. i also initially shared the opinion that it overstayed its welcome, but after giving it a few listens, i really enjoy how the song lets you settle into the existential crisis the song brings
I do not respect your placement for hymn for a scarecrow
Neither do I
Same bro
It's my favorite song from G&E (and The Trap)
I might be the weirdest fan. I'm not a huge fan of mind electric or ruler of everything. But Be Born is one of my tops picks lol.
you totally is XD
yeah you're a psychopath
I couldn’t find one with time stamps, so gonna try and do them all.
(also spoiler warning just in case someone needs it)
1:46 Dream
2:04 13
2:23 Mucka Blucka
2:45 You & Me
3:10 You
3:43 Turn the Lights Off
4:24 Hymn for a Scarecrow
5:00 Labyrinth
5:34 Sacred Beast
MAJOR W FOR PUTTING THE MIND ELECTRIC IN TOP THREE (its been my top spotify song for over a month)
I love the legal eagle picture at 10:53 like that's definitely not rob cantor but I thought it was so funny
That intro blew my eardrums
SAME LMAO
im sobbing these ranking are genuinely going to kill me i am losing it
Someone’s probably answered you already but if not Bora confirmed that he sung Space Station Level 7
Nobody answered that yet, so thank you!
Fun fact, Mucka Blucka has been my morning alarm ever since this school year has started. For that reason, it is the worst tally hall song to me. please help.
0:49 you have a great music taste, my favorite bands/artists are AJR, bill wurtz, tally hall, 100 gecs, and drive45
you are a fan of 3/5 of them, and drive45 is very obscure and not many people know about him, so basically 3/4
i used to like AJR and i still think they have some great songs (some of my favorites being deadly underrated),, and then they started releasing just okay singles, then the DJ one just...
Turn the lights off is my favorite tally hall song
how us Haiku not in first place, it is the best song ever written.
BOO 🍅🍅🍅
Tally Hall is such a unique band, and I love it! I wish I could have been to one of the concerts when the band was together.
This video was great!! I want millions to see this.
I love "you & me"
sobbing
I remember being in 5th grade learning about 9/11 and crying watching everything happen
Bro for some reason up until now, I always read “Introduction to the snow” as “introduction to the show”, so when you said the title I screamed “WAIT WHAT?!”
two wuv is simple and repetitive but effective. i love the sound of the chorus and its probably my #1 song from the band
the trap, greener, the bidding, &, misery fell, turn the lights off, cannibal, sacred beast and ruler of everything are my other favorites in no particular order
My favorite is definitely “The Whole World and You”
labyrinth is such a tone shift
I unironically like Introduction to the Snow more than the first minute of Dream Sweet
my favorite song by tally hall is definitely &. in my head nothing will beat it and i never thought of it being called ampersand until now
edit: new favs are two wuv, cannibal, and hymn for a scarecrow. your hymn for a scarecrow ranking is horrendous but overall good ranking
YES YES YES IM SO HAPPY SPRING AND A STORM GOT RANKED SO HIGH ITS SOOO UNDERATED 😭😭😭
Tintin pfp + tally hall = peak
sea major is great, but it feels like it’s attached to a bonus track which for me doesn’t necessarily change where i’d put the song on a list, but still alters my overall view of the track
The audio spacing for the trap segment is perfect 😂
Murders being so low is a criminal offense and I will stand by that (it’s definitely not because that was the first tally hall song I ever heard and am biased towards everything about it)
hey quick question, where did you get such clean instrumentals for Turn The Lights Off and Ruler of Everything?
I agree, where did they get those songs without the lyrics??
Fr wheree
Fate of the stars is a literal eargasm
Feel like i heard greener while i was at the mall in the early 2000's as a kid
variations on a could is the one song i cant, bring myself to listen to, its almost hard, its beautiful, yet so so sad. i cry while hearing it.
