    I denne testen støtte vi på en vesentlig utfordring, som vi endte med å "regne oss rundt". Underveis så vi også at Tang EV har en jevn og fin ladekurve, til tross for at den ikke byr på imponerende makseffekt (110 kW DC).

    This is the BYD Tang EV.
    It is not the largest Chinese electric car in Norway, but it is 4.87 meters long, two meters wide and weighs around 2.5 tons.
    The car can accommodate up to seven people and it can tow a 1.5 tonne trailer.
    The total power is 509 horsepower, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, even though it's not a sportscar.
    The car costs 600,000 kroner for the top spec (which is standard in Norway).
    How good can it really be?
    The suspension comfort (ride quality?) is mostly good, even though the car weighs about 2.5 tonnes.
    A large proportion of the weight is the battery pack, which BYD themselves manufacture.
    They are among the few car manufacturers that also have their own battery factory.
    The best thing about the so-called 'blade' battery is that it should be very safe. It takes a lot to set it on fire.
    The safety aspect of a battery should not be understated.
    But the trip meter which I would like to have and which my colleague Rune talked about at the launch event is still "gone".
    According to the importer, it first disappeared, of all things, in connection with a software update.
    Consequently, it became an unusually interesting exercise to calculate the average power consumption during a regular highway drive.
    The solution was to quickly charge the battery pack from 0 to 100 percent to see how much energy it took.
    It was 89.79 kilowatt hours.
    We then calculate a standard charge and a transfer loss of ten percent.
    This means that you have 80-81 kWh available for driving, compared to the 86.4 kWh advertised.
    As has been said many times before: such a number is of little value if you do not know if it is net or gross.
    Our estimate of 80-81 kWh seems reasonable after the test we have conducted.
    The car has a stated WLTP range of 400 kilometers, which makes it predictable on the road in the weather conditions we've had, at 20 degrees with nice late summer weather.
    Using a long fast charging session which charged the battery from 0 to 100 percent (even though the car thought there was 1 percent left) we drove the car until flat and we received confirmation that there no battery charge left.
    It indicated that there were 5 remaining kilometers and we probably had that, but hardly more.
    With the help of a little math we can calculate the average power consumption.
    We should assume that manufacturers are careful when stating power consumption.
    After all, that is the key specification that let's you know how much battery capacity your car has.
    That is why we have told manufacturers for years that the consumer must know exactly that.
    So of course the fast charge test itself was interesting.
    Both the importer and manufacturer say that the theoretical maximum power for fast and lighting charging is 100 kilowatt.
    It's not particularly impressive in itself, but we got a nice and smooth charging curve up to about 60 percent.
    It charged at about 102 kW from 5-60 percent.
    After that the charging speed decreased somewhat.
    It averaged 92 kW when charging from 0-80 percent.
    In other works: a nice and smooth charging curve but not all the way to 100%.
    There is a lot of active safety equiptment in addition to other features.
    Eight-way adjustable seats, adjustable headrests and an electrically adjustable steering wheel, which is great.
    Level 2 self-driving, which means that it steers itself according to road markings on motorways and country roads.
    There is adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane change warning, collision warning, parking camera, front & rear sensors, traffic sign recognition and automatic emergency braking.
    We don't know much about the level of safety in a collision since the car has not been crash-tested at EuroNCAP to get a European safety rating.
    As you know, the maximum rating is five stars.
    We simply lack information about how good the car is compared to competitors who have received their five stars.
    The cabin is quiet. This contributes positively to the good driving comfort the car has to offer through good seats with side support and good adjustment options including lumbar spine and knees.
    The car costs in practice the same as a well-equipped Tesla Model Y Long Range in today's market.
    This is a seven-seater. There are of course adjustable seats. 60/40.
    On this side, but not the other, you can adjust the seat back.
    There is plenty of space in the rear seats. You can put the seat well forward.
    And you have completely flat floors, ventilation, but no climate adjustment.
    There are two USB ports, pockets here, a center console with cup holders and a small spot for a mobile phone, for example.
    There are two Isofix points.
    There's a huge sunroof.
    Now that we've seen the space inside the car, let's take a closer look at what it looks like with child seats.
    We see that the distance to the rear-facing seat is good, with the front seat in a position for a person who is 180-190cm tall.
    In other words, there is plenty of space not only for passengers, but also for child seats.
    And it's even easy to get children in and out of the car.
    The rest of the calculations and analysis come as usual on electric cars, as you are used to.

      Could you please explain about suspension ? You had in brackets ( ride quality ) ? I’m very interested in buying a Tang when they come to Australia but Suspension & Steering worries me ?

      The suspension is standard, no air suspension like you will find on some premium cars.

    I really like the look of the Tang EV and like seeing it in real world conditions. Shame l cannot apply English subtitles however video whilst driving looks great

    Har selv prøvd Tang og JO, den har faktisk tilt-justering på andre siden av baksetet også. Dog en annen hendel. Tror hendelen på høyre side er mer fremtredende fordi det er den som er ment å brukes til innstigning til 3. seterad.

    Er det en test av bilen eller batteriet. Så mye kan et menneske snakke om batteriet og i tillegg få det hele å bli så kjedelig

      Tang er nært, men ikke helt en arvtaker til min S-max, og egentlig ønsker jeg meg noe som kommer så nært en helelektris Chrysler Pasifica som mulig.

      Takk for dundrende tilbakemelding! I denne settingen var faktisk batteri interessant å utforske, men det er bare å beklage at det ikke falt i smak. Tullprat er det dog ikke.
