1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop at Ellingson Motorcars in Rogers, MN

- The 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable was quite an engineering feat for Ford back in the late 50s, with multiple electric motors, relays, solenoids, and more needed to retract the iconic hideaway hardtop. The white retractable hardtop on this particular '58 Ford is in excellent shape and goes up and down with ease, with the simple push of a button. The 1958 Fords also underwent a significant redesign from the 1957 models, with futuristic looking honeycomb grilles, simulated air scoops on the hood, and perhaps most notable, dual headlights. This particular 1958 Fairlane 500 Skyliner was manufactured on November 27, 1957 in Ford's Dearborn, Michigan manufacturing plant. Under the hood of this 1958 Fairlane 500 Skyliner is a 332 Cubic Inch V8 Engine with a Single 4 Barrel Carburetor, both of which are correct for this particular G-Code car. Dual exhaust gives this '58 Ford a nice throaty sound. Anybody can drive this classic '58 Ford because it is correctly equipped with a Ford-O-Matic 2 Speed Automatic transmission. This Fairlane 500 Retractable also features the very desirable driving option of Power Steering which makes turning much easier and was a $69 option back when this car was ordered new from the factory. This Ford Skyliner has been refinished in its correct Silverstone Green exterior paint which remains in very good condition. The chrome, brightwork, and exterior trim on this 1958 Skyliner are all in great shape and show well. A rear-mounted continental kit adds to 50s nostalgia look on this '58 Skyliner as well. This Ford Retractable sits on 4 wide whitewall bias-ply tires with full wheelcovers, finishing the exterior look of the car. The Green Sof-Textured Vinyl with Green Box Stripe Cloth Bench Seat Interior is correct for the car and is in wonderful shape. The dash and steering wheel are color-matched to the look of the car and are in nice stock condition. The "trunk" compartment is also in nice shape, having been recently detailed.

Awesome, between '57 and '59 I have always thought the '58 was the best of the retractable,,not sure why? Maybe the rear taillights just catch my attention,,just one of those cars that look awesome from the back, thanks so much for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!

My Dad had a 1958 Ford Station Wagon. By 1964 the rear quarter panels had completely rusted through. Probably one of the reasons they didn’t last.

Diving platform Continental Kit ruins the looks! Not a fan of the green but have to say it’s different.
I agree. Those "glued-on" kits look cheesy. But I love the green. When I was a kid, we had a two-tone blue Custom 300.
These cars are way too shiny. I never saw one that shiny even on the showroom floor
