I'm using clementine on windows 10 as my default player, i like those extra features. i don't think it's bloated i think the player has all necessary features
Since I found this player using linux ubuntu, I've yet to come across another with the as much but not too much features to switch. If you like to stream only music, it has thousands of radio stations, a visualizer feature, equalizer with pre-amp, and simple ui. The only thing is they haven't updated since 2016.
The Ubuntu maintainers have temporary disabled this feature. However, the newest version of Clementine should have it enabled. I provide a link below to the newest version of Clementine below. I hope this fixes your issue. If you aren't experiencing any problems with Clementine or your default music player then I wouldn't switch to Strawberry. However, a lot of people like the appearance of Strawberry and it receives updates more often compared to Clementine. Also some people claim that Strawberry is less bloated compared to Clementine, but I don't see the extra features in Clementine as bloated features. Take a look at the Strawberry GitHub webpage. They do an excellent job comparing Strawberry to Clementine. Strawberry: Differences from Clementine github.com/strawberrymusicplayer/strawberry/wiki/Differences-from-Clementine
Adding songs to your library does not work, it keeps getting permission denied error when you try to add folders on partitions other than the music folder on the Linux system partition.
Clementine has the ability to change the tags of the songs on your computer, which means Clementine should be able to read and/or write to your music files. It appears the songs on your Linux partitions doesn't allow Clementine permission to write to your music files, so it gives you the permission denied error message. You can fix that by using the chmod command and assign all your music files on your Linux partition to be able to read and write for the three groups of user, group, and other. I have two links below to help you understand how to use the chmod command to change file permissions. The first link explains file permissions in Linux and the second link explains the syntax of the chmod command. -Good luck! I don't have an iPod, so I can't say for sure; however, the newest version of Clementine list one of its features: "Copy music to your iPod, iPhone, MTP or mass-storage USB player." The newest version of Strawberry music player also claims it can copy your music to your iPod and iPhone. I hope one of these works for you.
Clementine claims it supports uncompressed, lossless, and lossy audio formats. However, it has been a while since has been updated. However, Strawberry (a fork of Clementine) supports WAV, FLAC, WavPack, Ogg Vorbis, Speex, MPC, TrueAudio, AIFF, MP4, MP3, ASF and Monkey's Audio. It was updated on March 24, 2022.
