    It's a music server that is extensible with plugins and therefore lets you stream music from whatever provider you want.
    The plugin support is really good (beautifuls graphical frontends like Iris, streaming adapters to soundcloud, spotify, youtube, radio stations, local media, etc)
    It can also act as a mpd server and therefore also support all the existing mpd clients like mpc etc.
    It's honestly everything you would ever need for streaming audio.

      The idea sounds lovely on paper but unless you're the type of person that listen to a handful of songs or album it isn't feasible. I consume way too much music for me to pay and support every single artist I listen too. I wouldn't mind paying $20-30 a month to have a subscription service that actually pays artists fairly, but those services are few and far between.

    • @kenhensch3996
      @kenhensch3996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spotify pays musicians at most $.003 per stream and it's often only a fraction of that number due to record labels taking a huge cut. An artist will make far more if you buy a single Tshirt or see a show than if you spend years streaming them on Spotify.

    "Why does vscode/atom need to be an electron app"
    Because they're targeting developers on all platforms, and there's not a lot of decent ways to make and then support something cross-platform without tripling the effort. I don't like electron and avoid it myself, but it's not hard to see why it's needed if you take a moment to think.

      There are obviously many ways to target all three/four operating systems without tripling the efforts and mutialising many pieces of code, it's of course one of the reason but electron also happened to bring web development skills into desktop which is handy.
      That doesn't in any way means that there are no other ways to avoid tripling efforts, it doesn't take too much to understand that. We aren't even speaking about the tremendous funds Ms has for development. They've certainly spent much money optimizing Vscode to run decently fast than it would have taken to adopt the sublime text's or many other editors/IDEs way.

    Can you please teach how to install this?? Accessing github looks like a programmer thing - lots of complicated files, and i don't have any idea about what file i must donwnload. I want the version that allows to download music without errors. Can you link this file, please? I'm not a advanced user or programmer :(

    Is there an audio player with audio control {for podcast and audiobook listening} ? So far I've been binding audio files to mpv but I can't get emacs to use it for that

      It takes some setup, but you can use mpd, mpc, and ncmcpp. Mpd is the daemon actually playing the music in the background, mpc is the client that controls the daemon, and ncmcpp is a curses interface for mpc. You can also make keybinds to control mpc directly

    The Downloads is borked on flatpak probably because of permissions, if you use flatseal you may be able to correct that.

    The streaming services are doing so via HTTPS / TLS. I honestly don't believe they can stop Nuclear nor any other scraping grabber. If you can hit the service with curl then it can be scraped with JavaScript / Python, etc. So streaming / downloading is still going to be entirely possible. Unless they write Apps for all the major platforms and go with a proprietary streaming protocol with a custom secure API. They really can't stop it.
