In the 90s I met him in a bike shop in Melbourne Australia; he was asking after greenspeed. A local recumbent builder. The next day I drove him out to green speed in the suburbs and he got fit up and ordered one. A great Conversation during the drive as we were both bike nutters but also graphic designers
Also Arnold Schwarzenegger loves cycling. Last year, he was spotted cycling every day in the morning here in Toronto, Canada, while he was in town shooting a movie.
You beat me to it. He could have bundled it with Shaq since it's another basketball player. Jordan was pretty avid as well from what I understand. Conan O'Brien has talked about it a lot too and his recent podcasts.
Zdeno Chára - former Captain of the Boston Bruins, had a long career in the NHL, known for his work ethic and large size. He used cycling as cross training for hockey, and in retirement has kept up with endurance sports, has run several marathons, and has recently completed a half ironman.
Tim Commeford, Rage Against the Machine's bassist, would definitely be on my list. He's into mountain and road, and I swear (though I can't prove it even after a Google search) that I saw a photo of him bunny-hopping some fans outside a show.
Two Celebrities come to mind: 1) Kraftwerk. There song "Tour de France" is a great spin class warm up. The recording schedule was build around TdF stages. Some think their career got de-railed from their addiction to watching stages on tv or driving to France to watch in person. 2) Barry Bonds. After BB's retirement from baseball, he started looking for ways to loose some weight and settled on road cycling. He got incredibly fit training on the roads/climbs of NorCal (including Mt. Tamalpais). Bonds was seen at several Tour of California stages and raced several Gran Fondos.
thank you for these additions. especially Kraftwerk. have loved Tour de France record for many years, and never knew that they actually liked cycling. on a different note, I just can't understand why so many people are spelling the word 'Lose' with two 'O's, as in 'Loose'? Its a bit mindboggling to me. Not trying to be offensive, but I just don't understand it.
lol. I didn’t see your post when I put mine up. He brought his bike and I believe pulled a century ride when they came to the US for their first radio station “tour”.
I love Sammy, Love the albums they did with Sammy, people get all bent outta shape about the topic but He's a really good dude, an ambassador for biking and a great singer :)
You should also add Reggie Miller to your list, the former Indiana Pacers All Star,is definitely an avid cyclist and someone who also loves to race. Then there is Bill Walton another famous NBA player, who also owns many custom bikes.
Great list! I would add Tim Commerford(RATM) shredding MTB, Slash(Guns&roses) know for being BMX enthusiast and Orlando Bloom who purchased beautiful custom Festka while filming in Prague

Bobby Weir! Gary Fisher lived with the Grateful Dead for a time at Haight Ashbury and helped bobby fall in love with cycling. He even got some infamous magazine covers.
Its no surprise that Tom Pidcock loves bikes but did you know he was asked at a cyclocross end of season dinner, if you could only ride one bike for the rest of your life what would it be? Perhaps a road bike, a cyclocross bike or a gravel bike? Nope, his answer was a downhill mountain bike! Legend.
Lance was doing the same thing that everyone else was doing. Many of Robin Williams movies had him riding a bike somewhere in the movie which was cool.
The bikes he had hanging up in his apartment were Michael Richards. In the later years anyway. He rode a Klein Rascal. I read the article in a bike magazine years ago. He was featured on the cover and had 3 pages about him.
I 100% AGREE WITH SAMMY!!! I knew nothing about bicycles (other than being a kid in one), until I decided to do a cross country ride with my then 17 year old. Because of the lack of knowledge, I went and worked at my LBS to learn all I could so I could fix anything that went wrong for us. I quickly learned THAT I WILL NEVER OWN ANYTHING SPECIALIZED!!!!!!! They are nothing BUT design thiefs!!!
Thanks big time for the Sammy Hagar/Specialized story. Another arrow in my quiver of why I hate Specialized stories. I keep thinking I’m being harsh with no real reason but about that time I have to do a roadside flat on a Roval wheel for someone and am back to spitting nails again. Big red S my big red A$$.
Nice little video. I will let your audience know from pretty first hand knowledge…..nearly every professional cyclist during that era and others had a cheat in their bag. Many amateurs also. Lance was hunted down because he was at the top and they felt it would send the clearest message. Was it right? No. But god we loved it while it lasted, huh?
Didn't know a couple of these "celebrities" and some of the other ones only dabble or dabbled in bikes. Shaq??? He just owns a few bikes, but I don't know if he is considered a "biker". How about some true bikers? Emmit Smith, Reggie Miller, Jimmie Johnson, Brett Favre, etc. These people actually get on a bike and pound on a regular basis.
