Pre-show announcement: "If you have any loud crinkly snack you need to open, do so whenever you'd like. The score will drown you out" This production rules!
this dude is the god among all baritones. his belting range is already so high and his distorted mixed voice is just so punchy that it sounds like an extension of his belting. literally impeccable
Probably the best baritone range I’ve seen, being able to sing a role that is notoriously difficult for tenors with so much consistent power is INSANE. I know he opts down at some points but can you blame him lmao
Josh Young’s technique is crazy! I have no clue how he places those high As in Heaven on their Minds with that baritone resonance. However I would have liked to see the roles flipped and Nolan take Judas out of curiosity. I think they would both also sound amazing in the opposite parts.
@@justinlamphere2950No my friend. He is using mixed voice. For the super high notes, like the ones Jesus does in Gethsemane, the G5 (if i remember correctly), most use a heady mixed voice or a masked placed head voice. You have tutorials to learn those techniques. All the best to you!
Oh I am so happy to see this up again! I adore this production! Downloaded so fast so I could preserve it. Love the Subtitles as well. THANK YOU!! The one you didn’t get at 1:15:21: “what is truth? *Not easy to define*, We both have truths Are yours the same as mine?” it’s my favorite line of the whole show.
Really bizarre to have just seen Paul Alexander Nolan as Hugh Dorsey in the current revival of Parade (he is excellent in it, btw) while totally forgetting that he played Jesus in this production.
This video inspired this poem I wrote: I hear them weeping, from where I stand. This must be the door to the promised land. Three years, and for what? That false prophet, more man than god? I've saved the people, the fervent crowds, yet the Earth will split and I'll be devoured. Ha! Thirty silver, a price for a life. It is over, finished and done. Should I take my money and run? If he was who he said… well, I'm as good as dead. I see the loop, the rope ahead. Was it right? Could I be wrong? Will poets sing my song? Do they know it was for them? Will my legacy sink rather than swim? You've murdered me! Killed me as sure as I have you! I've been left in the dust, and yet they praise you! Why does history decide the victory wasn't for me? You are nothing more than a fraud! You are no god! I once bent my knee, but now I see! From the tree… and now I'm free.
I really liked this production. Yeah at times it was really glitzy, but it captured the spirit of the story. I also really liked how they increased Mary’s presence in the story. Unfortunately, this flopped and proved once and for all that JCS is just not meant for Broadway. It was a hit in the UK and in various tours, but it was never successful in NYC going back to the original production that limped along for 18 months.
The singers and the melodies are really cool. Sadly the content of the lyrics is complete garbage. This is not even close to what the earliest Christians believe
It needs Barney the dinosaur Blythe Baxter and the littlest pet shop pets 2012 gotcha grabmore kidnapping plot from tiny toon adventures, Telly monster and the gang from Sesame Street, & horris Morris and Boris from Timothy goes to school they’re Doris’s brothers
This production no longer exists. Everyone who worked on this show is doing something else now. No one is losing money over this. Because of the "pirate" who recorded this, these actors' performances have been preserved and can be enjoyed by generations to come instead of being forgotten to time.
You know most people can't afford broadway ticket prices, right? Some people can't even afford to fly in to NYC to see a show. That and this specific production has been closed since July of 2012, I think the people who worked hard on it are working on other shows right now.
@@swanben11 So maddening that they didn't professionally record this production. How is that even possible? Still, thank God this recording exists. My favorite version of all.
this probably has one of my favorite versions of the kiss. judas saying the line about everyone else being asleep and jesus pulling him in to say the bit about betraying him is SOOOOO OOF

first time every hearing josh young's voice, insane i feel blessed

That’s what I’m trying to learn as a baritone. I think the technique is that he’s rounding his vowels and opening more room in his mouth

very happy to see this boot on youtube :> the vocals in this production are my fave
Same here!
Right?? It’s so underratedd
All singers on this cast are TERRIFIC. Special shoutout to Caiphas for that gorgeous voice.
I absolutely adore Josh Young as Judas
Man is perfect

My absolute favorite version of this musical. This is the way it should be done.
This isn't my favorite cast, or even production really, but wow! Josh Young is amazing as Judas!
The dropping of Judas’s body made me giggle a little bit
Looove this cast. Josh is an angel really, but also props for guys who played Peter, Simon and Mary, they rocked
Baritone Judas gives me confidence
Best production.
I think Josh sees the camera at 3:53
he just looks exactly up at the camera lmfao

This was a very important lesson
This may be the most lifeless performance of Jesus I have ever seen
to be fair he is playing a dead man walking
This video inspired this poem I wrote:
I hear them weeping,
from where I stand.
This must be the door to the promised land.
Three years,
and for what?
That false prophet,
more man than god?
I've saved the people,
the fervent crowds,
yet the Earth will split
and I'll be devoured.
Ha!
Thirty silver,
a price for a life.
It is over,
finished and done.
Should I take my money and run?
If he was who he said…
well, I'm as good as dead.
I see the loop,
the rope ahead.
Was it right?
Could I be wrong?
Will poets sing my song?
Do they know it was for them?
Will my legacy sink rather than swim?
You've murdered me!
Killed me as sure as I have you!
I've been left in the dust,
and yet they praise you!
Why does history
decide the victory
wasn't for me?
You are nothing more than a fraud!
You are no god!
I once bent my knee,
but now I see!
From the tree…
and now I'm free.
You are an INCREDIBLE writer!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Who’s playing Mary M?
chilina kennedy
nice
Do you know who played Jesus and Judas?
Paul Alexander Nolan & Josh Young :)
we were cheated with that kiss
is this the one with tim michin?
You would be looking for the 2012 Arena Tour production, not the 2012 Broadway
@@tannertomak9577 thanks
no. thats the 2012 arena tour
mary comforting peter…havent seen it anywhere. still dont like this production
I will never understand why they pushed this Judas so hard for the Tony Awards when the guy playing Jesus was clearly the standout.

You may not have recorded it, but go ahead and defend sharing a cheap pirate copy of people who worked hard to put on a good show?
There is no professional recording of this brilliant cast. If there were, we'd be watching it.
