I'm impressed with your ability to design, build, document, teach, and share such a thing. This is coming from someone who doesn't have the tools or knowledge, but is way into the hobby. Thank you!
Welcome back! It’s awesome to see a new video from you after all this time. Your work has been truly missed, it’s so inspiring for us DIYers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and creativity with us again! BTW, I love Neil Blanchard designs.
Good to see you back my friend! Interesting build this time! I might copy this one. Good luck with moving and creating your new working space. Can’t wait for updates.
You earned a new subsriber. Amazing videos! I love your content. I am a beginner in speaker building, and your channel after hundreds of hours of watching videos, is finally the one I was looking for the whole time! You explain everything clearly as you share your know-hows, and you also explain all the "background processes", that most videos just don't have. I am now all in to start my own projects! You are a big motivation to myself! Thank you for your hard work on the projects and videos, superman!
I'm really glad to see you back with interesting content. I think we were all worrying for you but it seems like all is well on your side. We missed the sun you bring here in Eastern Canada. Let's hope your new installations will serve you even better. Best wishes for you and your dear ones for the year to come!
Great work as usual. Should be really interesting to see how the rest of this series goes. Also, great to have you back, looking forward to the next one!
Hello, really glad to see you back. I really enjoy your Videos. As a german, I really appreciate your are using metric. Wish you all the best in your new house. Frank
So glad to see you back. Missed you. Was actually going to message you to see if you were alright. Glad to see another project. Hope you can sell some of your previous stock profitably to make room for more speaker projects.
Beautiful build, I built basically the same speakers for my daughters 24th birthday last year but I rounded the edges and gave them a high gloss paintjob in candy purple and added tweeters and filters to tune out the low end a bit.
@@sonnoradesign Imagine six layers of paint with sanding and polishing in between each layer and then three layers of clear coat with sanding and polishing between each layer. All in all basically the same speaker you ended up with but with a tweeter and a high pass filter for everything above 2500hz but with a lot more elbow grease for the finishing job., what we do for our children...
On an other channel there was a project done with the little brother of your fast 8, the "fast 6". That guy, called "I am Mad" mentioned, thet the burn-in time of these drivers wil take one month permanent wobbling, and he was very serious about it. The Fast 6 has DIY friendly TSP's, Qts 0.47 and 93dB/2.83V 8Ohm. The Freq-Rsp is reasonable linear, just eleveting towards the higher end. So in case your project not sounding like it should, burn'm in. Nice work and thank you for sharing.
New Sonnora Designs video??? Today IS the best day ever. Great to see you back. I love your videos and the positive vibes! Best build content for sure. Best of luck to you my man in 2025
I'm going to love this series. My next build is going to be with the Tang Band W8-2145. I've seen vids of their more expensive driver (W8-1808) but never that one. Even though that driver is not on your list I'm excited to see the possibilities for these full range 8 in drivers. Most all of the 8 in. full range I've seen have similar volumes needed so i can probably adjust one of your ideas using a custom filter.
Love your videos and build quality. Very niche, but my niches as well. I built these same speakers based off the Lii Audio plans on their website. I also found them to be very treble focused and lacking in the bass. Luckily have some eq ability and an excellent subwoofer. That said, I change my speakers and cabinets frequently based off the music and amp choice. I found these speakers to be exceptional for vocal and jazz. Anything else sounds lacking. Also for reference I built a larger transmission line speaker cabinet with polyfill adjustability and have been swapping out the following 8in speakers: tang band, lii, fostex, and the audio nirvana. I can hands down say that the Fostex have the best clarity and the tang band sound the best all around in my listening space. I wish this video with all the speakers and cabinets came out last year when I was doing all this building to help for reference.
Just when I thought that you weren't coming back, I have been looking at the Mello David beriluim tweeters. They are cheap but idk ? Good to see you back!
Nice to watch this build. I like that you use 8’s. Wish to have seen you use a Purifi woofer. But perhaps not what you had on the menu. Thanks for a build video that shows what it truly takes to do things well and correct. One needs a workshop with the necessary power tools to make the build come out the way it did. The screws for the driver? I guess that would be enough. I thought about wetting the holes with water and then using urethane glue for penetration into the surrounding wood. Then re drill and set the screws. Just a thought. You could build my cabinets any time sir.
Get a good 5-6" FR driver and mount it open, on top of the box and a strong woofer in the box (with a 5.6 mh inductor on the woofer). You need a sensitive woofer to keep up with the FR. Use a filter on the open FR driver if you like, but it will work surprisingly well without one. For trial, mount the FR driver on top of the box with a heap of Blue Tack (easy) and tilt the open driver back by about 20 degrees. Sounds come from nowhere, you might hear people talking in your room, momentarily thinkng it's somebody in the room, but it's from the speakers. This happens to me occasionally. I heard a low flying jet over our house and I thought it was real and I even looked out the window, it was the speakers, fooling me even when like a meter from them (looking out the window). 😂 My friend was fumbling with his phone and couldn't get it to stop beeping, till he realised it was the speakers (3 meters away). This sort of deception happens cos the speakers are point source and dipole, a deadly combination for imaging on steroids. 🎉
My favourite home built speakers consist of an open 10" coaxial "PA" driver on top of the box and a fat 10" woofer in the box. With cutouts on the 10" PA driver to make it breathe and make it less SHOUTY. 😂 It's dipole and point source (a deadly combination for imaging) with tons of punchy bass from the woofer. Sounds come from nowhere! 🎉 I also have a 5" open horn (like an acoustic lens) on the 10" open coaxial driver (and a 1" air gap between the driver and horn). I like the sound more with them on (improving imaging) but not louder, just sounds a bit different. The open horns are made of wood and they look good too, better than the stark open driver. 😂 I also build speakers with an open FR plus woofer. 🎉
It's very interesting what will happen) I built a TQWT with SB acoustics. It turned out great. Especially if you take into account the cost of the entire project)) For $250 in total value, they'll win anything up to at least $500. And in some cases and music genres, it is even better than speakers more expensive than 1000 dollars
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Pleasantly surprised by more great content I have a few 8 inch full range drivers I have a couple Mark Audio 12Ps $300 pair as you stated Tang Bands at $300 per pair And Visatons at $80 per pair My ultimate goal is a Voigt Pipe It would be cool if you tried a Voigt Pipe The Mark Audio speakers are going in Super Pensil Cabinets
Wish you would actually play something in these videos. No, I wouldn't get a proper impression but I would still get an idea of the sound. Charts aren't fun.
First of all I want to thank you for your outstanding videos🙏 Do you have plans to sell? I think I would like to build your pretty mid range white tower.
I think that Mark Audio is a mid woofer. the 12p is full range, the 12pw is a mid driver. i've read that they still sound good as a full range though, rolling off a bit around 10k. The graphs don't look very different though.
Great content, as always! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
If I put a 1" dome in a 15" ring it isn't a 15" speaker. I strongly dislike that kind of marketing BS that constitutes pure fraud. That being said... Nice speakers, the lii drivers need quite some time to loosen up. Let them play for a 100 hours at least before remeasuring

The stiffer the suspension the better the response...I really like the mark audio even when it costs a pretty penny 😊 Great clip as usual 👍🤘
10 seconds in and stoked to watch this !
Hey - it is the best day *EVER*! Glad to see a new video sir! Hornresp is a very deep and sophisticated program, for sure.
