The Okocha vs Ronaldinho Argument, That Is Becoming A Myth. Padded With Lies, Untrue Opinions & All

  • How does a player that comes from a country where style of play and skill sets have never been able to be repeated or passed on to the next generation claim to be the person that taught a bonafide footballer that decend from a country with a sustained football style and history of producing that type of players.
Ronaldinho had won the 1997 FIFA U17 world cup in Egypt, dazzled and mesmerized Nigerians from the garden city of Port Harcourt and the rest of the watching world at the 1999 FIFA world youth championship, all these before crossing path, with Austin Jay Jay Okocha, how can anyone all of a sudden claim that Okocha taught Ronaldinho of Brazil, what he does in football?
The two players have extremely different style of play, Okocha was more of a circus show guy with more intention to entertain the crowd, please the watching world at the expense of team goal, while Ronaldinho was a man on a mission with an objective to lead his team to success as well as destroy the opposition.
How can anyone compare a UEFA champions league, world cup, Copa America and FIFA confederations cup winner with Okocha? It is definitely an argument that would not end, but from my end, it is a sin to mention Ronaldinho and Okocha in the same sentence and Okocha does not have what it takes to measure up to Ronaldinho.

Abeg they calm down. Yes Ronaldinho might be better because he achieved more by winning trophies in his career. But if someone didn’t know any better, they would think Okocha was just a below average player based on your analysis. I know it’s all for click baits but the number 1 rule of journalism is being unbiased. How can you say Ronaldinho didn’t know Okocha who had already played at two worldcups and had an Olympic medal before 1999?!!! Besides Okocha moved from Fenarbace to PSG and not the other way around…

This analysis was deep. Sadly I always felt Jay Jay was wasteful and could have done much more with his talents. We can not blame him as he only played the way he wants. That said I do not enjoy purposeless dribbling which do not end in a chance. Whenever I watch Denmark vs Nigeria, I keep shaking my head as we were entertained but lost woefully. Funny how people do not rate Abou Treka but how effective and influential he was to the Egyptian national team

I just noticed that you can sometimes be bias with your analysis. I was shocked the other day, you was praising Sadiq Umar, Ola Aina and Kenneth Omeruo etc. it is okay we don’t over criticize our players but it’s also not okay to give unduly praise to some of our players. For example, Sadiq is not a strong striker like Osimhen. Aina lost his man that resulted to our goal against Tunisia. Omeruo has not improved since he started playing for the eagles; he is still shaky like an amateur.
Okocha may not have won trophies but we know who he was as a Number 10 player. As someone has said before Okocha pre year 2000 was different from Okocha post year 2000. He became purposeful with his play. Go and rewatch Nig vs Bra friendly match played in Abuja 2003. Ronaldinho was not seen in the midfield cos Okocha had it in his control. We lost that match not because of Okocha. Infact, Okocha created chances but our strikers did not take advantage of the opportunities. Bolton wanderers were losing some matches cos they didn’t convert the scoring opportunities created by Okocha. During that post year 2000 era all the matches eagles played with Okocha in the middle, we would control and dominate the game. That is opposite of what we have in current eagles. Our midfield is so porous now. Ndidi can only make tackles but no one to hold and dictate the pace of our games like Okocha did in his playing days. If you had a person of Okocha with a good strike like Osimhen, Eagles would have been unstoppable. Finally, I will continue to say that the former Caf president Issa Hayatou manipulated the Caf African baller of year 2003 and 2004 against Okocha to favor his country man Samuel Eto’o. Those two years Okocha was unstoppable and BBC acknowledged that by awarding Okocha its titles.

It is true that football is a poor man's sport especially in Africa and Latin America. The only thing I wish they brought up was when Okocha became captain of Nigeria from 02 to 06 and how he took Nigeria no where. That would have underscored the unseriousness. Great analysis. 👍🏿

This analysis here, is why as human beings we should be circumspect about people who are very outspoken (opinion leaders). They usually have the passion to drive home their points, whether or not they are right or wrong is regardless. If we didn’t know or see Okocha play, going by this analysis, we will all conclude that Okocha was the worst player to ever play the game football. However, despite that fact that Okocha did not win many trophies, he is Nigerian football legend, Bundesliga legend. He is Bolton Wanderer’s legend till thy kingdom come. “Jay Jay, so good they named him twice”. In fact, the English legend Alan Shearer named Okocha as his top 10 EPL players of all times.

Okocha is a talent. If he had been born in Europe or natured early by a top manager he would have shone brighter. Discipline was his achilles heel. Paul Scholes and Okocha who would a top manager pick at their prime? It would be Paul Scholes because productivity is what Managers want and not entertainment. Even though Okocha is more naturally talented. My brother you said it all correctly. Naija we too like showboating.

Oga Idafe you deh hit hard. You don't care whose ox is goered. Pa J na our own person now. Point of correction, the main JJ is James, their elder brother. Even Emma was then called Emma Nwanne JJ (ie Emma JJ"s brother). Austin came and toke it to international level. That's how we identify fellow players in Enugu then, either by your already popular surname, Kingsley "meringe" Ogbodo; Oke Boardman, your popular senior brother, Emma Nwanne JJ, your street; Emma Asate( Emma from Asate street) ,your school; Ogbodo C.I.C or ones nick name. This is because some players in Enugu do bear the same name or surname and so the need to differentiate and know the particular player we're talking about.
Okocha is very skillful for sure and like he said himself, plays to entatain the crowd. There are many players even in Enugu then who play more purposeful and result oriented football -amongst his contemporaries I mean - but were not that lucky ( Kingsley Ogbodo is one good example). If there was a coach who loved him and ready to cage him, make him play direct football, he would have been better. if we noticed in Atlanta '96 he did not showboat, compared to France '98. If the coach pulls him out and put in another player who brought the needed result, next game if he's played he would have learned his lesson and say to himself, I don't want to sit on the bench. In the National team nobody is competing with him, so the coaches had no other alternative. Only Westerhof tried to hem him in, but maybe his skills were too much to ignore. Could he have benched Etim Esien, what happened to John Ene Okon, these players would have given him a run for his skill. Anyways, I rest my case, Pa J is our own, let's give him his due respect.

This is what is called Brutal honesty. I think we should still reserve some level of respect for him.
It would be fair to say Jay Jay Okocha never stepped up on the big occasions. I was watching his highlights and comparing him with Ronaldinho, I'll say they have a lot in common skill wise but Okocha never really finished up on many occasions, his skills were not impactful when it mattered most. So it's safe to say his talents did nothing but won him the cheers and spotlight.
It's just unbelievable a name so pronounced never won anything for his country. And at the club level, not much success.

  • @emirez7316
    @emirez7316 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Very good topic! Glad you discussed it. Okocha is a player I kinda "recently" found out about. I must say if anyone reminds of Ronaldinho then it for sure is Jay-Jay.
I can understand and to some point agree with your argues about Ronaldinho being better than Okocha. Ronaldinho did won everything, but not alone. Ronaldinho had both Ronaldo and Rivaldo when he won world cup 2002 with Brazil. When he won La Liga and champions league he had players like Deco and Eto'o in his team.
Ronaldinho has always more or less played with but also against the worlds best players. Such as Galacticos.
He is also very easy to love because of his skills and charm.
Okocha on the other hand, never played with the absolute best players. His best teammate was Ronaldinho, and it wasn't even prime Ronaldinho.
If Okocha would played along with Deco, R9, Rivaldo, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi etc then maybe Jay-jay would also be more successful.
When it comes to Eto'o I agree with you. Eto'o thinks he himself is the African king of football, not Okocha or Drogba.
For me watching Okocha play is almost as enjoyable to watch as to watch Ronaldinho. Both are wizards with great personalities. Humble and entertaining.

Some people should not be given opportunity to give their opinion in football, because novice in football hearing them would think they are making sense. Imagine Samuel Etoo who is considered the greatest African player of all time, a teammate with Ronaldinho at Barcelona and an opponent to Okocha at international stage, is cunningly telling the whole world that he is occupying someone's position. Greatest African footballer of all time shouldn't be contested. That man shouting in this video are one of the people that will always neglet watching... "example when trying to select video of a good striker to watch" they will always neglet to select videos of, Ronaldo de lima, Benzema, Berbatov, Thierry Henry, strikers that knows football. They will rather go and download best of Haaland, inzaghi etc, and be watching with all seriousness. Sometimes I ask myself what this people are really enjoying. They only want to see the ball enter the goal and they will still ask who scored, Once they see Haaland celebrating. They don't even know how the goal was scored. The next thing you will hear is "Haaaaland!!!! greatest of all time". That man speaking in this video, is a perfect example of them. He knows nothing at all in football. Don't be surprised that when you later discover that he don't even know who is Jay Jay. Even the great Pele himself knows that the God of football is in Africa. You are waiting until you see him in Barcelona, Manchester or Real Madrid, before you recognize him
