John Elston - Black UCI Alumni Oral History Project

I moved to Calif. in 1965 with my parents, grandmother and siblings when my father retired from the military. I was raised in Compton Calif. I attend public school until high school where I went to private school. I went to UCI after high school where I followed my sister and several others from our church, First A.M.E. in Compton, Ca. As a student at UCI I was involved in several activities during my four years as a student. My leadership skills were on display from freshman year forward. I credit UCI for helping me grow and develop during these important year of maturation. I also met people at UCI who I still keep in touch with including my wife of 34 years Evalyn Frazier Elston. I am a father of three adult children. Professionally I am a Sr Loan Consultant with over 40 years experience in mortgage lending. My hobbies include photography, gardening and fishing.
