Agriculture is often said to be our backbone..meaning, its so essential. We know a lot of students study Agriculture yet we see many graduates brooding without work..without realising that there is lot of potential if they can find interesting projects as well as find ways to cultivate useful food resources, for both local and export demands...(for e.g 2L of "wood cheku" sesame oil (Nallaennai), from Tamil Nadu, is priced at more than 1,000 Rupees in Singapore/Malaysia and Naatu Sarkarai (Dark unrefined sugar) is about Rs 380 per kilo).Free Range Poultry farming. Just like traditional foods command higher prices..as the birds are not stressed...Even "Aquaculture"..breeding fish/prawns in large tanks..or ponds. I am amazed at the "Pathani" collection..which i probably had drank once, many years ago when I lived a few years in a village as a child. The health potential of such traditional sources have been lost in many parts of Tamil Nadu..i appreciate you covering this. Best wishes and hopefully younger upcoming entrepreneurs take note and explore possibilities in re-exploring older traditions and supplying better quality and quantity to the public in general. Sometimes its also sad to see excess produce destroyed or used as animal feed as no collective effort and investment is put in building freezers etc to keep produce longer...or even convert produce to other means..e.g when excess Tomatoes are produced they can be dried and sold in overseas markets/ or made in sauces..or excess harvest of rice is made into noodles for longer storage and better priced to yield more profits to farmers...also with collective mills, small business factories etc. Look at Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia taking more share of processed food segments...Always remember Japan came up in innovation not entirely by newer ideas..but making existing ideas better..for e.g there was the cassette player and they "invented" the walkman..which is essentially a smaller cassette player etc...Think...The MOST important factor is you have to "DIFFERENTIATE" your product!!!..AND "VALUE ADD", because if your product is no different its not going to be a success...even the traditional agri product can be made with a value added product...emphasising the health effectiveness etc...prosper with better cooperative/collective efforts.
