Imagine you’ve got the lover track list sitting in front of you. There they are. Cruel summer, death by a thousand cuts and I think he knows are just sitting there and you go… nope it’s gotta be me-he-he-hoo-hoo-hoo
My top 10 1. Cupid - Fifty Fifty 2. Creepin - Metro Boomin 3. What was i made for - Billie Eilish 4. Cuff it - Beyoncé 5. Kill Bill - SZA 6. Boy's a liar - PinkPantheress, Ice Spice 7. Flowers - Miley Cyrus 8. Paint the town red - Doja Cat 9. Dance the night - Dua Lipa 10. What it is - Doechii (solo)
'Dial Drunk' at #1 in this list definitely a big surprise but a very welcome one. Noah and Post have so much chemistry in it! 😊 Also really happy that 'White Horse', 'I Remember Everything', 'Anti-Hero' and 'Escapism' did as well as they did, along with 'Ceilings' making it into the list but shocked that 'What Was I Made For?' only made it into the Honourable Mentions. Amazing video, Mark!

So ‘Anti-Hero’, ‘I Remember Everything’, ‘Fast Car’ and either ‘Mourning’ or 'Chemical' all thankfully look like they have a strong chance to make the list based on the thumbnail and Mark's reviews of them of Billboard BREAKDOWN. After seeing how much the worst list affected him, I’m looking forward to see his happier side in this video. I hope it gets a good response! 😊
@@jchmusic7587 I haven't see the TOTC 200 chart, but if 'Mourning' is there then it definitely seems probable than 'Chemical'. Both awesome songs nonetheless.
@@Memorial24 Don't care + didn't ask, my dude. On a more related note, I have to wonder if taking into Mark's consideration of the new updates, would Son of A Sinner have made it on his Best Songs list for 2022 last year properly instead? It's only fair to ask since he did mention what would have qualified for his worst songs list in 2022 properly with those new rules instead.
Predictions for Honorable mentions: Dawns Good good Bad idea right? Get him back Your heart or mine What was I made for Bloody Mary Virgina Beach Chemical Predictions for the proper list (top 10) Anti Hero Dial Drunk Mourning Fast Car I remember everything
33:35 I don’t know if it was intentional editing or just a funny coincidence, but I love how 15 seconds after Mark tells Jelly Roll to take notes from Stapleton, the live performance video shows Jelly Roll totally vibing to the song. just a small detail that made me laugh. thank you for the list, Mark, great material as always.
This is THE most unique Best Hit Songs list I've seen for this year and I couldn't be happier about that. We're guaranteed never gonna see another 2023 year end best hit list like it.
My top 10 (I know most of these aren't hits but I attempted to do stuff that had a bit of a buzz around it): 10. Nothing Works - Declan McKenna 9. Femininomenon - Chappell Roan 8. Oklahoman Son - Zach Bryan 7. S * * Talk - Sufjan Stevens 6. Logical - Olivia Rodrigo 5. Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift 4. A&W - Lana Del Rey 3. Stoned - Ed Sheeran 2. My Top 10 Songs of 2023 (I am obviously much more generalist, as I consider any new song to 2023 or old ones that charted): #10: Tyla - Water #9: Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For #8: Mimicat - Ai Coração #7: Dua Lipa - Dance The Night #6: Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer #5: Bizzarrap & Shakira - Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53 #4: La Zarra - Evidemment #3: Chanel ft. the genuine love you have for music makes me listen way different and deeper than I already do. I think you deserve fantanos self proclaimed title " the internets busiest music nerd"
Great list, Mark! This is totally off-topic, but for the last few months, whenever I have tried to click on your name from one of your videos to see your TH-cam channel, I get a "404 Not Found" message. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?
SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED THE VIDEO: Man, this might be Mark's wildest and controversial best list yet! Seriously, if you had told me a few months back that a 2020s Drake song would make the Honorable Mentions, POST MALONE would be in the top 5 (INCLUDING #1), and a Jonas Brothers song would be in the Canadian Contenders, I would've laughed in your face and said you were crazy! Honestly, though, that's what made this list so entertaining for me, and after how angry Mark got in the last video, I feel like this was definitely a palate cleanser for both him and all of us watching, and I couldn't be happier! Damn great list!
When you get to the decade end list, you could probably use the yearly predictions from Pulse for the first three years of the decade. They follow the official chart window, but at least before this year that was still a 52 week period. And they go 200+ songs deep.
Some songs that would qualify for the first two years of the decade would include 2020: -Midnight Sky -Lover -Be Kind -Graveyard -Level of Concern -7 Summers -Take What You Want -Heartache Medication 2021: -Love Again -Diamonds -Afterglow -The Business -Made For You -My Boy -Hole in the Bottle -Tyler Herro -Golden -Memory I Don’t Mess With -Somebody Like That
I’ve seen the ones for this decade, but by chance has anyone posted something similar for the 2010s? Only like 150 songs is good enough for me and I don’t really care whether it’s Billboard’s original year end chart window or Jan-Dec.
@@oscarescq2112 the predictions for 2014-2017 went 200 songs deep. 2013 was the first year predictions happened, so anything before then would have to be retroactively calculated. As for 2018/2019, there were some people making 200 songs predictions (including me in 2018), but they weren’t the most accurate of the bunch. Still, better than nothing
My top 10 (Based off the year end): 10. Heart Like A Truck - Lainey Wilson 9. Shirt - SZA 8. Vampire - Olivia Rodrigo 7. Paint The Town Red - Doja Cat 6. Princess Diana - Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj 5. Creepin - Metro Boomin, The Weeknd ft. 21 Savage 4. Nobody Gets Me - SZA 3. Fast Car - Luke Combs 2. Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift 1. Lift Me Up - Rihanna Honourable Mentions: I Remember Everything - Zach Bryan ft. Kacey Musgraves What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish Lavender Haze - Taylor Swift Meltdown - Travis Scott ft. Drake Everything I Love - Morgan Wallen
Glad someone else loves Lift Me Up when I've seen almost unanimous mid or hate reactions for it. Really a beautiful song that fit well with the movie, people just demand more from Rih than she wants to give at this point
My favorite hits that didn't charted in US but charted everywhere else - IDOL by Yoasobi - I AM by IVE - Miracle by Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding - (It Goes LIke) Nanana by Peggy Gou - Rumble by Skrillex ft. Fred Again.. & Flowdan - Queencard by G(I)-DLE - Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard's Wife by LE SSERAFIM - Que Agonia by Yuridia & Angela Aguilar
Thumbs up for two Posty songs in the top 5 still didn't expect that but glad it was there Glad you gave so much Credit for Posty this year since I missed his concert here in our country.
I know that he might not gonna talk about it but K-Pop (the genre not the song) had a great year in 2023 largely in part due Gen 4 doing more Dance and EDM throwback
top 10 based on hot 100 appearances* what was i made for? ceilings the hillbillies boys a liar pt.2 bad idea right? i remember everything dial drunk in your love meltdown escapism & never felt so alone
Yeah Dial Drunk was my year’s big song too Mark. And yeah, it fucking hurts to make the right choice sometimes. Ngl, I screamed when I saw this as the number one. Here’s to 2024 hurting less I guess 😊
I gave a pretty loud "YES!!" at the inclusion of Fast Car, Anti-Hero and White Horse, and a good little "Woo!" at What Was I Made For in the honorable mentions.
my personal best list, again keep in mind my criteria is different from mark’s: HMS: Toosii - Favorite Song (sue me) Dua Lipa - Dance The Night Olivia Rodrigo - Vampire (sue me again) Beyonce - CUFF IT Taylor Swift - Lavender Haze Lil Uzi Vert - Just Wanna Rock Bad Bunny - Where She Goes 10. Luke Combs - Fast Car

Cole *Ceilings - Lizzy McAlpine *Speed Drive - Charli XCX *Speedometer / Socialite - Post Malone *The Color Violet - Tory Lanez
In a year where hip-hop really struggled, Johnny Dang is probably the most underrated song in the genre - and I know for sure Mark would have included it, but I guess not even the extended list helped it be eligible. such a shame, banger of the year.
My best list based purely on the year end chart: 1. I Remember Everything 2. Cruel Summer 3. Anti-Hero 4. Escapism 5. Fast Car 6. Lavender Haze 7. What Was I Made For? 8. Dial Drunk 9. Cuff It 10. Karma HMs: Next Thing You Know Going Going Gone Chemical Calm Down Paint the Town Red Tennessee Orange Until I Found You If I was using Mark's expanded rules, then Dawns and Ceilings would've joined I Remember Everything in the top three.
Another fantastic video full of insightful commentary as always! Surprised but pleased to see dial drunk all the way at the top, I expected it to be more of an honorable mention, but it was very cool to see that song grow on you during the course of the year! Also totally agree with your take on 10:35, that song deserved more love for sure.
absolutely amazing to see Escapism. make this list!! also I Remember Everything is a huge grower, I’d now easily consider it the best country song to crossover to here in the UK (Fast Car is also very good!!) Also damn, did NOT expect 10:35 to have grown on you that much but that’s very welcome

Mark's Best Hit Songs Of 2023 (that are on the year-end list) : 1. Dial Drunk 2. Anti-Hero 3. I Remember Everything 4. Fast Car 5. Escapism. 6. Cruel Summer 7. Going, Going Gone 8. What Was I Made For 9. Bloody Mary
Based on the thumbnail, both Anti-Hero and Cruel Summer, I Remember Everything, Chemical or Dial Drunk, and the cover of Fast Car. All are rightfully deserved.
true blue and we are in love, ESPECIALLY true blue deserved to chart, both are great songs, and true blue sank its teeth into me when i first listened to it and now it's at the top of my current mix playlist
excellent list mark, ngl when i saw waffle house pop up i absolutely started dying of laughter, but yeah the whole divorce comparison does make sense. i’m glad you’re in a better place than you were in the spring, and i do not fault you for connecting so hard with dial drunk, i have my own songs that i should probably be studied for liking so much. i mean my favorite hit of last year was numb little bug by em beihold. that should say a lot.
Nice to see Bad Idea, Right? in the honorable mentions, liked that one better than Vampire. Liked the mention of Bloody Mary, too...but I don't think it was featured in Wednesday? If I remember correctly, people on TikTok mashed the song with that scene where the titular character dances...or something like that. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't seen the series itself (and I don't have TikTok either). Most of my Netflix watching consists of Stranger Things) I got emotional during that Barbie scene that featured What Was I Made For?. LMAO, the montage during the segment for Cruel Summer. I'm glad it finally became a hit....even if it was 4 years after the release of its parent album. Nice to see Escapism, I'm glad that Raye managed to have success after that ordeal with her former label. I enjoyed I Remember Everything on a first listen, but I feel like I need to hear it a few more times to form a definite opinion. Anti-Hero was my 52nd most listened song on Spotify this year. (Lavender Haze was in the 50s too, if anyone's curious) Liked seeing Heaven, People and 10:35 during the Canadian Contender segment. Dial Drunk made me think I should listen to the Alternative Airplay Year-End chart again. I like it, but it's not one of my favourites on that list.
i haven’t finished my entire list yet because i’ve been busy doing nothing, but anti hero and cruel summer and probably lavender haze, get him back and bad idea right, i remember everything and dawns, escapism, what was i made for, and maybe paint the town red and cuff it would all be contenders. the worst songs this year might have been absolute ASS, but the good stuff was absolutely incredible.
My best list (using only BBYE, but I plan to expand it when V30YE comes out) 10) Dance The Night 9) What Was I Made For 8) Ella Baila Sola 7) Anti Hero 6) Fast Car 5) Bizarrap 53 4) Cruel Summer 3) I Remember Everything 2) Kill Bill 1) Escapism HMs: Cuff It (honestly a coin flip for #10 with Dance The Night) Cupid Lavender Haze The rest of the eligible SZA songs TQG Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2 Calm Down
I must say I was expecting Anti-Hero at no. 1 based on last year's list, but I greatly enjoyed your picks nonetheless! Also, I agree that the Taylor Swift discourse has been a little overwhelming this year; even a lot of her fans don't seem willing to really engage with the darker and more interesting side of her work.
Yeah obviously the negativity of this year's hits is very overwhelming, but hey, we gotta create something positive! Top 10 Best Hits of the Billboard 2023 Year: (Going based off of Mark's old rules, I'd have to spend WAY more time thinking about a new list if I used TOTC's 200, and I don't have that luxury... but I will say it's almost certainly better) 1. Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez + Em Beihold (Don't care what Billboard says, this was the only version that existed) 2. What Was I Made For - Billie Eilish (The context of this song in the movie really increases my love of it) 3. Golden Hour - JVKE (Yeah I acknowledge that the story behind this song isn't pretty at all, but I still can't help but find myself to love it, sorry yall 🤷) 4. Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift (Don't really enjoy how it was promoted, but hey, the song is excellent) 5. Fast Car - Luke Combs (Obv not as good as Tracy's, but still captured a good chunk of greatness) 6. Nobody Gets Me - SZA (One of the best on the album for me) 7. I Remember Everything - Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgraves (Kacey 💛💛💛) 8. Calm Down - Rema & Selena Gomez (Hopefully paves the way for greater Afro-beat songs on the charts, EX: Tyla - Water) 9. Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift (Yeah... this was obvious...) 10. Cupid - Fifty Fifty (I'm so happy we got a legit nice K-Pop song on the charts) Honorable Mentions: Love You Anyway - Luke Combs (Yeah Luke saved the country trainwreck this year's hits were) Going Going Gone - Luke Combs (See the above) Escapism - RAYE & 070 Shake (One of the better UK artists getting success in the US, love to see it) Kill Bill - SZA (SZA became one of my favs to listen to this year after SOS fs) Snooze - SZA (See above) Shirt - SZA (See above) Dial Drunk - Noah Kahan + Post Malone (Yeah you're not the only one who likes it a lot haha) And just like Mark, here are my Canadian singles that didn't make it in: Niall Horan - Heaven (Might honestly be my favorite hit song of 2023, I know, MASSIVE hot take) SZA - Low (Best on the album imo) Lizzy McAlpine - Ceilings (This was robbed of success in the USA) Tyler the Creator & Kali Uchis - See You Again (Surprised this got a lot of momentum but love to see it) Libianca - People (Check on Me) (Took me a while to like it as much as everyone else) Tiesto ft Tate McRae - 10:35 (Unlike David Guetta, Tiesto is remaining mostly consistent with good music, thank god.) Metro Boomin & Future & Don Toliver - Too Many Nights (Don Toliver. That's it)
I can definitely see either Anti-Hero or I Remember Everything topping this list! Both incredible tunes I absolutely adore ^^ EDIT (Spoilers for the number 1): Dial Drunk is such a fantastic choice for number one and definitely one of the best hits of the decade!
The worst part about the Fast Car discourse was the “this is a cash grab” argument It wasn’t a single until after it hit the top 10, it was already a bit beyond Luke Comb’s and the label’s expectations
Like I said in your top ten worst songs list video to another commenter..One of my friends loves Drake. I've been trying to listen to him myself but never really could get into his music until today actually. And it may be just one of the honorable mentions in this list but I agree with you Mark about "Virginia Beach"..I mean wow..That might be the only song of Drake's I listened to all the way through. I also just listened to "Money in the grave" and liked it as well.
You know what's funny? Before I watched this, I predicted that either I Remember Everything or Anti-Hero would be #1. Then I Remember Everything was revealed at #4. Then I said "oh, then it's Anti-Hero". Then Anti-Hero was #3. But I reminded myself of White Horse by Chris Stapleton and I was like, "that's probably his number one". But as if on queue, White Horse was #2. So then I had no idea what #1 was gonna be... Until I saw Dial Drunk at #1, and I was like, "of course".
9:20 Probably my favorite Olivia Rodrigo song at this point. I haven't heard this big of an earworm in a good while. 22:07 Dua Lipa + The Weeknd = This Song 23:55 Fast Car is one of the most timeless songs I've ever heard. The original could've been a hit throughout pretty much the entirety of the 90s and much of the 2000s IMO.

I'm beyond excited for this video! 2023 may not have been the best year for mainstream music by any stretch of the imagination, but MY GOD, do I think the highs from it are absolutely OUTSTANDING! Can't wait to see what Mark's got up his sleeve with this one!

This was so much fun to watch. Love the Taylor swift montage. Waffle House is a good song and I think should’ve been bigger than it was. And the discussion of being able to find music that can help you process emotions and events that happens in your life hence making the music itself personal is important. Great work as always Mark and looking forward to the rest of the year end content
It was Joe’s fault. If he didn’t do all that bullshit, and brought in so much bad press, it would’ve been a bigger hit, it was climbing in popularity, until abt then.
‘A&W’ by Lana Del Rey was my favorite song of the year… for a 7+ minute song I could listen to it repeatedly! Her entire Ocean Blvd album is my top for the year!
Great list! I love a lot of these songs. But some notable songs that didn't make either list (mid, decent at best, or good but just didn't appeal to Mark in the same way): Flowers, Vampire, Kill Bill, Snooze, Calm Down, fukumean, All My Life, Creepin', Dance The Night, Cuff It, Jaded, Die For You, Rich Men North of Richmond, Boy's A Liar pt. II, Barbie World, Paint the Town Red, Dancing With My Eyes Closed, and Search and Rescue.
My top ten best list based on a guess at what makes Aria's year end 1. "What Was I Made For?" 2. "Chemical" 3. "Fast Car" 4. "I Remember Everything" 5. "Get Him Back!" 6. "Rush" 7. "Cruel Summer" 8. I find it so funny how for me, the worst of pop music this year really reflected how awful this year was, the best hits of this year were so transcendental I can't think of a year without them. Songs like get him back!, What Was I Made For?, Escapism, and especially People are so close to my heart.
the good songs this year were really good (including some that were released many years ago). heres a list of my top 10 1. i remember everything 2. strangers (prob gonna end up being a bigger hit in 2024) 3. chemical 4. fast car 5. cruel summer 6. snooze 7. bzrp 53 8. super shy 9. first person shooter 10. like crazy
I like how this year with the dominance of country music, it has been split between a big 4 of both good and bad country. Good: Zach Bryan, Luke Combs, Noah Kahan (he's more folk, but both genres have similar characteristics) and Chris Stapleton Bad: Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Jelly Roll, Jason Aldean
I liked about half your worst songs, and about half the best songs, I feel like some of them on this list are rated higher due to your personal relationship experiences, which is fine, relatability always means something.
Imagine you’ve got the lover track list sitting in front of you. There they are. Cruel summer, death by a thousand cuts and I think he knows are just sitting there and you go… nope it’s gotta be me-he-he-hoo-hoo-hoo
"Paper Rings" and "Cornelia Street" are also there as well.
Also, Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince (I know it's such a ridiculous title 🤣 but it's a good song.)
My top 10
1. Cupid - Fifty Fifty
2. Creepin - Metro Boomin
3. What was i made for - Billie Eilish
4. Cuff it - Beyoncé
5. Kill Bill - SZA
6. Boy's a liar - PinkPantheress, Ice Spice
7. Flowers - Miley Cyrus
8. Paint the town red - Doja Cat
9. Dance the night - Dua Lipa
10. What it is - Doechii (solo)
'Dial Drunk' at #1 in this list definitely a big surprise but a very welcome one. Noah and Post have so much chemistry in it! 😊
Also really happy that 'White Horse', 'I Remember Everything', 'Anti-Hero' and 'Escapism' did as well as they did, along with 'Ceilings' making it into the list but shocked that 'What Was I Made For?' only made it into the Honourable Mentions. Amazing video, Mark!
My Top 10 Best Hit Songs Of 2023:

So ‘Anti-Hero’, ‘I Remember Everything’, ‘Fast Car’ and either ‘Mourning’ or 'Chemical' all thankfully look like they have a strong chance to make the list based on the thumbnail and Mark's reviews of them of Billboard BREAKDOWN. After seeing how much the worst list affected him, I’m looking forward to see his happier side in this video. I hope it gets a good response! 😊
Maybe he'll include "Mourning" with his new method. It's just a guess
@@jchmusic7587 I haven't see the TOTC 200 chart, but if 'Mourning' is there then it definitely seems probable than 'Chemical'. Both awesome songs nonetheless.
"Going Going Gone" and "Love You Anyway" might also make the list for Luke. I can see "Fast Car" only being an HM
Ashton Kutcher makes better music than Taylor Swift
@@Memorial24 Don't care + didn't ask, my dude.
On a more related note, I have to wonder if taking into Mark's consideration of the new updates, would Son of A Sinner have made it on his Best Songs list for 2022 last year properly instead? It's only fair to ask since he did mention what would have qualified for his worst songs list in 2022 properly with those new rules instead.

I noticed that and it made me giggle.

Love Escapism
Great list, Mark!
This is totally off-topic, but for the last few months, whenever I have tried to click on your name from one of your videos to see your TH-cam channel, I get a "404 Not Found" message. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?
I didn't find much I liked in pop this year, but I'll say without question, my favorite single of 2023 was "In Your Love" by Tyler Childers.
Yeah, In Your Love slaps!
SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED THE VIDEO:
Man, this might be Mark's wildest and controversial best list yet!
I knew Jason Aldean would make it
When you get to the decade end list, you could probably use the yearly predictions from Pulse for the first three years of the decade. They follow the official chart window, but at least before this year that was still a 52 week period. And they go 200+ songs deep.
Some songs that would qualify for the first two years of the decade would include
2020:
-Midnight Sky
-Lover
-Be Kind
-Graveyard
-Level of Concern
-7 Summers
-Take What You Want
-Heartache Medication
2021:
-Love Again
-Diamonds
-Afterglow
-The Business
-Made For You
-My Boy
-Hole in the Bottle
-Tyler Herro
-Golden
-Memory I Don’t Mess With
-Somebody Like That
I’ve seen the ones for this decade, but by chance has anyone posted something similar for the 2010s? Only like 150 songs is good enough for me and I don’t really care whether it’s Billboard’s original year end chart window or Jan-Dec.
@@oscarescq2112 the predictions for 2014-2017 went 200 songs deep. 2013 was the first year predictions happened, so anything before then would have to be retroactively calculated. As for 2018/2019, there were some people making 200 songs predictions (including me in 2018), but they weren’t the most accurate of the bunch. Still, better than nothing
My top 10 (Based off the year end):
10. Heart Like A Truck - Lainey Wilson
9. Shirt - SZA
8. Vampire - Olivia Rodrigo
7. Paint The Town Red - Doja Cat

I Remember Everything - Zach Bryan ft. Kacey Musgraves
What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish
Lavender Haze - Taylor Swift
Meltdown - Travis Scott ft. Drake
Everything I Love - Morgan Wallen
Glad someone else loves Lift Me Up when I've seen almost unanimous mid or hate reactions for it. Really a beautiful song that fit well with the movie, people just demand more from Rih than she wants to give at this point
My favorite hits that didn't charted in US but charted everywhere else

Glad you gave so much Credit for Posty this year since I missed his concert here in our country.
I know that he might not gonna talk about it but K-Pop (the genre not the song) had a great year in 2023 largely in part due Gen 4 doing more Dance and EDM throwback
He really liked "Cupid", but it could get snubbed due to his expanded criteria.

Yeah Dial Drunk was my year’s big song too Mark. And yeah, it fucking hurts to make the right choice sometimes. Ngl, I screamed when I saw this as the number one. Here’s to 2024 hurting less I guess 😊
Love that even after putting his #1, he still wants to throw shade at the artist
I gave a pretty loud "YES!!" at the inclusion of Fast Car, Anti-Hero and White Horse, and a good little "Woo!" at What Was I Made For in the honorable mentions.
my personal best list, again keep in mind my criteria is different from mark’s:

In a year where hip-hop really struggled, Johnny Dang is probably the most underrated song in the genre - and I know for sure Mark would have included it, but I guess not even the extended list helped it be eligible. such a shame, banger of the year.

Another fantastic video full of insightful commentary as always! Surprised but pleased to see dial drunk all the way at the top, I expected it to be more of an honorable mention, but it was very cool to see that song grow on you during the course of the year! Also totally agree with your take on 10:35, that song deserved more love for sure.
absolutely amazing to see Escapism. make this list!! also I Remember Everything is a huge grower, I’d now easily consider it the best country song to crossover to here in the UK (Fast Car is also very good!!)
Also damn, did NOT expect 10:35 to have grown on you that much but that’s very welcome
I'm glad 'I Remember Everything' eventually won you over. :)

Alright! It's nice to see a much happier side of Mark and 2023!
Tate McRae is Andrew Tates personal escort
Based on the thumbnail, both Anti-Hero and Cruel Summer, I Remember Everything, Chemical or Dial Drunk, and the cover of Fast Car. All are rightfully deserved.
This is one of the best videos Mark has made and one of the wildest videos! There is everything!
true blue and we are in love, ESPECIALLY true blue deserved to chart, both are great songs, and true blue sank its teeth into me when i first listened to it and now it's at the top of my current mix playlist
Hearing Bloody Mary play was a very welcome surprise 😂 Intrigued to see what the rest of the list holds
Spoiler alert:
Ngl even if I like the song, I'm kinda glad Anti-Hero is not at number one, because that would have been way too predictable.
the best song of this year, and probably the best song of the last 5 years, is Not Strong Enough by boygenius.
excellent list mark, ngl when i saw waffle house pop up i absolutely started dying of laughter, but yeah the whole divorce comparison does make sense. i’m glad you’re in a better place than you were in the spring, and i do not fault you for connecting so hard with dial drunk, i have my own songs that i should probably be studied for liking so much. i mean my favorite hit of last year was numb little bug by em beihold. that should say a lot.
Absolutely so excited at your #1. Fantastic song, and your choices are always very interesting in general!
YAYYYYYY!!!! As great as it is to see Mark tear into some shit, it's SO much better to see his happier side! Can't wait!
Most of my Netflix watching consists of Stranger Things)
I got emotional during that Barbie scene that featured What Was I Made For?.
(Lavender Haze was in the 50s too, if anyone's curious)
Liked seeing Heaven, People and 10:35 during the Canadian Contender segment.

Top 10 Best Hits of the Billboard 2023 Year: (Going based off of Mark's old rules, I'd have to spend WAY more time thinking about a new list if I used TOTC's 200, and I don't have that luxury... but I will say it's almost certainly better)
1. Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez + Em Beihold (Don't care what Billboard says, this was the only version that existed)
2. What Was I Made For - Billie Eilish (The context of this song in the movie really increases my love of it)
3. Golden Hour - JVKE (Yeah I acknowledge that the story behind this song isn't pretty at all, but I still can't help but find myself to love it, sorry yall 🤷)
4. Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift (Don't really enjoy how it was promoted, but hey, the song is excellent)
5. Fast Car - Luke Combs (Obv not as good as Tracy's, but still captured a good chunk of greatness)
6. Nobody Gets Me - SZA (One of the best on the album for me)
7. I Remember Everything - Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgraves (Kacey 💛💛💛)
8. Calm Down - Rema & Selena Gomez (Hopefully paves the way for greater Afro-beat songs on the charts, EX: Tyla - Water)
9. Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift (Yeah... this was obvious...)
10. Cupid - Fifty Fifty (I'm so happy we got a legit nice K-Pop song on the charts)
Honorable Mentions:
Love You Anyway - Luke Combs (Yeah Luke saved the country trainwreck this year's hits were)
Going Going Gone - Luke Combs (See the above)
Escapism - RAYE & 070 Shake (One of the better UK artists getting success in the US, love to see it)
Kill Bill - SZA (SZA became one of my favs to listen to this year after SOS fs)
Snooze - SZA (See above)
Shirt - SZA (See above)
Dial Drunk - Noah Kahan + Post Malone (Yeah you're not the only one who likes it a lot haha)
And just like Mark, here are my Canadian singles that didn't make it in:
Niall Horan - Heaven (Might honestly be my favorite hit song of 2023, I know, MASSIVE hot take)
SZA - Low (Best on the album imo)
Lizzy McAlpine - Ceilings (This was robbed of success in the USA)
Tyler the Creator & Kali Uchis - See You Again (Surprised this got a lot of momentum but love to see it)
Libianca - People (Check on Me) (Took me a while to like it as much as everyone else)
Tiesto ft Tate McRae - 10:35 (Unlike David Guetta, Tiesto is remaining mostly consistent with good music, thank god.)
Metro Boomin & Future & Don Toliver - Too Many Nights (Don Toliver. That's it)
that montage made me devastated... ur hairline went fast
I can definitely see either Anti-Hero or I Remember Everything topping this list! Both incredible tunes I absolutely adore ^^
EDIT (Spoilers for the number 1): Dial Drunk is such a fantastic choice for number one and definitely one of the best hits of the decade!
I absolutely think "White Horse" is a contender for number one if its eligible
You were wrong lol
The worst part about the Fast Car discourse was the “this is a cash grab” argument
It wasn’t a single until after it hit the top 10, it was already a bit beyond Luke Comb’s and the label’s expectations
I think your list was great.
9:20 Probably my favorite Olivia Rodrigo song at this point. I haven't heard this big of an earworm in a good while.
22:07 Dua Lipa + The Weeknd = This Song
23:55 Fast Car is one of the most timeless songs I've ever heard. The original could've been a hit throughout pretty much the entirety of the 90s and much of the 2000s IMO.
Yes dial drunk deserves to be no 1
in pop rnb my favs were Escapism, Seven, Snooze
I enjoyed the list despite not liking a single entry ^^
"Waffle House" just makes me want to listen to "Yesterday" by Marianas Trench, which it sounds suspiciously similar to.

That is a lot of k-pop, but I can't blame you since there were a lot of good k-pop songs from this year. Also, I HARD AGREE with that number one.
I'm beyond excited for this video! 2023 may not have been the best year for mainstream music by any stretch of the imagination, but MY GOD, do I think the highs from it are absolutely OUTSTANDING! Can't wait to see what Mark's got up his sleeve with this one!
I hope he shows us what would've made his best list of 2022 using the methods on the worst list

Mourning
Ok, I thought this was his top 10 songs of the year And i was extremely confused haha
I kind of like these updated rules. Kinda want to see what would've qualified in other years.
Definitely cruel summer
No definitely not Poo Summer
Well done to Noah Kahan you're redemption arc is complete
‘A&W’ by Lana Del Rey was my favorite song of the year… for a 7+ minute song I could listen to it repeatedly! Her entire Ocean Blvd album is my top for the year!
Great list! I love a lot of these songs. But some notable songs that didn't make either list (mid, decent at best, or good but just didn't appeal to Mark in the same way):
Flowers, Vampire, Kill Bill, Snooze, Calm Down, fukumean, All My Life, Creepin', Dance The Night, Cuff It, Jaded, Die For You, Rich Men North of Richmond, Boy's A Liar pt. II, Barbie World, Paint the Town Red, Dancing With My Eyes Closed, and Search and Rescue.
If you want a good song of 2023, look up No Vacation's How. No Vacation has always done a decent job.

Posty has had so much bad luck in terms of chart success this year. Glad we can give him his flowers
I find it so funny how for me, the worst of pop music this year really reflected how awful this year was, the best hits of this year were so transcendental I can't think of a year without them. Songs like get him back!, What Was I Made For?, Escapism, and especially People are so close to my heart.
the good songs this year were really good (including some that were released many years ago). heres a list of my top 10
1. i remember everything
2. strangers (prob gonna end up being a bigger hit in 2024)
3. chemical
4. fast car
5. cruel summer
6. snooze
7. bzrp 53
8. super shy
9. first person shooter
10. like crazy
I had a few favourites but I think my best will have to be All My Life by Lil Durk featuring J Cole
Flowers is the best
I like how this year with the dominance of country music, it has been split between a big 4 of both good and bad country.
Good: Zach Bryan, Luke Combs, Noah Kahan (he's more folk, but both genres have similar characteristics) and Chris Stapleton
Bad: Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Jelly Roll, Jason Aldean
I liked about half your worst songs, and about half the best songs, I feel like some of them on this list are rated higher due to your personal relationship experiences, which is fine, relatability always means something.
