IMO this thing has aged well. I know it’s got some old building techniques and the crosshatch pieces on the wings obviously wouldn’t fly today. But with some minor changes this set would sell well to this day.
This is such a forgettable yet awesome set. I really hope lego remakes it soon
I dunno I never liked it much. It’s too messy for me and the cockpit is really bad imo. The wings have so many holes in them, which I get what they’re trying to do getting the texture right on the wings, it it just doesn’t do it for me.

8:26 those aren't cannons, reinforced frame holding the solar arrays just looks weird like that. The only secondary weapon on the X1 is the cluster concussion missile launcher, which are those holes in the middle of the wing pylons. It is unknown if Vader's prototype on Yavin had it working/armed or not since we don't see him firing any rockets.
I like that model. I wasn't a fan of the ship as a kid, I blamed it for not being able to buy the y-wing as a kid since it was only available with this fighter.
But it grew on me when I started getting into Star Wars lore. X1 was the first step of the now decanonized tie fighter advanced program, which culminated in such amazing models like Tie Avenger and Tie Defender (the original one), with Defender being very rightfully called the best starfighter in the galaxy, outspeeding, outmaneuvering, overpowering A-wing while having stronger shields and stronger hull and better subsystems and better controls and better targeting system and more efficient fuel & energy conservation.
And X1 was the first example of how deadly can a properly funded military project can be when made by leading galactic power with almost infinite resources.

@@repticare101 I've been doing stuff like that under many Ryan's videos, some folks do appreciate it.
And I'm a lore specialist when it comes to starships, especially fighters and bombers. I can safely say I know more technical stuff than there's present on Wookiepedia when it comes to many ships, especially the more obscure ones, like Star wing for example.
$100 is really great for something like this. Would love some more ucs it’s that price range

If I had to guess.. since in the box art we see the first death star in the corner, the red location the background isn't actually Mustafar but actually Yavin Prime,the large red gas giant that shields Yavin 4 from the first death star's sight right before the final battle in a new hope

The extra grey slope piece is interesting for sure, but I believe I used to get double duplicates on a lot of my sets, especially larger ones like the modular buildings

this set is the reason i got back into lego i found it complete in box at the flea market along with the v-19 torrent got them both for $100 and now have been buying the new sets and some of the older stuff i used to want as a kid it's been a lot of fun looking forward to the new at-te with phase 2 cody thanks for the great videos, Ryan!

That is pretty strange to have those extra parts, I can’t remember that happening with any other set around that sort of era, UCS AT-ST springs to mind but really don’t remember significant extra pieces with that one neither
i recently went to a mckays and walked out with an original Naboo Swamp 7121 for 5$ and its almost complete! it has all the figures and its only missing some parts for the second droid speeder and some bricks for the plantage but still!

I remember back in the day i wanted the drop ship with the AT-OT set, I was mesmerized by it. my dad said it was too pricy so he got me the 7676 Republic Gunship instead, not disappointed. But the extra $30 more for the AT-OT and Drop ship would've been amazing and 2 sets in one. Not to mention it would be worth over $900 used vs $380 for 7676 but back then, we didn't think of that, only what was affordable and worth the $$ also I got lucky he got me the 7676 in the first place.
The fact you just opened a $1500 NISB UCS set is pretty awesome just to show us how dedicated he is.
To anyone who wants this set, you're gonna have to have minimum $600 for used and minimum $1400 for New

I really like your intro (or I guess lack thereof) because you literally just get right into it. It just makes so much more sense than saying "what's up" or "how are you guys doing" because nobody is answering
They really need to remake the Tie Advanced.... it's my favorite Star Wars ship ever. Was hoping we'd see Vader use it in the Kenobi series so we could get a new set but alas....
On bricklink when you look at the parts for a set, and all the way on the bottom it shows the extra parts for the set.

This set is at the top of my wanted list! The price is crazy, and there’s a lot of unique or out of production pieces so bricklinking isn’t an easy option. I hope they remake it soon!
Managed to pick it up about a year ago, 100% complete with the box in good condition, for around €150. I was very, very lucky with that deal :) Which parts are difficult to find?
@@mgninetyone7444 you are a lucky one! Aside from the window piece, which I think I could replace with one from the UCS Tie Fighter, the really tricky ones are the moulded piece that makes up the back of the cockpit and some large curved plates on the back section.

Thanks for the review Ryan. This set has cost well over $1000 (new) in Australia for a long time, if you can source one. Like many others have already said, I'd love to see a remake, and somehow I'd find room to have it on display too
2023 should include: Captain Rex Y-Wing, Siege of mandalore Repulbic gunship (with 332nd troopers), Mandalorian loyalist battle pack, and a smaller £30 build with ashoka and bo katan.
I live in WV and my aunt lives in Michigan and she just sent me some pics of 8 dollar 501st battle packs and 6 dollar snowtrooper battle packs!

I feel like those extra pieces where maybe for preference like inside the cabin of the tie. So it could have something to do with that but also those circles I don’t have a clue

That is better value for a Lego Model than most UCS sets nowadays. 150 for a TIE UCS model feels right, and makes that 2016 one feel overpriced.
Even though LEGO loves remaking OT sets, I’m a little shocked they haven’t remade this and the TIE Interceptor

Re the curvature of the wings, this sometime happens with long, thin, two or even three plate-thick structures.
I've noticed it most severely in a U wing from a few years ago, and Krennec's shuttle which was out the same time as Rogue One showed.
It can be eliminated by 'massaging' the bricks together with a bit of pressure.
I feel pretty presumptuous to say this because I like this channel and respect the dedication and depth of knowledge he has about SW Lego, but perhaps this model was not built with care.
He's also pretty slapdash with that steak knife, the corner of the box and cavalier about throwing the bags on the table.
Just seems like he made this set and this video hurriedly.

I will never understand the secondhand market for stuff like this, there’s absolutely 0 reason this should cost 10x the original amount just because a recent piece of media came out that will undoubtedly result in this being rereleased in some way
100%. It’s so stupid. I understand things being desirable, but why in the world would you spend 1K+ on a 16 year old Lego set?
Also some mini figs like Cloud City Boba Fett are selling for that much. Sets selling for that much are stupid, BUT MINIFIGS TOO?!?!?! WTF is wrong with the secondhand market

I bought Luke vs AT-AT and Millenium Falcon microfighters, alongside an TIE fighter and in total I got more than 20 extra pieces. Please, someone tell me if it’s normal

Ok a ton of people saying this ship is dated… I think it looks incredible! Honestly would be proud to display this which can’t be said about a lot of the sets of it’s time. And I actually really like the printed cockpit piece, I know it’s not hyper accurate but I think it looks great overall

Honestly this thing could just get re-released and a ton of people (me included) would love to buy it even for 150. To me i like these more clasic designs because they look lego. If i want a exact replica id build a plastic model.

I don’t really like this set because if you compare the TIE Advanced with this lego model, the cockpit is round with the tail on the back but the lego model’s cockpit is very flat

Are you sure it would include Vader though, and not an advanced tie pilot. That can Double as your Vader minifig.
