  • Today we separate the body and chassis from the 1965 VW Beetle. It's been 57 years since this car was built new in the factory. It's been sitting in a field in South George for over 40 years. Let's see what happens!

Because it is EASY...starting a project is the easiest part of any project... getting a vehicle...takes just $$... time is limited....experience is Zero.... once you get it home..then the Hard part begins....as you have to show talent and experience ..and patience.... as it takes time now...money is easy to give away...

Jaaa. Love it. Your trolling the haters. Go get them CT. Can’t wait to see the next car you pull apart. You do have deep pockets to purchase these gems so keep finding them and storing them. It could go two ways. You become an old man with a treasure of stuff that never got fixed or everyone’s envy with a garage full of sweet restored rides. I bet your viewership would probably double if you finished at least one project. You would be surprised how satisfying it is to see a project to completion. Let’s go CT you got this. Make plans buddy I’m headed your way next year in my VW Westy. So I hope you have at least one finished so we can go for a cruise! I’m gonna ask VW Darrin if I can visit him too!

Yes, it's all good. Everyone is right. I need to finish sometihng. I'm plan on having this one back on the road in a few weeks. Let's see what happens with the views! =) I don't have deep pockets. I'm broke...HAHA =) These cars are cheep. $800....I only purchase one or two a year. It's the new parts, tools and materials that add up. Yes, you are welcome anytime. Please reach out and let me know when you are coming. Thank you! =)😉😉😉

Exactly? how is he Trolling?? by what level do you consider responding in a obvious meaningless manner ( like it will get rebuilt soon )... having a realistic comment means nothing nowadays it seems...or watching someone do basic stuff and not proceed in a manner that shows experience and talent...and some desire to Finish 1 ..One vehicle.... haters is a stupid response...if you disagree it isn't about emotions or jealousy...it is an opinion.... yeah go act like your better than others by supporting someone without constructive comments.... how old r u? you must be a teenager still...lol

By the time you got down to this point, with all the pieces added together the car weights about half of what it did. Could paint some stripes and put the number 53 on it. You could go and pick up the parts for this one if you had a old truck to put them in. Just making sure you have not forgot the Dragon.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dear Reader,
It's like with someone who starts reading a book to you; you become dependent on the reader to finish the book. So I feel myself a little depending on Mr. CT to finish one of his projects. I can only hope he cleans this German rust bucket, and then finishes one of his half-ready projects, like the Ghia.
A beautiful car and very rewarding when finished.
But, of course, the initiative for the projects must stay with Mr. CT.
And like Dick de Graaff, I also wishes Mr. CT and his wife all the success of the world.
    With Kind Regards,
    Michel F. van den Brun
Dutchman, waiting and hoping for a project to be finished
Post scriptum: reallocate the inflatable 'garage' to a sort of sandblasting cabin, would help all projects to derust easier.

Some suggestions for you… you can get the “plans” for a VW Beetle body dolly, from the guys over on VW Life. They did an episode about a year ago when they put one together for one of their members beetle body’s, on one they built, and the plans were linked in the description.
Another suggestion… get the wider pedal assembly from classicbugparts. I love mine, it’s great for my fat feet. I also got the brake pedal instant brake light switch, to make the brake lights go on before the pressure switch at the master has a chance. One final suggestion… get the Brass shift rod bushing and install kit from ev4unow … vw-bushing, and don’t get the urethane one for the transmission end they are hard and disintegrate too quickly. Ok, sorry one more, for all these VW Porsches projects… DON’T cheap out on any rubber parts GET the German stuff, everything else just degrades. My build isn’t even a year back on the road, and the turn indicator rubbers, window scrapers, and many other parts are cracking & splitting, because I cheaped out and got Brazilian, Mexican and China parts, like an id10t. DON’T DO IT.

That one doesn't make a good kit, but there is a lot of things you can tear off and take apart, have fun.

Hi CT, wow that was allot of nest in there. Cool too see it all apart and ready to clean up good. Once that motor is cleaned up pull the valve covers and the oil plug and screen. If just oil in there and not water and rust it may have a chance?

Hey Tim, yes, it was pretty bad. I'm going to take a closer loo at the motor tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Hi CT. I have rebuilt many beetles and even converted some into beach buggies. I have boxes of spares. Would it not be easier to disconnect pipes and cables so they can be used as samples to manufacture new pipes and cables? Good luck on your beetle project. I live in South Africa.

I've only worked on one engine like that and there's a slim chance that you'll find the perfect rust converter that will work with the magnesium alloy that the vw engines are made out of. Steel piston rings rusted to corroded magnesium don't seem to have a recommended solution. You may want to check out RJ the bike guy - he's big on aluminium corroded to steel - apple vinegar may be the way forward....! If you could get the engine on an engine stand on it's side and pour in the rust converter after getting the cylinder heads off, you might be lucky - heat and a vibrating tool that you'd use to try to dislodge the rust on the piston rings. If the engine had enough oil in it, it shouldn't be the piston heads or their components - most likely just the piston rings. I haven't seen anyone try to use the electrolysis method for this - if the engine is still filled with oil a ionic solution poured into each cylinder and then the electrolysis may work - it might be about the craziest thing anyone has tried on VW videos on youtube for a while. I might think that a wooden frame over the engine and then driving a car on it to keep it stable while you use a 5 yard breaker bar with a couple of people hanging off it, trying to free up the engine would make quite good viewing, but so would trying each of these methods for a day or two when you're working on the chassis th-cam.com/video/Qi-tK1jwO-k/w-d-xo.html
