Windham Hill Samplers was part of my youth. I can to this day play these songs and I t relaxes me and makes me smile..such amazing talent. George Winston is my favorite pianist.,,,

I first heard Will Ackerman and Alex De Grassi when I was a student at Stanford University. Alex and Will would play "free" coffee house gigs in Toyon dorm. They also used to practice in the stairwells to get natural reverb. This experience set me on life long pursuit of learning fingerstyle guitar music. I have to say thank you to Will and Alex for inspiring me. I am now studying with Donovan Raitt and learning so much.
dunno what years you're mentioning, but i first heard george and all them windham hill folk while at mills college from 83-86.. still have so many cassettes, lol
I used to listen to "From the Hearts of Space" series of music on NPR, back in the early 1980s, then discovered Windham Hill Records, and musicians like George Winston, Michael, Hedges, and William Ackerman had a huge influence on me as a musician. I still have all of the Windham Hill LP's (half-speed mastered & in excellent condition,) cassettes, CD's, VHS tapes, and even laser-disks I purchased over the years in my music collection.
Thanks much !!! Loved Windham Hill. Met Bill at a concert in Atlanta years ago just by chance and got to hear him play in person. He was actually there because Stanton Lanier he was producing a record for. My English escapes me now lol. They did a duet as well as William playing by himself. This was just after the untimely death of Michael Hedges. We talked about how sad that was and Bill talked about how incredible he was in the studio. We talked about his studio even though I never wound up being able to record there. Still might have him master some takes for me (piano). I have an old tape somewhere of a completely different version of this George Winston recorded with Bill and Michael on it. It was done way before Bill finished this one. It was in the key of A minor and a completely different song. I love both versions of them and again thanks for this fantastic video of the duet on this. I'll ramble off now......:)
Ah...man..I love his work. This is so awesome. I had the absolute honor and complete pleasure of playing piano on "Hawk Circle" with Will in a concert series in Aranda de Duero, Spain a few years ago. I had watched this and another video of Mr. Winston & Mr. Ackerman performing together and remember thinking about that consciously during the concert a couple times and that I, little old dude me...was there doing the same thing Blows my mind still today. I totally count that performance and one we did together after my CD release of The Path Ahead which Will produced on a CD release and IMA winning celebration concert...as THE two favorite concerts I've ever played of the 8700+ times on stage. I treasure those shows. Look up all his and the music of those he produces now out if Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont...amazing consistent high quality, award winning music, album after album after amazing album. I love his new The Gathering" series a lot. One of my tunes made it onto the 1st Gathering compilation CD. There are 4 now I think. Had to share the memory...is an awesome one. :) Peace. Rocky Fretz
I had the music of George Winston played at my wedding. A few years later, I was extraordinarily privileged to see him in concert, front row center. A true highlight to hear the music that has meant so much in my life, played by the artist. ❤
I've played my share of weddings (keyboards/guitar,) and I would always throw in few pieces by Winston, as well as play his version of Pachelbel's Canon in D. I've also played for a number of private dinner's, etc., and of course, I would also play few Winston songs in such events as well. By the way, there is a difference in style, but you might also like Keith Jarrett, ("Paris Concert" would be a good album to start with.)
Tom Eaton wanted me to pass this along..."Please let him know that Will and I are still making the kind of music Windham Hill fans would love! That is the point of the Gathering Collections!"
For me, Windham Hill reached the pinnacle of music in the mid 1980s with several works, but especially Will's Conferring with the Moon. In my opinion, there it remains - at the top. The whole body of work, which introduced me to so many talented but relatively unknown artists, sounds just as good today as it did then. Glad to know of the Gathering Collections - I will certainly give it a listen.

Adore this music and most Windham Hill recordings from the 1980s and 1990s! Thanks for all TH-cam postings of these WH artists.
An absolute stunning auditory recreation of a hawk circling the ledges of a ridge or mesa; just tremendous.
Oh my, gorgeous guitar and piano .....so lucky to have this on recording. Beautiful.

Alex lives nearby. We see him often. My high school alum. A great musician.

Wow! Excellent duet!
There are hawks here and this song really does fit their flight pattern perfectly. It is a solemn mood, beautifully crafted

Just great stuff. I was heavily into WH in the 80s and it still sounds just as good.
Thank you for uploading this, wish I could see them play The Moment, that one was always my favorite.
Windham Hill music has beed the best since the 80's. There is no artist on the label I have been disappointed with.

al tempo , anni 80 si suonava questa musica... definirla "simpli" new age è riduttivo e fuorviante.
Grande musica!!
