]Austin, Texas, here. Like our Bruce (The Boss) few artists have moved me over the years like Mr. Cockburn. A gifted musician and brilliant writer, he has courageously spoke truth to power while making music heads and shoulders above the norm. Canadians should be grateful to have such a magnificent artist and human being to call your own. I hope he has years to continue to inspire! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, this is an awesome cover.
An authentic, powerful & masterful tribute to Bruce Cockburn and a terrific cover version of his timely anti-war anthem. Words fall short ...just listen to Blackie & The Rodeo Kings play it. A proud moment for Canadians and all who embrace music, peace and humanity.
Don't know if I'd say it's "antiwar". It was written against the US-backed dictatorships in Central America in the 1980s and in support of the Nicaraguan revolution. And it was a christian saying that, when confronted with the horror of these regimes, he would be prepared to use weaponry (specifically, a rocket-launcher) against them, their helicopter gunships and so on.
Yes, I agree with your comment Philip. Forgive my fuzzy memory. I tend to regard most war themed protest songs as "anti-war". This has a lot to do with being a teenager in the 1970's & reading the news & free press back in the day. The horrors of what happened in Central America were real. History will regard the actions of those cruel & repressive regimes as detestable crimes against humanity. As for the song, it is a courageous anthem of sorts & it stands as a testament those events. Seeing this cover version by Blackie & The Rodeo Kings really struck a chord and it instantly evokes of the power of Bruce Cockburn's songwriting. Full accolades to Bruce Cockburn for his great songs & for this worthy tribute.
The song is "anti-empire", with the protagonist about ready to embrace war -- even if only the war of the flea (guerrilla war) -- against the oppressor & the killers of innocents.
I heard this on my car radio, CBC Radio 1 in Halifax, the day it was released. That would have been my mother-in-law's 100th birthday. It's resulted in reams of unpublishable poetry and continues to inspire to this day.
in-ear click track would have produced a FAR smoother start - IMO no excuse for professionals being out of sync thru half of the first verse, Actually they're on slightly different 'planets' throughout
You guys and Bruce are Canadian legends…love you guys ❤ !
Thanks for rocking Bruce C...one of my favorite songs for decades and such a powerful message!
Such a tremendous group. Colin’s slide is immaculate.

If I had a rocket launcher? I don't think that's an anti-war anthem.
@@maxcyclone5416 Then you don't understand the song.
Thanks to CBC London morning for playing this at my request this morning.
Wow! You recommended this great cover today.

BC's Producer Colin Linden plays great Slide-Guitar in that Band! A great Cover too!
Damn
couple thumbs down? Wonder why......Great cover.
👍🙏🙌✌❤
Can a cover get any better than this?
Absolutely not!
The problem with guarded borders is sanctuary cities refuse the ones that need sanctuary.
didn't Bruce make all those sounds on one guitar, by himself ¿‽ 😒
No, there are clearly sounds in here that Bruce did not make in his version. Bruce's version was great and so is Blackie's.
Colin Linden played with Bruce back then.
:-)

Great band, great cover, great human music!
And you perform as what professional artist? Have I heard of you?
