    It also makes sense since it kind of already exists, at least the fundamental concept. Poleaxes had spiked ends, so that they could offend with both sides.

      @jbear9 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +128

      There have been weapons similar to this used on the battlefield. I kinda believe the only reason double spears weren't more common is just because they're so hard to carry around all the time. There's not a lot of good ways to sheath it and having blades on both ends means you have to constantly watch at least one anytime you carry it around.

    • @digitaljanus
      @digitaljanus 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +90

      @@jbear9 Yeah, where do you see a lot of double-ended spears and such? Prominent examples include Chinese Kung Fu weapons, which are intended for duels, demonstrations of skill, or one martial artist holding off multiple opponents. But in a battlefield formation context, it's not just about controlling your own space anymore, now you have to worry about not getting in the way of the comrades who are right next to you.

      @@digitaljanus depending on what you qualify as an end, Greek spears of the classical era often had a very pronounced butt spike and they were totally intended for battlefield use

    • @jbear9
      @jbear9 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

      @digitaljanus that's kind of my point. If you have to worry too much about what's around you all the time you probably don't want full size blades on both ends of a long pole. One full size blade and a smaller spike is much safer and more easily managed.

    I think the only issue with having a double bladed polearm is that you’d never be able to let it rest on the ground without risking damaging your blade. A basic spike would work since you wouldn’t have an edge that would dull, and it would be easier to replace a simple spike than a full blade. The concept is pretty interesting though

    I think that a double bladed sword has a few advantages over a regular sword or polearm, but overall the double bladed polearm is definitely cheaper and more versatile for a fantasy adventurer, whereas the double bladed sword is more of a battlefield weapon, but other than those few gripes, definitely agree.

    • @RevokFarthis
      @RevokFarthis 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. No no no, you stop that.
      The double-bladed sword is a prop at best.
      Swords are not "battlefield weapons", they are sidearms, which are only really effective against unarmored opponents.
      There are techniques that allow it to be used against an armored opponent, but only as a last resort and literally any other weapon would be preferable.
      Spears, polearms, things that can effectively be used in formations are battlefield weapons.

    Double bladed swords would never really work irl. It does however work in Star Wars as a lightsaber concept, because the blade itself is weightless, with only the hilt having any weight, as insignificant as it might be. You also don't need to put too much power into it (made of literal laser, you only have to touch your opponent), as you rely more on acrobatics and constantly switching back and forth between which blade end you're using to attack.

    The idea of putting a sword on a pole is still a talked about idea, though even though the sword would need such a long stick.

    Theoretically then, the best double bladed weapon would have a spear length haft with longswords fitted to each end. Perfection.

    More devs could learn a thing or two from some of these games' weapon animations. I wish more fantasy games were animated with some more real-world weapon maneuvers

    You'd be delighted by double-bladed glaive that the main character uses in a very popular amongst Slavs fantasy book series Keeper of the Swords

    A lot of historical spears already had butt spikes, so it's not really a huge stretch or major use change to have that spike be a full spear blade.

    The mystic speahand has always felt like the absolute perfect 50/50 magic, melee split.
    Mystic knight from dragons dogma always felt WAY too martial. Like the magic was way too cut and dry. You were a fighter with a good Special effects department. You were either playing the game in the boring way, or you weren't playing efficiently.
    High Scepter from Dragons Dogma Online is absolutely the most fun magic/melee hybrid, but it feels like if they're a wizard with extra steps. It's swordplay runs almost entirely on magic powered anime bullshit. I still love it and sword fighters would 100% do the same things if they had magic, but there's not a lot of classical technique there.
    Mystic spearhand feels the most balanced, with its actual combat feeling fluid and great. Most of the skills that involve directly attacking the enemy with their weapon feel great to land and hefty on their own right, then their upgraded versions also add magic damage and effects to their already solid weapon skills. Pairing it with the stunning bolt and Mystic spearhand just feels like genuine style that real soldier would develop if they had magic.

    Eleonora's Poleblade in Elden Ring definitely had a ton of grip compared to the other Twinblades (heck, it's right there in the name), but they definitely didn't capitalize on it the way DD2 did, I suppose. Oh well it looks neat.

    What do you think and how effective that you will using a Han Dynasty Ji Halberd? Is it lighter, less metal, low-cost(affordable for peasants), simple to create, penetrate armor, and effective to fight than the European Halberd?

    That was the whole point the Shadaversity videos about the dual blade sword was it needed a longer haft to hold and swing with. And you'd fight with it more like a pole arm them a sword.
