@ Carlos Barragan There are a number of reasons, there are a few air con components behind the dash that need it out in order to gain access to them, the dash may have been scratched or damaged by a previous owner, if doing an engine swap with modern engines the loom needs to ideally be used with the engine. Great channel. I have to get out of the car and wipe down the bonnet because its covered with bubbles and messy washer fluid..
Hi there An unusual problem indeed, i suppose it rains here so much i never cared that the washer fluid got on the bonnet. @@peugeotCitroen2CV thats some good advice thanks. so apparently on type 3 engine bay fuse box the number 7 fuse for the headlight washer should be a 20A but mine has a blue 15A. Im just going to pull it out and hopefully it stops messing up the hood.
Hi, thanks for the video, it was really useful. I hope you'll read this comment, because I'd have a question I can't find anywhere an answer for. At 3:31 there's a fuse socket with a 20A fuse in it on a separate wire. I have the same but without the fuse, what is that fuse for?
My 2004 ew10j4 Pug 406 handbrake failed the MOT. Is it enough to just adjust the starwheels on the brake shoes or does the center console also need to be removed to adjust the handbrake cable inside the car? I looked under the car at the center rear but there does not appear to be any adjuster nuts. Only the starwheels.
Hi there You can pull out the trim that sits in front of/below the handbrake lever and that should give access to get a 10mm 1/4 drive socket on an extension onto the adjuster. From memory the best way to adjust the 406 handbrake was to release the handbrake lever in the car, then tighten up the adjuster at each wheel until it locks up, tighten them up slowly so you know the point at which they lock. The back it off slightly so that its free. Do both that way then get into the car and pull on the handbrake lever. Get out and check that both wheels are locked on solid. You can use the adjuster at the handbrake lever to set how high it travels when the handbrake is applied.

No not at all, its possible to remove the heater matrix with a lot less disassembly in fact ive got a video in the 406 playlist showng how to remove the heater matrix without the full dash in place.
+peugeotCitroen2CV. Thanks a lot for taking the time for making this videos, and also to answer my question. I already saw the video and I will be changing mine next week as once in a while it comes a strong smell of anti freeze coolant inside the vehicle. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hey, i would like to know how can i change the bulb on my 406 automatic transmission. There are lights under the P R N D and some of them are dim. Is the plastic poppable or there are screws somwhere? Thank you in advance
Hi, I would recommend visiting the 406 owners club and searching through the forums. I have never owned an automatic 406 so, unfortunately, can not comment on how these bulbs are replaced.
Wow I would've expected that to be much more similar to a Xantia actually, since it's loosely based on the Xantia in some ways. I find the Xantia's dash much easier to disassemble, but then unfortunately, in the Xantia, you have to when the heater matrix goes wrong... Do you know if a D8 is much different from these D9s?
Funny i have just bought a Xantia recently (a 1997 V6) the Xantia dash looks like it would be easy to disassemble yet still seems sturdy. I have heard they can be a pain when the matrix goes, but its one job in the lifetime of the car, but just handier on the 406. The D8 and D9, a lot of parts are the same. The electrical system changed the most, engines especially diesel went from XUD indirect injection to HDi common rail engines. The interior trim changed a bit, climate control was standard on all models bar the base L models, there are a few other minor trim and exterior panels which were revised.
1997 v6? Brilliant! The nicest one there is if you ask me. Too bad there's never been a RHD v6 Activa. The matrix is a pain because it's a lot of work. I've disassembled a Xantia dash twice now and after you've done it once, it's all not too difficult. Again, a lot easier than the 406 seems to be. The glovebox can be a bit of a pain though, because it differs a bit between model years and optional extras. A '93 model without airbag or climate control is a lot easier than a '97 with airbag and climate control (like yours and soon-ish mine. Trying to retrofit climate control in my Activa TCT ;)). Wouldn't know about the facelifted Xantia though, I have never even driven one ;). But apart form the glove box, disassembling a Xantia dash is very doable.
Last of the Series 1 shape with the V6, nice black leather interior with only 50,000 miles. Rusty rear arches and wings let it down. There was never an official RHD activa v6 although ive seen one that someone has converted. How do you find your Activa TCT? Do they still have the citroen float? At the moment my C5 V6 is closer to being road legal then the Xantia, the C5 does have a lovely waft factor about it.
With decent spheres? Absolutely! Sure, it might not be as soft as a normal one, but still very comfortable yet with stunning handling. I've never personally driven another Xantia honestly, but I have driven an XM a few times. The XM was a bit softer than my Activa, but really not much. That XM didn't have new spheres though, which my Activa has. I have driven the c5 a couple of times too, but not very recently. I think that might have been a tad firmer than the Activa, actually.
is it possible to upgrade a 406 middle console to a 407? so one can fit in a 2 din system or satnav with sterio? any suggestions and pathways? please guide me in right direction
+Ravinder Singh Bansal I dont think so, apart from the different dash structures the wiring is completley different on the two cars, the radios are controlled and coded through the BSI so its not a case of swapping them either. You could fit an aftermarket unit to the 406 but its a single din slot, some people have removed the MFD display, and moved the climate controls up or down (with some trimming) then made custom adapters to suit the double din radio. If i was doing that id make use of 3D printing to make a decent looking cover plate as some of the pictures ive seen look very ropey. What i have in my car at the moment is the standard system with a connects 2 bluetooth unit, it streams the music, phone calls, sat nav directions all through the speakers. Yet retains the steering wheel controls and originality of the dash. Sat nav works through the iphone which clicks into a 3D printed holder which has replaced the middle air vent, very easy to revert back to original if needed and it works well.
I havent made a video on this issue, the sump is held in place with a number of bolts, it should be relativley easy to remove, there may be some pipes to get out of the way, replace the gasket when refitting the sump or use instant gasket. They dont normally give trouble because they are some sort of alloy, no rust issues but i suppose hitting a kerb will burst them.
I did it already and I had to remove alternator and metal surface which hold the dynamo. There wasn't another way to do it. It got stuck there. a job of 2 hour or more.
Hi. First of all thank you for your hard work and effort recording your videos. Do you know where the flasher relay is? its sound seems to come from somewhere behind the dashboard. Many thanks in advance.
+peugeotCitroen2CV If I want to replace the flasher relay I have to dismantle and do the whole BSI module process you have in another video? Still I don't know where it is. All I was able to see was a lot of connectors in your video. Do you think I would be needing a new flasher relay at all? I'm replacing my bulbs for LED bulbs.
+Jey Ey It depends on the year, they changed the wiring systems a few times. The D8 (1996-1999) Remained unchanged, the D9 (2000-2004) had two big changes the early ones (2000-2001) had the old style indicator stalks and were referred to as semi multiplexed, the later ones (2002-2004) had the com2000 indicator stalks and were fully multiplexed. I am not sure if the BSI then controls a separate relay, or the lights are powered straight off the BSI. There is a few relays in the engine bay fuse box. 406oc is the best place with this sort of question, especially if you want to change to LED's. One word of warning i can give regarding LED bulbs avoid cheap ones they tend to just stop working in a shorter time span than a normal bulb would last. I had eBay LED number plate bulbs, they were bright but did not last a great deal of time
+peugeotCitroen2CV Hi! I went with putco's plasma leds almost all over. Front and rear parking lights, front and rear turn lights, back white parking lights, rear fog light, side blinker lights, 4 yellow direction lights and all of the 3rd brake lights. I changed Interior and number plate lights with some other bulbs that I could find locally and they all together look great. The only ones I haven't replaced yet are the rear brake lights because (I guess it is because of the resistances) they glow normal but after braking a couple times they just glow like if I was braking the whole time and that is dangerous because I can get rear ended so I switched to the normal stock bulbs. I payed a lot of toll taxes because I ordered those putco's bulbs in the USA but anyways. I got a H1 Led kit for the front fog lights but I haven't installed yet because I had to purchase the light holder spare part itself because it is full of moist and rusted. I have to figure out how to access the front fog lights in order to change it. I will upload a video soon showing off. Thanks for the 406oc hint, I will check with them.
I cant really say it would be the same, generally its the same job ie dashboard removal but there will be quite a few differences to doing this on the 208, although taken in a similar approach just find out where the clips/fasteners etc are located and how to remove them. Once you do a few car dashboards you can generally figure out how they come apart.
Brilliant work, will be very useful for someone who wants to fix the car. I break 406 for parts in romania, i dismantled about 5 of them but i am not that precise, i'm more of a cowboy :)) I break plastics the next job will be a proper one
If you make sure to be organised with any removed parts keeping them in boxes, labelling them, taking plenty of pictures before the removal of the part or connector then it certainly helps when putting it back together, I currently have the dash out of a 305 van its getting the chassis fully sandblasted and parts of the windscreen surround and bulkhead welded so taking the dash out was the only option.
Thx for showing how to remove the steering rack. This way i can modify the weird position of the steering tilting upwards.

Up around the bulkhead, there is a large section of wiring loom which can be used to route cables through.

I think the positioning of some components may be different than my right hand drive car.
----
+Gringo AP When is this noise present? Is it when the ignition os on, or when the car is driving? Does it definatley sound like a motor? Have you looked at the recirculation flap motor which if the teeth are broken may continuosly spin around. I dont know if the components are laid out differently on your left hand drive car, but on the right hand drive cars most of the ventilation components are best accessed by removing the glovebox. If you remove that and if the noise happens when the ignition is on then try to listen for it and get closer to the component in question.
Generally the 406's dashboard is well made it doesnt suffer the irritating squeaks or rattles that the 405 may have had.
-------
Otra vez gracias.

Thank you for making thise videos,it helped me a lot with my Peugeot 406😀
Thanks for the comment, glad to hear another 406 owner still enjoying their car.
Tanks for making this video.
Is it necessary all of this process in order to change the radiator in the heater matrix??
All the best.
Hi Buddy! I am looking for a video on youtube "How to change the Sump/Oil Pan from Peugeot 406. Can you let me know where I can find it?
Hello there. The indicators on the 406 (these later ones in particular) runs through the BSI module. The click comes from the com2000 unit
Great. Some comments I've seen claimed it to be behind the surround & air vents but I wasn't able to find it there. Thank you very much.
Is it will same for 208 ?
I cant really say it would be the same, generally its the same job ie dashboard removal but there will be quite a few differences to doing this on the 208, although taken in a similar approach just find out where the clips/fasteners etc are located and how to remove them. Once you do a few car dashboards you can generally figure out how they come apart.
Brilliant work, will be very useful for someone who wants to fix the car. I break 406 for parts in romania, i dismantled about 5 of them but i am not that precise, i'm more of a cowboy :)) I break plastics the next job will be a proper one
I would imagine working on a production line would get a bit tedious quite soon if you had the same task to do repetitively.
VERY NICE VIDEO AND JOB ...THNKS
شكرا .
Good job , tkns
Thanks for the comment

U welcome
Yo debo hacerlo ahora para remplazar el evaporador
Yes it is probably required to replace the evaporator, thankfully we only really get a few days of the year warm enough to need the AC.
gracias por el comentario

Bonjour je vous remercie pour votre travail. Merci
Hi, thanks for your comment
de diez el video muy bueno saludos
interesting update, though a mission if it takes abit of d.I.y to even got in a 2din system in car :)
prolly
Who will have the nerves to put that back together!
If you make sure to be organised with any removed parts keeping them in boxes, labelling them, taking plenty of pictures before the removal of the part or connector then it certainly helps when putting it back together, I currently have the dash out of a 305 van its getting the chassis fully sandblasted and parts of the windscreen surround and bulkhead welded so taking the dash out was the only option.
think of the people who built these cars and the cost
