    Couple a weeks go we were in a grocery store here in jp. My wife told me, “They sell seeds here now.”
    I bought a little wild strawberry growing kit for 638 yen.
    Just this morning I looked and two of them actually sprouted out of 8 seeds.
    It’s going to be wonderful to see them grow up. Just growing in a tent I got off Amazon and I think they will love their environment!
    For those of you that actually have an outside garden, wow!!!
    AWESOME!!!

    Wish my alpine strawberry didn’t put out runners as it overtook my garden, still keep finding them around so hard to get rid of once i planted them. I think my alpine strawberry must be different as I’m from the UK

    you may have heard about it already but the Attila alpine does put out runners and will take over a small patch in no time

    First time growing strawberries and I’m pretty happy because I see a lot of fruit... but it’s being eaten by animals I think. What can I use to cover or protect it? Thanks for the info as always

    Great video! I love taste tests! Do you know the variety you're growing? I have a couple, one of which actually *does* put out runners (Attila) and one of which does not (Yellow Wonder). Both of these are ever-bearing, but they don't put out as much volume as a regular strawberry. Attila tastes like strawberry Pez. Yellow wonder tastes more like pineapple or ground cherry.
    I am a big lover of alpines strawberries, but I'm not going to hold this against you! 😉 The really awesome thing about the Attila variety, though, is that it makes a great groundcover under fruit trees, etc, it doesn't need as much fertility as a typical strawberry, and, like I say, it spreads really aggressively! I have grown patches over 80" square from seed in just a couple of years. It spreads so vigorously that I need to mow it down sometimes!
    I agree, though. The clumping kind is much harder to divide.

    I have been growing an everbearing berry that I'm not happy with. It doesn't taste great and it rots before it's ripe. I planted a June bearing variety this winter and they are doing great. I didn't pinch any blooms off and got a few very large berries with a wonderful flavor. I will look up what variety they are. I'm planning to get rid of the everbearing ones. I'll have to try the bourdevo or however you spell it!

    hey man I found some wild grapes in Vermont that had that same flavor, I saved about 100 seeds and took 3 vines for cloning, this grape vine was seriously as large as a tree, 5 clones out of 20-22 cuts.

    In my village we have lots of wild alpine strawberries..but most of them have runners...i think runner production is genetic, i may be wrong though

    • @samvodopianov9399
      @samvodopianov9399 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think its variation, some do not have 'runners' but do indeed spread, but only directly next to itself.

    • @PolAdd22
      @PolAdd22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samvodopianov9399 yeah...it depends on genes for example i took 2 wild strawberry plants (fragaria vesca) in a pot in my balcony and this year alone it has produced fruit and 10 runners each plant...i am sick of cutting them all the time😂
      I have heard that cultivated wild strawberries are bread to not produce runners to focus on fruit since they are so small

    One of the things i like about the alpine strawberry is that it is tolerant of partial shade, which allows it to be grown as ground cover beneath other productive plants. Does the Mara Des Bois share this feature?

    I started alpine strawberries from seed and they produce a small white berry. They do produce runners and spread. Mine are not dominated by cultivated berry plants, they have quadrupled and taking over. I was going to pull them and plant them elsewher, but I am going to let them have that space. I don't know where you got your seed or plants but I think the "pine" berry it's other name is the real deal. Sweet but not overbearing.

    Most artificial flavoring came from a natural reference. Bubble gum flavor is a flavor that is from the jack fruit. So most have to have a reference of some sort.
