    The Sega Game Gear was ahead of the time, I remember a neighbor had this back in the 90s and it blew my mind.

    • @KevinArcade87
      @KevinArcade87 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really ahead of the time. Gameboy was old tech when it released. They did that to cut cost and have parts for production which are readly available.

      The Atari Lynx was released 2 or 3 years before GameGear and had better colors and graphics capabilities believe it or not... a 16 bit handheld.

    Great repair! Though you should recap the audio board anyway, because those old SMD caps love to leak over time and corrode and ruin traces.

    I've got two Game Gears that I've been holding on to for years. One is the blue model I got way back when GG came out and the second is a black model I picked up in the mid 2000s from a high school friend. That second one I know just needs some capacitors replaced as the screen faintly worked. The other one I think suffered a short from a bad link cable or something (due to when it died) so it's possible the board on that one might be damaged. Either way, the Game Gear has been a bit too advanced of a repair for my comfort level but I'm looking forward to tackling that project sometime soon.

    Now that I found out about you, I feel really sad because I used to have a Nintendo 3DS XL (pink and white version) and the top screen popped off so it was completely black and the bottom screen still worked, but after about 2 weeks, it became distorted. I felt so really sad that it was broken that my 10 year old self decided to throw it completely away. I realize now that I threw away so many memories. I fewl like I could've came to you to fix it 😥 keep up the awesome work btw 👌

    just finished my first recap, things went alittle sideways when i went to touch up one of the pads with solder before adding the new cap one, thought i bridged a pad to a smaller capacitor nearby, and managed to peel up a trace trying to unbridge it. Found some schematics and it turns out they were supposed to be bridged/connected, ran a jumper wire as needed for the broken trace and she lives!

    I noticed that I don't ever see you Wick the pads on the board to get rid of the old contaminated solder so you have clean pads to work with. If you don't, I really recommend doing this its just as important as using flux just so you are laying down clean solder on there sold pads.

    Please take more time to learn about good practice with soldering. I understand this is not a how-to video but mixing solder chemistry, mechanically removing the components, not cleaning up vented electrolytic fluid can all lead to serious problems with the hardware down the line. I recommend observing how someone like Voultar removes surface mount and through hole components as well as his board cleaning procedure. Your cleaning of the plastics is very well done and the surface of it is beautiful, but please take better care of the core electronics. I only wish to see you improve.
