Shame that there was not much bird activity but I appreciated your lovely and thoughtful shots of the village life. That story about Sonya's restaurant was really heartwarming, her friend was very generous and Sonya was clearly determined to succeed.

The people were lovely - it was just such a stark contrast between over the top 'luxury' development and village life

So sad to glimpse a world without birds… and contemplate what that means for the local ecosystem 😢 Thanks for sharing another great post 👍🏻

So crazy to have a grand prix track there. Were there birds at the waterfalls?

I didn't see a single bird! Mind you, the waterfalls were noisy so I couldn't hear much ... and then it started raining ... so not optimal conditions for finding birds. I'm sure there were some there but you can't really wander around freely.

Queen of all the Wrens and a dog magnet as well. Interesting video, Sonia.

Interesting insight into Lombok. I had no plans on going there & seeing all the development, hideous new grand prix circuit & no birds, now it's definitely off my list of places to visit. Those waterfalls were quite spectacular though!! ~ Karen

I didn't love it that's for sure! There's much better places to go for nature lovers...

But there r lots of birds in Lombok!! 😮😂😂 I live in Kuta n we go birdwatching with my 1.5yo son on my scooter almost everyday🤷🏻‍♀️ if u ever change ur mind n come back here, I'd happily show them to u... But honestly, I can't imagine how u could miss all the cerulean n collared kingfishers, rainbow n blue-tailed bee-eaters, zebra finches, the 4-5 different species of munias, bulbuls, all the various tailorbirds, white-shouldered trillers, streaked weavers, long-tailed shrikes, black-naped monarchs, golden headed cisticolas, or in the mangroves, the herons n egrets n the many different waders, or the plaintive cuckoos n lesser coucals, brahminy kites n savanna nightjars n oh the different swallow n swiflet species that we see here all the time... But there r rarer species we encountered too, like the black winged kite, the white-bellied sea-eagle, the Flores hawk-eagle, the ornate pitta, the sunda honey-eater or the blue-eared kingfisher, n mind I can't go far away from Kuta with a toddler strapped on me... 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love ur camera though, wanna start saving up for something like yours when kiddo gets a bit bigger... Right now I'm just equipped with binoculars n a birdcall recognising app on my phone...

Oh geez maybe I was just unlucky, but I could count on two hands the total birds I saw in 5 days. Did see a pair of Kingfishers, and a couple of smaller birds, but no wading birds at all. I was out looking twice a day... We are spoilt in Australia though...glad you have better luck than me. Pity I didn't run into you! 😁🦜

@@flyingparrotphotography next time maybe 🙂 I think we should recommend and encourage birding at places like Lombok, because that could mitigate the damage caused by bad tendencies like hunting, trading (black market) or destroying habitats. By telling people that there's something here that's worth preservation we can persuade locals n foreign investors alike that protecting wildlife can attract tourism, thus can be profitable too.

I also think that when we take a serious interest in something in this world that deserves preserving (may it be the nature, a culture, languages or historical sites, whatever), we shouldn't let ourselves get spoiled by places with ideal conditions but actively seek out problematic areas n participate in saving/protecting them somehow. So let's change the narrative together, let people we can reach know about places like Lombok, so we might be able to counteract those bad trends. 🙂❤

Apart from the national parks, I don’t think there was any footage that you took that didn’t have any rubbish scattered around the place. Such a shame about the lack of regard for what looks like a really nice place. Interesting video, I’m sure you must have been disappointed at the lack of birdlife.

It amazes me the government has millions for a grand prix race track that no locals can even afford to attend, but no money for basic services like garbage management 😳

Bali and neighboring Penida is the same. My wife and I did a Manta Ray snorkel trip out of Penida, the amount of micro plastic drifting by was horrific. I worry about the rays survival, being filter feeders.

@@scottvaughn7824 plastics are a far bigger concern than other things we are told we need to worry about IMHO...
