My first choice was a 3 performance. I test drove it first and a few months later I test drove the y performance and loved both but decided to get the y performance because of the size and utility. It’s not as fast as the 3 performance but I can tell you it’s faster than all the 8 mustangs I have owned. It still puts a smile on my face when I sometimes hit it a little. Great review.
I have a 2022 M3 LR, really enjoy it. My wife has ‘20 Acura MDX AWD which gets us 350 miles on a full tank for those long trips, great ride, proven reliability, power is there if needed. I to was considering the M Y but decided to go with the 3 since I mainly drive alone 80% of the time. Both great cars, in the end you get what suits your needs better
I couldnt agree more with you. I have driven a Model 3 LR, Model 3 Performance, Model Y LR and currently a Model Y Performance.
If you alone or a couple and you dont need that space go with the model 3. The model 3 is a monster in turning. I miss that in my YP.
If you need that space go with the Y.
Im tempted to switch back to the Model 3 again.
If it's your sports car, then Model 3 performance. Faster, track mode, handles a bit better.
Otherwise, room inside is important, more elevated drivers position, Model Y performance.
For me and my family, Model Y Performance. Was going to get the red but changed my mind and got blue!
Only have 500 miles on it but so far so good.
Y - I managed to fit a 7 cubic foot chest freezer and a prepper load of food from Costco like a glove. Glad to share a pic.

@@Techxappeal it's crazy the lady at tesla says to stop doing that keep looking back n back at your delivery dates cause it will make sure stressed an go crazy my delivery changed 4-5 times November- December to now August 4th 8th delivery
I have a 2009 Toyota Venza, I like the hatchback.
I may go with the Y because of the hatchback, but like the 3 for price
More views inside both the vehicles would have been better. Especially the view of the model three glass roof vs Model Y. We only got the Model Y view. Also the trunk opening on the Model 3 showing the difference would have been better.

In my opinion, the 3 looks so much better. We are in a world full of cross over SUVs. The 3 just stands out. The 3 works for me because it's just my wife and I. No kids.
I love my 3 and we have a 1 year old. It's fine fitting him in his seat in the back but a higher car with wider space would be nice plus AWD since I have the RWD
Model Y looks like a goofy bubble. Still much cooler than a minivan. Model 3 performs better and just looks sportier.
I lug around golf clubs and hockey equipment every so often, how do you think the y vs 3 space would compare?
If you carry them both at the same time, there’s no way they are both going to fit if you do one at a time like hockey stuff one day golf stuff the other shouldn’t be a problem
If you drop the seats the 3 will do it. Otherwise depending how ling your hockey sticks are it will not fit. You can always get a roof rack and use it for this purpose (I do it for sky equipment)
One thing you need to consider with the performance is that you’re going to need winter/all season tires if you live in a cold climate.
As with any car, winter tires flex more to deal with the extreme cold
@FrunkToTrunk performance comes with Summer Tires. Which are dangerous for cold snow clime. You MUST buy a second set of tires (and maybe wheels) with snow or all season tires. An extra 2k probably on top of the extra cost for the performance. Other models (long range) and other cars comes with all season tires, which are ok (not perfect) and usable on winter and snowy places. Keep that in mind
Also the cold weather will damage the tires quickly and they will crack and become an and could blow up.
If I had made the decision to order a Tesla late last summer, shortly after driving one for the first time, I would have a Y now. However, I waited until March of this year, and the prices had jumped to where I wasn't comfortable going with a Y, and ended up with a 3 Long Range. I'm not complaining about the 3. It is an amazing car, and now I can't imagine ever going back to ICE vehicles. However, driving through wintertime snow in the driveway would be easier with the Y due to the higher clearance, and there will be the rare occasion where having a Y would make it a whole lot easier to haul something.
As someone that lives in PA with snow and a family I agree on all of this.
3P vs YP, which do you think has a better resale value?
Dang that’s a good question. I would say Model Y it’s more popular in EV sales in the World vs 3. Y is #4 now in the world! 3 is #7. But get the one that meets your needs
@FrunkToTrunk Thanks for the reply. Recently bought Y LR, and I now know how awesome they are and trying to change all my vehicles to tesla. I own a hydrogen cell vehicle (infrastructure is a joke) and honda Phev clarity. Phevs are good that they have both gasoline and electric power, but I have to do regular maintenance like oil change and timing belt and so on.
Applied for loans yesterday for my M3 LR. Tried PenFed, DCU, and Tesla. End up getting it from Tesla which was the lowest. 4.34%

@@FrunkToTrunk thank you! Now I have 30 days before my rate changes after rate hikes. I filled my loan application on July 22nd so If I don't get the VIN by August 22nd then my rate will go up probably
I drove the model 3 and I really loved it, don't you think the model y has a harsher ride?
100% - my brother has a Y we agree the 3 is smoother
The only thing that makes me want to get the Y is it’s higher from the ground than the 3

Damn you could have save so much money if you have waited a year. Got a brand new Model Y performance for 50k last month from their inventory clearance it's a freaking steal after all the incentives.
You’re forgetting to mention you get the Performance versions a lot faster for the delivery

Haven’t watched the video but guessing that it’s all the many ways the the Y is better, better, and better. Did I mention it’s better? , more leg and storage room etc etc etc… well I’m just hoping my model 3 gets delivered one day soon. The long wait for the car and all I have to tide me over is the many new videos on the better ness ness of the Y. It’s depressing and haven’t even gotten the car yet. All these videos on how great the Y is Over the model 3 makes me wish had an extra 10,000 or more laying around. It’s gotten to the point where if you can’t get a Y you are better off just riding your bicycle forgetting about getting a Tesla altogether.
no way the 3 is awesome the Y isn't inherently "better" just more space essentially. The 3 RWD is what I have and I Love it. Of course with a Y you may more to get more space, longer range, lowered suspension and a few other changes vs. the 3

Does not make financial sense to pay that much for the Y in my Point of view.....cheapest M3 is $46,996 vs MY LR $65,990 and all of this before TAX!!
Sales tax in PA is 6% on the purchase price, that's an expensive purchase!
Now a model y performance is 55k 😅

Or hauling anything. The non removable rear deck in the 3 is a deal breaker for most.
After 10 months of driving a 2021 Model S LR, which we LOVE, and two 4500 mile delightful road trips, we are taking delivery this week of a 2022 Model Y LR. We have sold the MS to a friend. Why, you ask? Because the MY sits us higher, offers easier ingress and egress, is smaller and easier to maneuver, has a steering wheel and stalks (the yoke is great on road trips, but not so great with FSD), and is equally fun to drive.
We have a 1 year old I think I'm going to trade in the 3 eventually and drive that before my cybertruck comes in a few years!
