Children and seizures at night

Continuous spikes and waves during sleep (CSWS) is a rare epileptic encephalopathy of childhood characterized by seizures, an electroencephalographic (EEG) pattern of electrical status epilepticus in sleep (ESES) and neurocognitive regression in at least 2 domains of development.

My 4 yr old just had second in six months. It’s like she’s in a very deep sleep and dreaming and starts stretching and tensing up and kind of talking. Cant wake her up when it happens. Not sure if it’s a seizure or not. It is scary. And advice or help appreciated

I'm so sorry to hear that. My advice is to be evaluated by a neurologist. Make sure you capture the episode on video before your visit so the doctor can see what is going on.

It means there is an abnormal brain wave detected on an EEG (seizure/brain wave test)

Currently dealing with this with my almost 6 year old. She has just started steroid treatment in hopes that it helps her.

My goodness, David. I'm so sorry to hear this. May I ask how the steroid treatment is working so far?

She is currently in day 6 of it. 2 first days of those were at the hospital under watch for any abnormal reactions to the IV.
What we had noticed weeks ago if not months is that she was not sleeping ok, and it seems for the past 2 days that she seems to actually remain asleep and not wake up and crawl o to our bed.
We are still keeping a close eye on her.
