Great video and very informative. I prefer to fish incoming tides. I do what you say and find me a nice cut or hole on low tide and then fish it all the way to high tide. Now on a different note I have to say I was kind of disappointed I didn't see a Spanish video from you. My friend Tony has a place down there and he was limiting out every time he went out on his boat a couple weeks ago. I thought for sure you a great Captain such as yourself would have had a video of you slaying the Spanish Lastly about the Blue fish. I have never fished for them but I did watch a video of a guy who does and he does it a little different. He'll cut the straight part out of a clothes hanger and tie his line to that and then run the hanger with his line all the way through the mullet starting at his mouth and coming out his but. He would then tie a treble hook on and pull it back up into the fish as far as he could. As I said I've never fished for blues but it seemed like a really good idea to me. Thanks again for the video. Good luck and tight lines the next time you go fishing.
Thanks! You know, haven’t gone out for Spanish yet. Seems every time Ive had a chance to go out, the wind starts blowing. We’ve had some serious winds this spring.
Im coming down for the 4th of july. I plan on fishing on the piers, surf, and some boat ramps. Ill be fishing lake norman til then, cant wait to see what is running that week 👍
During the 4th your best off on the pier, at least till evening. They’ll be so many people on the beach, it’ll make surf fishing difficult during the day. Hopefully some decent pompano will move in by then
I was given the 2 packs I have now but will purchase some when I run out. I need to work with it more. I was trying to work it the same way I do fish bites but it’s definitely different. I saw it online at fishgum.com
@@austinwasmund1258 I know right now people are catching trout on the pier. I’ve not had any luck with redfish but I saw a nice one was caught back in the creeks today. Spanish are already off the beach.
Yes sir. I’ve got a few boat tours scheduled but other than that, hope to get on some fish. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Looking at storms this weekend but that is always subject to change.
I’m at Southport on business right now (mid February). What should I key on? I’ve had a chance to fish the falling tide the last couple of days. The water is stained and it’s been a little on the windy side. No hits yet. I only have tackle for casting lures, not for throwing bait. What do you recommend? Or am I wasting my time by not using bait?
February is a hard month. I would think the fish that would take a lure, reds, trout, would be back in the creeks. With shrimp, you might get a whiting in the surf but they are few and far between. Having said that, in the next few weeks we should start seeing some action.
What is the pvc that you were pushing down in the sand to search for a certain type of shrimp. Also when is the classes that you were talking about?I’ll be down there next week to oak island I would love to hook up with you and fish.Never caught anything to brag about surf fishing.
The pump is a ghost shrimp pump. They are available on Amazon. Check out this video th-cam.com/video/NOd6S4WvfZE/w-d-xo.html We teach the class once a month at the rec center. Here is a link, just search surf fishing oakisland.recdesk.com/Community/Program
There are still some decent whiting in the surf that can be caught on fresh shrimp. Unfortunately you’ll probably have to work through some croaker to find them. Hoping the pompano will move in soon. This way we can fish the wash and avoid the croaker. There’s been a fair share of blues caught on cut bait but they’ve been smaller than usual.
Because of your ridiculous "Let's go Brandon" flag, we have decided to spend our vacation away from Oak Island. We have 3 families that share a beachfront house every year. After seeing this, the overwhelming majority said we need to find somewhere different. We did, ocean front with a pool at Ocean Isle. I'll be fishing the ocean there everyday. We are hoping our trip to North Carolina is not around people as backwards as people flying a Lets Go Brandon flag. I"ve always loved your posts. As a former teacher I can't deal with stupidity.
Jim, I’m sorry to hear that. The purpose of my channel is to share things I’ve learned in hopes of helping others improve their chances of catching fish. I do this hopefully in an entertaining way, to have fun and enjoy our sport. On my street their are many flags. My neighbor has a Trump flag. The house on the other side of his, during the election, had rows of tiny Biden flags. The house across from me flies a confederate flag and the house next to theirs flies a blue line (in support of the police) flag. If I were to decide where I’d go based on the flags, I’d never even drive down my own street, lol. But here is the thing. We all get along. And when there is trouble, like a hurricane, we all pull together and help each other out. I support my neighbor’s right to fly their flags, even if I don’t agree with them. I hope perhaps you will change your mind and visit Oak Island. It’s a great group of people. If you do, we can go fishing. I’ll even bring the beer.
@@SandsintheSurf understand. Sorry, but the Lets go Brandon flag really bothered us. Confederate flags would be worse. We don't see that stuff anywhere in our community. There are both Republicans and Democrats, but no silly flags, thank God. We have been to Oak Island many times. That is one of the reasons I have enjoyed your videos.
Good, we don't want you here with that attitude anyways. I'm sure you love the current administration and their great work "building back better" But hey, no mean tweets...
Love your flag.
Discovered your channel because our youth group is staying at Fort Caswell.
Good stuff, thanks.

Buy a 2lb rubber mallet from harbor freight (one in Shallotte now!). Makes easy work for putting in sand spikes.
Also, where do you buy the fish gum?

I was just wondering exactly where you fishing when you caught the flounder and drum
I will be down in a couple weeks hopefully the fishing will be good love your videos keep them coming
Thanks! I hope to see some bigger blues and some pompano start showing up
@@SandsintheSurf what about the trout and redfish? Are they still around?
I hope that the Spanish will be around. I’ll be in Holden but plan on coming to the oak island pier

I like watching your videos. Are there any public parking by the beach to go fishing?
Yes, most streets end in public parking
hey staying in caswell beach area june 4th to june 11th would love to meet up and get some fishing in at the piers or surf if you are interested
I'll be down this Saturday June 4th for the week will you be fishing any

@@SandsintheSurf thanks for the info. If I get a couple of days off I might go ahead and pick up a surf rod and try some bait.
It would be cool to see a mystery tackle box slam and catch a fish on everything in the box

Hey, heading to oak island for a couple days in 2 weeks! Any advice on what species are biting/where to fish at this time of year? Thanks!

Give the Seaside Mermaid a go for coffee and a sweet treat, if you haven't yet.
