    They shot this at Grand Central at 2:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. BTS did this performance 3-4 times in one shot each time which is very exhausting! Jimmy Fallon even said that he went to hug V and could feel his heart beating so hard through the back of his jacket. With most BTS performances, they post behind the seen footage of the making of MVs and performances. These behind the scenes can be found on the BangtanTV TH-cam channel. It's worth watching especially if you are interested in the production aspect of their craft.
    Also there is a VERY good documentary film of the making of the ON track that you should watch. (BTS "ON" Commentary Film: Dialogue) Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/npfs6afvIhk/w-d-xo.html

      While yes JK does the majority of adlibs especially during live performances everyone contributes. As the main that is part of his job. Ida S. did a really cool compilation of JK being the main and its not to diss any other member because BTS is 7 members but he takes his job so seriously and it seems as of late the hate and lessening of his role as others voices have grown and its unnecessary. Sorry if I went off a bit...It just saddens me when others discount one for.whstever reason because they are all amazing.

    Yes, they had their in ears in. (If you pause at Jungkooks solo part you can see them).
    They have a longtime, from the beginner, choreographer Son Sung Deuk and the members contribute as well especially JHope who is the dance leader. For this song, they worked with an LA dance group called The Lab whom they've worked with in the past. A very young female from the group has choreographed for them in the past. Members of the Blue Devils marching band were used and a gospel choir for back ground vocals. Theirs a whole behind the scenes background documentary about the experience.
    And it's really sad when I think this was one of their last live promotions before Covid. Their album had just come out and they were in the midst of their US promo when everything came to a halt. They mention regretting not performing this live for fans yet. Quite a bit (months work) of practice and prep had occurred. The songs from this album would have headlined their tour that was due to begin last April. So sad.

    Jumping jacks lol 😆 they work with different choreographers plus they have an in-house choreographer, our talented Mr. Son who's been with them from the beginning.

  • @magaly1660
    @magaly1660 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    They have a choreographer who has been with them since the beginning and J-hope(5:30) he is the main dancer he helps and puts in some flavor. They have worked with other choreographer from Korea and outside of Korea. We don't know exactly how much they practice but sometimes 10 hours a day. I know Jin(4:00) started a day earlier then the other members for this particular ON choreo. Besides that they post a lot of MV shooting sketches and performance on Bangtan TV if you want to really see what all goes into their craft

  • @Isa06137
    @Isa06137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    5:32 the one is rapping is Jhope BTS dance leader he was a famous street dancer of his home town he learn choreography in some minutes and then help other members he also includes his on choreography it takes a week for them to learn dance but BTS is famous for their sync so it's takes a month for synchronization.
    He uploads his dance video sometimes with #hopeonthestreet

    • @lightefilit
      @lightefilit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not true. They only ever talked about that one part of DNA choreo which he memorized quickly from Jimin cause he missed the first practice. Usually Taehyung learns all moves faster, and both Jimin and J-Hope help others only sometimes if needed, they aren't actually teachers.

    typically in kpop, groups will prepare for a couple months before dropping another album or single. within those few months is where they'll learn and practice their choreography, not only for the lead single, but also for at least half of the b-sides. that's a LOT of choreo. in BTS's case, they have an in-house choreographer, son sungdeuk, who has been with them since debut. j-hope also contributes to the choreography and helps lead practices. ON, in particular, was also co-choreographed by sienna lalau, who's part of 'the lab', the background dancers for this performance, based in LA. she also choreographed j-hope's collaboration with becky g, 'chicken noodle soup'. every member of BTS is involved in the production of their songs and work countless hours to make sure everything is perfect. they literally practice singing while jogging on the treadmill. idk about right now, but in their early days, they were working 16 hour days just practicing non-stop. it all paid off in the end though because look at them now.

    I saw this the day after it was performed,watching it on my phone before starting my day. I was expecting a performance with a crowd of onlookers. I was in awe and dove into videos and music clips of BTS for the first time. Due to a pandemic, I had loads of time to enjoy music and youtube videos and dancing with my young grandchildren. BTS quickly became a joyful part of my daily life and a boost to my happy energy. I am a grandmother from New York, who one day stood on a street corner to catch a glimpse of The Beatles when they first crossed the pond to perform in the U.S. Today, I am a fan of BTS and a few other Korean bands and I play their cd's EVERY day. There is a fun video of the drums being recorded for ON, in L.A. for the music video.

    They usually have outside company choreographers create choreo. Then it's sent to their in-house performance director who shows and teaches them choreo.
    First BigHit will send a song, lyrics, explanation/concept and what they want from choreo, then it's back and forth between performance director and choreographer until they reach the desirable result. Only when it's completed, members will start to learn the choreography.
    However, the dance line (especially main dancers Jimin and J-Hope) would often suggest their own bits and pieces to improve choreo and performance. There were only a few songs, usually solo performances or special stages where members created and/or directed choreography themselves.

    I was lucky and found bts when they debuted in 2013 (I got into kpop in high school around 2010) and they were one of the very few groups at the time who had a lot of "say" in all of their production from music, producing, lyrics, choreo, themes literally everything. They do work with one "head" choreographer named Son Sungdeuk who's been with them since the beginning but J-Hope is the one who really goes into helping choreograph the songs along with V and Jungkook and Jimin as well. J-Hope was a well known street dancer prior to joining BTS and Jimin studied Contemporary dance in an arts high school before and during training to be with BTS.

      While they are in tour prep or learning new choreo these days. But in the beginning it was that intense. Jimin slept in the practice room. The song Dope is about how hard they worked & practiced while others were out partying!

    Fun fact (if you didn't know) the percussion rhythm is not digital software. I know! UCLA drumline, choir and the Blue Devils marching band's hornline took part into the making this masterpiece possible.

    I'm not sure how long it takes their main choreographer to come up with the choreo (although ON was choreographer by a girl from Cali), but I know it takes them anywhere from a week to several weeks to learn it all. They practice for months before revealing it. Hobi, one of the rappers, is the dance leader, so he's in charge of keeping their choreo clean and together in the group. He also can add or edit choreo as needed.

    It depends on the choreo. This one was choreographed by Sienna Lalau from The Lab dance crew out of LA. If you watch the Kinnetic Manifesto MV for this, she's the one in the middle that they zoom in on. They partially learned this through footage, then went to LA to film and practiced for about a week, I think is what they said, then they filmed it in one day. They did have in ears for this and so did the dancers so they could keep on beat.

    • @athelas5305
      @athelas5305 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, Sienna Lalau is amazingly talented for one so young. She's done choreo for a number of Kpop groups including Blackpink and Stray Kids.

    When listening and watching BTS performances just keep an open mind and forget the ways of the west. BTS is totally a genre of their own and they have a way of doing it. They don't really conform to the western way. And I guess that is the reason they are loved and appreciated by people from everywhere. One thing more you should understand the message of the songs to appreciate them better.

    Suga gives a great definition of "K-Pop" at the Grammy Museum Interview. "rather than defining K-Pop as a genre, a better approach would be "integrated content". K-Pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the make-up, the choreography. All these elements, I think, sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres." at 20:45 th-cam.com/video/pLxoq7mcsg0/w-d-xo.html
