Season 1 Episode 9 "Christina": Christina is leaving town to get marriedâĶ But first, she has to sell her dilapidated downtown home. The good-sized property is in a great locationâĶ But after a month on the market, the house is only attracting âflippers.â Sofie says the mismatched colour scheme, faux brick accents, and ancient kitchen are to blame.
Season 1 Episode 13 "Toni and Gary": Toni and Garyâs beautiful but boring four-bedroom home has had over 70 showings in two monthsâĶ And they havenât received a single offer. Sofie says the spotless and de-cluttered home is in great shape, but it makes a flat first impression. In spite of the homeâs competitive price, she says, its lacklustre dÃĐcor, ratty sofas, and missing kitchen table are giving potential buyers the wrong idea.
Season 1 Episode 15 "Carmelina": Carmelina is desperate to sell her three-bedroom bungalow so she can return to schoolâĶ But the propertyâs been on the market for a month already, and no oneâs biting. Sofie says in spite of the homeâs charm potential, its mish-mash flooring, oversize furniture (and fish tank), grimy kitchen, and unfinished DIY jobs are a major turn-off for families and first-time buyers.
Season 1 Episode 18 "Stephen": Listed at $1.3 million, Stephenâs waterfront home features a double lot and incredible views of Lake OntarioâĶ But after two months on the market, he hasnât received a single offer. Sofie says for that price tag, buyers want more than just a view. And the homeâs tired kitchen, retro bachelor pad vibe, and overgrown garden are a major turnoff.
Season 1 Episode 19 "Catherine": In spite of its great location, fair price, and more than seventy showings, Catherineâs spacious family home has been languishing on the market for three whole months. Catherine is stumpedâĶ But Sofie isnât. She says the property looks as though it was last decorated when shoulder pads and leg warmers were in style. The retro 80s dÃĐcor has got to go, she says.

I agree but having realtor friends, youâd be surprised what people think tidy is!
OMG, I can't believe you removed both banisters.....totally illegal here. I would face those two green chairs to the eating table just to show it can seat more.
Why are those two green wooden chair sitting out in the middle of the room? As if someone forgot t move them. Imagine how uncomfortable they would be. And the fireplace is ignored. No.
Not keen on taking the banister off. Bit dangerous that !ðŪ
That first house with the green walls in the living room. I'd be painting those walls first thing! I guess it was in back in 2009?
Probably filmed in 2007 - Aires in 2008 - and no that green was never a thing! Just bored designers trying to do something unusual. That color would put off buyers in any decade!!!
Everything looks dated in this series cuz it's from 2007.
How are you supposed to access the water heater? The way they boxed it in it doesnât look like you can get to it if needed
I could listen to Sophie recite the phone book and be well happy the rest of my days..hm..hm.
I always enjoy your viedos. Its so awesome to see the transformation, great tips too
They do know that. A lot of times people are so busy with their lives that they really just donât see the problem. They get so used to their surroundings so itâs hard to see it. Also, some people need the help and donât know how to make their home appealing.- Susan
Have you noticed how all of these Canadian homes never have carpets or rugs? It is such a cheap and easy way to add warmth, color and texture! Especially with those long, cold winters!
I think a room without rugs or carpet make it look as if they just moved in.
Carpets are dirty and disgusting.
All?
Iâve already seen 3 rugs in this house!
People don't do wall to wall carpets in Canada very often anymore. Most people prefer hardwood with area rugs. The lack of area rugs in in this particular series is probably owing to the fact that it's filmed in 2007? And at that time, there was a trend where everyone was ripping out their wall-to-wall carpeting to expose the original hardwood underneath. Watch people like Alexandra Gater or The Sorry Girls... (Both Canadian TH-cam channels and they often use rugs).
Interesting and valuable point made in this video - âfirst time buyers donât have money for renovations.â I think itâs reasonable to assume buyers about to go into close to half a million dollars of debt for their first home must be financially savvy and capable enough to buy a gallon of paint and spend a weekend painting a room, but too often it doesnât compute. The loss is theirs when they canât see beyond easy DIY projects, and instead pay thousands more for a home thatâs âperfect.â Itâs all at a cost theyâll pay many times over for.
I heard something last year that, if true, is terrifying. It was that Canada doesnât have 15 or 30 year mortgages, that all mortgage interest rates change after 5 or so years, and it all happens at the same time. If itâs true, most Canadian homeowners with a mortgage must be living on pins and needles, and totally unable to plan their financial future with any accuracy. It must destabilize the entire economy, having only effectively adjustable rate debt on most peopleâs greatest investment. Iâd call it running a country by whiplash.
Stop playing ridiculous music during the show. We want to hear what people are saying, not listen to horrible music.
It's around 15 years old. Do you really expect them to edit it for you?
Looks much better!âĶ but the first thing I would think is. âI have to paint!â ð
What is so hard to see for yourself? Ugly decor, clutter and so many things to be renovated. Mostly people are not able to see beyond that. And runâĶ
Looks good on the truck. Glad the tub came out looking amazing. Hope your boys get well soon. I like when your hair in down.
I love that kitchen had to turn the video off before it got destroyed. I know Ism in a minority, but you like what you like. I donât even like painted or stained wood, I would sand it down to the natural wood and clear coat it.
If your house is competing with brand new homes for sale it's best to rip up everything and make it look brand new developer standard.

Whatâs with the 2 green dining chairs in the middle of the lounge? And as for the diamond painted above the fireplace ð and why remove both bannisters?
You will be amazed how at the state of homes .apart from hedious decor to being very untidy
Praying for sweet erin and your family!!
Iâm watching! Loved it - now to put my Xmasðŋð tree up - one of your decorations to arrive soon, to adorn it!
Hi from New Zealand. I love this house. It's amazing. I love the stone, wood panels, tiles in the bathroom. I agree with other comments. Please keep as many of the original features and funiture as you can. Looking forward to watching the reno.
Which house? They showed several episodes in this one video.
Is internet dating the new way forward? ðð find out how it changed this couple's lives here... th-cam.com/video/stdCfIcEgXI/w-d-xo.html
Funny how you totally skipped the bathroom in the first house, I guess there was no improvement to be done. The place look fantastic, but does the $3,600 include materials and manpower?
ðŊ Beautiful ð
17:24 look at that tiny furniture to make the room look huge on video tour. That's what they did to my house and it worked but when adult furniture was in place it took double the space!!
I canât believe they left the dead plant on the back porch
I would like to paint my window frames white but can it look as good of i jave vinal almond windows
So they painted white walls beige, painted over mid century walls, destroyed vintage kitchens âĶ They were also complimenting a renovation that turn a brick row house into a cold and âmodernâ one. With painted bricks ð Trends come and goes but white walls will always come back and keeping the original features of a home if in good condition and work around it, is always be a better idea.
This extension was totally unnecessary. For the cost of it they could have renovated upper floor and bought a furniture, too.
What happened to the dogs' bed?
Why all the green ?
Was this filmed in the 80âs? Their upgrades are dated. A staircase needs at least one banister to be to code. Hopefully the people viewing her house donât fall down the stairs. Sheâll be in court
Filmed in 2007.
rerun
This show has to be staged with actors. There's no way that many grown adults don't know they have to clean, declutter & paint/repair their home before selling it
Oh you would be surprised!!ðŪ
Some people are OBLIVIOUS!!!
This was before the popularity of house flipping shows where people understand more about selling homes.
Some people are just clueless
All reality tv is somewhat staged.
Sad Pringle neighborhood, LAZY BUILDER DESIGN. Developers can do much better than the British Mining Town crowded street look. I'd move too, but never would have bought...
Omg what a flirtation demeanour she has! Not at all like Kirsty. I find her quite annoyingâĶâĶswitching off âĶ.over and out
I can't believe they painted over that beautiful Mid Century Modern paneling.... barbarians. Jesus.
Was he there?
insane. a total mistake. cannot believe the owner agreed to that. can never get it back. it was beautiful.
The amount she spends on silly things like curtains is ridiculous
I donât like that a lot of storyâs around the houses in the show are staged. It took more than one year to finally be in the show and in that time most of the owners has gone forward with their life. They have separated or changed jobs. So the storyâs why they need the service as when they applied are no longer current.
I love this series. But, PLEASE don't help millionaires.
Please.don't.
Yeah not even good actors like this video Christen she's been on other episodes just as bad acting lol she's unappreciative of the help she's gotten she's very greedy selfish she's done nothing the entire time she's been there she's waiting for this so called program to pay for her mistakes clean up her . messes,
