Hi Jackson! I discovered your channel when my fur baby started spraying. We couldn’t get her to stop no matter what we did. Come to find out, we were just making it worse. Locking her up at night, showing her the sprayed areas and scolding her, I mean, totally clueless pet parenting and stressing her out more. This of course led to more spraying. So there I am, at my wits end looking for answers on TH-cam and you pop up! What an eye opener. We used all your tips for the clean up, added two cat trees (one on each floor of the house) and one extra litter box. She responded to the changes almost immediately and has not spayed since then! Wow! You are not kidding when you say “Catify to satisfy”. I’m so grateful to you for helping me get my happy Kitty back. 😽🥰

Speaking as a person on a limited budget and in a rented home - don't doubt the efficacy of open bookshelves and cardboard to create scent soakers, and space off the floor. (I use IVAR from IKEA that I've bought over the years). Putting a bookshelf near the window makes for great cat tv.

Catified most of my house, so I'm also doing a boring part of the yard. I was going to use a big wire cage to protect a tree but it was on it's side and I put a blanket over it to dry-now a cat tunnel with cardboard boxes inside. I made a dry dirt patch bigger with sand and sawdust, they love rolling/playing in it. I hauled 4ftx2 chunks of dead tree and lined them up, became a sitting, walking, scratching and zoomie circuit. I nailed boards to connect the the top of 10 ft posts and have a 20 ft. log going up, they love sprinting up this and having a view of the area. So they play while my back aches....worth it!

Irony. A feral female cat about 6 months old started hanging around our large covered porch 4 months ago. She sleeps out there and leaves for the day when the sun comes up. I put out one of our 40 inch cat towers and she started sleeping in it but left in the morning. Yesterday my husband was bringing home a new 5 ft cat tree so I gave the out door cat the beat up 5 foot tree we were replacing. This is the first day that cat has not left at sunrise. I went out to feed the squirrels their peanuts and got the shock of my life, she is still in that tall cat tree. It has feather toys suspended that she's crazy about and she sits at the very top bed and just watches the world go by. Adorablew to see her reaction to having her two cat trees.

I stacked two small coffee tables I found in free piles, put a large square cat bed in the middle, and stuck it next to a window. It is super popular! Cats can watch out the window, have a cushy nap in the middle, or curl up in the darker space on the bottom. I highly recommend this inexpensive alternative.

Literally every room in my apartment is catified. Yes, this includes clearing off the top shelf in the bathroom and putting a nice folded up blanket instead so my bathroom cat has a comfy spot from which to critique our toilet technique.
These cats have more room and nicer stuff than my roommate and I! Which is as it should be.

I can't wait to move for this very reason. My new house has 9 foot ceilings and lots of windows. I plan on utilizing the walls for my 2 cats while my 2 dogs and myself occupy the floor space. My amazing sister has already started helping by gifting me a 7 foot cat tree for Christmas and giving me wooden crates that she used as decorations for her wedding. I plan on making shelves and (hopefully) floating sisal posts myself.

Hi Daggert. I rent too, and Bunnings hardware stores have suction cup shelves in the bathroom section. Several pet stores also carry cat stands with lots of sections. I've seen the same on eBay, Amazon and on American shows and videos. Like Cat Daddy says, don't go expensive. Shelves can be the top of bookshelves and cupboards that don't have human stuff in top like ornaments, books and plants.

    • @Xune2000

Do people these days not know about wall filler and paint?!
Drill as many holes as you like, then when you're moving out, fill the holes and paint over them. The landlord will never know.
Just make sure you're not drilling or nailing into water pipes or electrical wiring.

      @StoryMing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have the exact same dilemma.

    • @mieroth
      @mieroth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@StoryMing You can always reorganise your furniture so your cat has a jumping space. For example I have my bed close to a dresser which is close to a closet so my cats can jump from one to the other and end up very near the ceiling. Granted this is an IKEA closet so it IS bolted to the wall for safety, but heavier closets don't need to be bolted so this would be a way to create a travel road for cats without bolting stuff into walls.
Having a tall and sturdy cat tree is always great. I have one with 4 columns at the bottom, so it again doesn't need to be bolted into the wall, always check the instructions. And of course if you can make it yourself or know someone who can that's a lot cheaper but the ones I've bought have never been overly expensive. And you can combine this with other furniture you have to create a walkpath. I have my cat tree near a window and keep the window sills clear of any plants or anything, so they have this as a walkway and to lie on in the sun and will often use the window sills as a springboard to jump onto the cat tree while they're running around and playing.
Just work with what you have! I can put stuff on the walls where I live, but I've never seen any reason to.

Part of my catification is just letting my cats use my chair, desk, shelves, totes, as a chair-desk-shelf-tote superhighway to run and jump and sharpen and chase as they like.
Also, the perfect crook in the upstairs window, just behind the headboard of my bed. It can fit three cats all chittering at the starling nesting in my roof. 😂
One of them has broken a few blinds off and watches the world out of the hole.
I don’t even mind any of the damage because I’ve owned cats for so long. I’m aware they wreck your shit sometimes. I accept it.
I’m also planning to add more shelves for them to run on in the living room. Once I can get out to a store and get some. For now they have a lot of under-over-under places to go, when they want to be away from me or each other.
I’m really blessed that they all put up with each other really well, and have never gotten really nasty with each other. They share bed space, and they trade off sleeping spots, and use whatever litter box is closest. I’m super blessed and I know it.

I found that building a cat tree that would withstand the antics of my largest cat (store-bought cat trees made out of extra thick cardboard weren't strong enough) was an excellent excuse to get all the power tools that I actually wanted anyway. I built an 8 foot tall cat tree that is so strong that I could sit on it and it was so sturdy that one of my cats took a completely mellow bath on the very top of it during the 7.1 Ridgecrest earthquake that we felt last year. Everyone else was disconcerted by that earthquake but one of my cats just kept taking her usual bath the entire time. The other cats hid or were already outside in the backyard. In any case, building a cat tree is a great reason to buy all kinds of woodworking tools and then you can build an independent structure that never needs to be attached to any walls so you can bring it with you even if you can't make any holes in the wall. It's really not as hard as you think and the actual cat tree materials aren't that expensive.
If you don't have any money (as most of us don't right now and neither do I), there are a lot of things you can make for your cats out of stuff you would otherwise throw away. I have made all kinds of stuff for them out of old socks that don't have good elastic at the top and boxes. A lot of grocery stores will even give you boxes and then all you have to do is cut them up and make something out of them. Maybe all you have to do is buy glue to create something out of the boxes. My cats have actually loved the toys I have made for them more than any of the store bought stuff.

They would play a gentle game of tag with him, where they’d walk a meter and sit down and wait for him to toddle on the floor to catch up and then walk a meter and repeat, it was adorable. Boxes, document tubes and a roll of duct tape.
Cut holes in the boxes and connect them with the tubes and tape the lot together.
You can get carpet scraps to line the boxes, making them more durable to scratches and give your cat interesting textures.
Cut a few holes in the boxes, one or two large enough for the cat to get in & out, a few that they can get a paw through or peek out of.

Loads of examples from my experience of surprise cat ownership...
At the beginning I made a cat scratching post out of a load of cardboard. Pyramid/Christmas tree shaped.
I reinforced his favourite box with extra cardboard panels to make a den he could also sit on (his other boxes all collapsed) or lie in.
I also used the string and handles from the top of the litter bags to make cat toys and cut up the litter bag to make tray liners. Plus, I taped strings to the ceiling of cardboard boxes lain on their sides.
I filled a low box full of tubes from toilet and kitchen paper plus other things (old toys, newspaper) which I throw a few treats in regularly inc. inside the tubez and he has to dig through to find them.
I also made a mini maze from an Amazon box with holes cut out the sides (windows and doors) and cardboard walls attached inside when he was very tiny and put his favourite toy inside.
Don't need money if you don't mind how it looks, I always intended to spruce them up later but never got round to it.

Even though our cats are allowed on all furniture (besides counters and tables) we have 5 cat trees, several beds, and plenty of toys. 3 big cat trees are in the sunroom in front of the big windows. There is also one smaller tunnel tree in the sunroom right outside my aunt’s bedroom. The 5th tree (2nd small tree) is in my bedroom in front of the window. We’ve never had any issues with fighting; we’ve had 5 cats at one point but are down to 4. And there wasn’t any issues when we brought the youngest/newest cat in. The other cats weren’t sure but they weren’t aggressive with him, they just stayed away from him for the first week or so. We also have 5 litter boxes: one per cat plus one. My aunt has an old high chair that’s been in her family for generations and the youngest cat loves to jump up and sit there. She also has a child’s rocking chair from when her sons (now adults) were small and my calico loves to sit on there.

Just need a good spot for it and make it look good so it matches the living room the live in. There is a lot of flowers and gold and white and elegant paintings so I'm going to go with that elegant theme for them.

Hi Jackson! Love watching reruns of Cat from Hell and sooo happy I found your TH-cam Channel! I have a question for you. I’m about to adopt my first furry companion, but am living with housemates that are obsessed with plants. How do I make sure that my new friend doesn’t eat the plants and upset my housemates? Does deterrence work (spraying the plants with citrus) or perhaps giving my cat her own plants to nibble on (cat grass, parsley)? Please help!! I want my friends to love my cat as much as I will!

For those who rent, listen to the end of the video for ideas and get started on simple, portable ideas. Also get rid of the human stuff off cupboards, bookcases, table tops and ledges. Put smaller items close so your cat can climb. Look at hardware shops for ideas for non-installed shelves like suction cup shelves.

Hi Jackson! I am a vet tech and I work in an exclusively feline clinic. It is awesome! I am looking at going more into cat behavior though. My goal would be to help my clinic and clients have an easier time at the vet so hopefully we can sedate less and have a better experience with our patients. I saw an online program that is for cat training certification (it is a fairly extensive course lasting about 9 months), and I am curious if there are other programs you would recommend.

I’m (keeping, not fostering) 2 brother kittens (who also had 3 sisters). They were 4 weeks +/- a day when we found them. These little guys barely make a peep. I’m not sure they even know they’re cats. They’re doing we love and doubled in size during the first week. My question is, how do we help them be cats? We want them to have the full cat experience, minus any more days outside. One kitten was alone possibly as long as 4 days with only water he found. They’ll live much longer staying within the safe, loving home we provide than outdoors, but we are considering harness leash walks. We had no luck finding a mom who could teach them the ways of the cat or even be a wet nurse. They only know bottle feedings from me and small dishes of mostly formula mixed with kitten mousse or pâté. They were loosely scattered in a local park. We believe the mom got hit by a car while hiding them. Updates from family home of the mom were she hid them once, but raccoons got one. She possibly lost a fight with the raccoons?

How do you do catification that uses accessibility for senior cats? Do you have advice or examples of accessible designs for catification that are fun? I can think of ramps that could be accessible, but I was hoping there might be more options to use besides only ramps.
My cat struggles with jumping because she has a bad limp from arthritis (I’ve taken her to the vet - we’ve done multiple x-rays at different times, medication, supplements, adding pet stairs around the house).

    Hey Jackson.
    My friend owns two cats.
When its feeding time she has to put the food bowl of one of them HIGH up on a shelf and the other bowl down low on the floor.
Shelf cat is pretty agile and can get up there to eat but floor cat is thicc so she can't get up there and beat her up to steal the food. (she would, if she could)
The issue is: Floor cat will scratch and bite the owner every time its feeding time as if to say "GIMMY DE FUD!"
How do we get floor cat to chill out during feeding time? What's the solution?
Should she feed the cats in separate rooms?
I've recommended some of your videos to her. Do you have a video on overprotective feeders that we can watch? Hopefully we can figure this out together.

sit down some time by the pole with some treats, get the cat to sniff the pole, give the cat a treat. Get the cat to put their paws on the pole, give them a treat. Mess around with a toy or laser pointer a bit until they get their claws on the pole, give them a treat. Do that last step a few times until they associate claws+post=treat, then they'll start scratching. Do variable reinforcement for longest-lasting behavioral modifications.

Dear Mr Galaxy my cat is lovely she’s a teacup Persian and she doesn’t like to play much with a toy on a string but she loves to chase a ball if I roll them across the floor. She even does it herself when I go to bed or if she’s very playful she’ll bring it back by tapping it back across the room. Is this suitable play time for her or do I need to incorporate other things?

I have limited floor space in my small apartment; so I would love to be able to optimize the use of vertical space. But because my apartment is rented, any adaptation involving drilling holes in the walls is out. I am slightly stumped on what I can do to fully catify my apartment for my “tree cat”, Kiyomi.
But at least there is *some* ! With my poor first two cats, as a child and then a teenager / young adult, I knew nothing about catification. No proper toys, no spaces they could take ownership of; no wonder Tiffany went a bit stir-crazy and started pouncing people’s ankles. THIS time I did my due diligence and researched a bit before taking up cat parenthood again.

I recently made the decision to give away a very beloved cat. And my heart is hurting. I’ve been crying all night. He’s my father’s cat, I recently moved to Vegas. And he already as 2 cats & I moved in with my one female cat Mimi. My dad’s male cat (Ozzy) was very dominant & I tried taking all the correct steps to help them get along. Some days were good but others were bad. Well, today was extremely bad. Ozzy attacked Mimi & made her bleed. Then attacked her again earlier this evening. Not too long after I moved in he bit my ankle & I had puncture wounds I needed to get treated in Urgent Care. Today was the final straw. I feel horrible. I feel like I failed as a cat lover. I literally tried EVERYTHING I could but Ozzy is just way too dominant & can get very aggressive. But at the same time he’s a sweetheart who loves cuddles & love. He clearly needs to be the only cat in someone’s home. I wish you were available to help. He’s not gone yet, but I’m unsure what my father is going to do tomorrow & it’s worrying me. The tears keep coming. I wish I could’ve done things better.
