I started out with parakeets I still have 4 . Then I got interested in cocktail I did research and found out they can be friends with parakeets. So now I have 2 my mom asked one day when she was visiting if they were a mistake to get I said no . I love them she is not a big bird fan
My first birds were parakeets, too. Birds, in general, are just not for everyone (I understand why). But to us, they are fun and adorable little companions. ❤️
As long as the ink on the newspaper is non-toxic and they didn't actually eat a bunch of it, it should be safe for your birds. I'm not sure which country you are from, but here in the US the ink is safe. If you really want to make sure, you could try using unprinted newspaper or cage liners made for birds. Also, offering them a variety of toys they can shred and activities can help.
Cons of cockatiel: ● they smell bad (if you don't wash them often its worse) ● they like biting things and could mess books if they get the chance ● they crap every 10mins depending on their age and its difficult to prevent it everytime (sometimes you find poop on you and don't even know when it happened, even if its small and not too difficult to clean) ● they can still bite you like any bird ● they need a lot of time (its probably not even worth getting just one because of all the time it needs, make more sense getting more birds and play togheter) ● they often swing their plumage and lose small dust that can irritate, if you are allergic to dust or have breathing problems in closed spaces it can be an issue for some peoples. ● They are going to make noise, if you live in a small house it can be a problem. ● They try to eat every new thing they find and could die by doing that. - Obviously this all is considering you get cockatiels that get out of the cage everyday -
These are all def true, although personally I like the smell of my cockatiel and somehow I literally have a magical prediction skill to almost always manage to get my cockatiel over a perch for him to poop so it doesn’t get on me 😂😂 also, my lovely boy has never once tried to bite anybody, even from the first day we got him, and even when we are at the vet. I know this is not everyone’s experience but we got extremely lucky and I love my cockatiel so much!
Just found your channel...love. HUGE question......I have 7 month old green cheek conure......I take him to our hunting cabin, cold weather is here now and we have a butane wall mounted heated.......are they safe for birds?? I've read a bunch...some say that butane is ok and hasn't hurt their birds however other sites so it's a big no no. I need help. I keep Cricket (conure) in a different room than heater and cover cage at night but I need to keep him warm somehow, without killing him....that would kill me...I've done up and fell in love with the lil feathered dude. Please help!!
Hi and welcome to the channel! About using butane heaters near birds, it's risky because they can release carbon monoxide, which is harmful to both birds and humans. If it's your only option, I'd make sure the area is well-ventilated. A safer alternative would be an oil-filled radiator. For additional source of heat, you could try getting something like K&H bird warmer for their cage (if you search "K&H Pet Products Snuggle-Up Bird Warmer" it should show up). But, of course, it's a good idea to check with an avian vet for the best advice for Cricket. Stay safe and give Cricket a little hello from us! 🐦❤️
Thank you tons for getting back to me. When we are at camp I decided to just keep him in another room with door closed with electric heater. I havento check often to make sure it isn't stuff in room and kinda control temp....he seems to be doing OK with that. He LOVES the camp, lots of kids around which means lots of attention for him....his favorite thing....lol

I have a 2 parrots
I put the newspapers down, but they bit and tore the newspapers to shreds. Is there a possibility that it could poison or indigest them?

Those are all valid concerns. I don't find their smell bad, though. 🤷♀️
