Stole my comment I have had the best luck shooting prairie storm 2 3/4 5’s (the 3” were no good.) I have a puffer jacket and a cheap Costco rain jacket in my pack for days like those if the wind would have picked up you’d have been headin for the truck. Good stuff brotha
How come you are dog-less? I had no idea you could hunt Huns and Chucker without a good bird dog. But you really did great! Nice hunt. 👍 I'm looking for a german shorthair pointer now.
I will also be looking for a dog in the near future. Hoping to have one figured out before next season. But yes! Absolutely can hunt chukar and Huns without a dog
Good stuff! Noticed you have a lot of cripples and a few lost last video and this. #6 will solve that problem, those 7.5s are just too small for chukar, I learned the hard way
I’ve been going back and forth on 7.5 and 6. I honestly like 7.5 more. I’ll have to do some patterning to see. The birds I’ve lost this year are more about knowing what situations you can and can’t shoot a bird, like in the opener I shot 2 over a rim where I couldn’t see them land. I won’t be doing that again.
@@in_season_outdoors Heres a little tip. Patterning isn't going to help 7.5s kill birds. Look up a shot ballistic chart and compare 7.5s to 6s and 5s. You'll see that at 20 yards 7.5s have already dropped velocity below that of 6s. even with a 30 FPS higher velocity at the muzzle. And 6s will have higher energy at all yardages. #5 higher than 6s. It doesnt matter to the chukar how many times you hit it, its how many times you hit with something that will kill it. And when you hit at 40 yards and dont drop it, you have enough let to kill at 60 on a second shot. We tested 7.5s 20 years ago. 4 guys. 3 day hunt. One day we all used 7.5s. 2 days either 6s or 5s. We all commented that we had far more cripples with 7.5s. We killed 96 birds in 3 days so pretty fair assessment. This was all with retrievers by the way. Looks like Winchester makes a1330FPS load with 1 1/4oz of 6s.
Nice, this good info, I’ve never looked at the ballistic charts on any of my shells before. I’d be interested to see it now, I know a lot of guys really like 6s but I have a pile of 7.5s to
I hunted chukar and huns without a dog once. Chasing a bird on the run and they can run. The dog breed I picked was the Gordon Setter. This is her second year and she points out bird. No matter what breed you get. Get a GPS collar makes it more fun.
Seems like chukar culture, the original first TH-cam channel that featured chukar hunting has a video called rainy day chukar. No dog kinda anti climatic.
Nice video! Great scenery. I personally like using 5 shot.

Thats a killer spot dude! loved the video and good luck for the rest of the season man
Thank you, yeah it’s been a good year for birds so far. Good luck to you as well!
Nice work without a dog. I will say you show why I enjoy hunting with a dog. But, great work by you.
Thank you!

You certainly can hunt them without a dog, doesnt mean you should?

Fair enough and appreciate that you’re testing and being conscientious about it!

The things we take for granted when you have a dog, nice track and retrieve #tenacious 😉
I know man, dogs make for an great hunt. I hunted with my folks dog last week and it was awesome but back to the dogless grind for now
@@in_season_outdoors if you're ever in southern Idaho and need a hunting buddy with a dog hit me up
I’ll keep that in mind, you have a instagram?
sheesh beautiful landscape, nevada?
Not Nevada, but lots of folks tell me about good bird hunting down that way. Maybe some day
Good video and good effort. You do quite well for not having a dog. What gopro do you have and what settings are you using
Thanks! I have the 9, using it on 4k, 60 fps, wide angle it’s been a good little camera so far
Hello friend, I just discovered your channel. I subscribed and follow with pleasure. I wonder how you put the camera on your head?
GoPro camera accessories
@@in_season_outdoors Can you produce content with shooting accessories and mounting styles?
