- I had started to play around with a video editing program. I am a big fan of both Star Wars and Robotech/Macross. So, I decided to put the two together and this is what I came up with. Now, most of the video is from Macross: DYRL? since I ddin't want to go thru each one of the episodes looking for particular scenes... too much work.

These cartoons were what got me into Japanese animation in the first place. Worlds apart from western cartoons of the time. Real stories, good characters (sometimes) and a measure of respect for the intelligence of the audience that nothing else had. So good.
Also much better than most contemporary anime that seem utterly nonsensical with cheap looking characters like Kimetsu No Yaiba (Demon Slayer).
The quality here is still amazing. 1980’s Japanese Animation and it’s still more than passable today. The use of the SW audio just amplifies the scene as a whole. Please let other people do this!

Your attention to detail for syncing the sound effects is pretty good here. Engines matched engine noises, weapons matched weapons fire, etc. I'd say you had a successful experiment here with the media used.

It's actually amazing how appropriate star wars sounds suit this so much
LOL, the John Williams soundtrack actually works well with this.
There's no replacing the orig Macross sfx though--especially the 55mm gunpod sound--those are the greatest! :-P
Good job on the editing! I'm a big fan of DYRL and its weird to see it with the Star Wars music and soundtrack, but you really did a good job combining the two, and you definitely have some editing skills. Keep up the good work!

im amazed how well all the starwars music and sound effects blend in. if you'd never seen either macross or starwars youd think this was how its supposed to be. Two thick thumbs up :3

sorry the starwars music and sound do this move a disservice . but thank you for the video .. when the S.D.F.1 comes home and the invid get kicks off the earth and the recall of the S.D.F.4 from the other side of Alpha Centauri . it was such a epic book and movie ..

EXCELLENT job with this! This is how a remastering of an older series /movie should be done!! No massive changes, just adding enough subtleties to actually complement the original!

I recall seeing an English dubbed version of this when I was younger, but since then I've heard it was only in Japanese... though I'm confident I saw it with English dubbing!

YOU'VE KILLED. THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE SOUNDTRACK FOR THIS MOVIE CAN'T BE REPLICATED USING STAR WARS SOUND EFFECTS! There's is s reason why this version of Macross is different from the version used as a source for Robotech. Even though they both shared a common source, their sound effects could be used an changed to be adopted for Japanese or American audiences. Battle sounds an explosions where kept by Carl Macek. Of course dialogue and music changed not only for Ronotech but also for the other 2 series (Southern Cross and the new generation) What you're showing here is part of the Japanese Movie call Super Dimension Macross "Do you Remember Love" which has noting to do with Robotech.

the main reason is cost. most major movie studios aren't willing to invest the millions of dollars it would take to make a decent movie. they don't feel that there is significant audience to justify making a movie. w/o a big budget, it would look like crap, who wants to watch that?

Which Star Wars movie was this taken from? Maybe one of the SW animated series? More info please! You'd almost think this was taken from Robotech and SW special effects and music were dubbed over it, but that would be utterly stupid of course.
@FLJBeliever1776 no the Macross:DYRL has no english dub...but the classic SDF:Maxross series did :) oh and the alternate Macross II:Lovers again movie also had an english dub
@powerone1 I'm sure Studio Nu is aware of that. So where the people behind BSG, Starwars, Startrek, and about 98% of the space movies shows and cartoons out there. The point is, silence is kinda boring. BTW, there is no smoke, fire or laser beams (visible beam) in space either, but its dull without such effects.

@Seirra54 Can't say with 100% certainty, but I believe these are [mostly] taken from the soundtrack to "The Empire Strikes Back." I'd say you can't go wrong if you started there. Hope this helps.

actually robotech is comprised of Macross so its really Macross with Star Wars.

@FLJBeliever1776 You are right, there was an English dub but they changed the name of it to "Clash of the Bionoids". They ended up cutting a lot out of the original and the voice actors were pretty bad.
Picked it up at the comic book convention in Las Vegas. Was confused on why there was a differences by the original arts to Robotech.
ok why did my comment comout as a mins 2 its a great clip and you did do a hell of a good job mixing them some one tell me why it came up as i mins 2 because i did not put that in there
@Castlevanius I still say I saw an English dubbing, but the problem is I would have been about 7 or 8 when I saw it and thus I can't remember anything beyond that!
So frustrating I know what I saw, yet everything points differently!

macross is not the same as robotech, macross is an anime and robotech is a cartoon.

Harmony Gold has exclusive distribution rights to Macross, not that they do anything with those rights anymore. We were hoping that would end last year when their contract expired, but for some unknown reason it was renewed.
@FLJBeliever1776 copyright thingy between Harmony Gold/Big West that's why...either import it over or download the series.ive seen both Macross & Robotech,though they have the same origins (meaning from the original Studio Nue/Big West) id like to think they explored the lore in its own different way.i understand the need to compare between the two but i like to enjoy em as they are...however i enjoy the Macross saga more. (i watch Genesis Climber, SDC:Southern Cross in its own separate series)

+Freedom! Producciones The Macross soundtrack was awful last time I heard it. The first battle scene music is a snails pace to the action. Robotech was a much better action packed soundtrack. Even the the SDF1 is slamming through Dolsa's command Mountion it's same SFX over and over and over again.
Music is a constant Janpanese video game, and anime problem they rarely get it right.
When did they get it right?

The point of an intro is to hype you up not make you feel like magic girl transformation .

But then you like Robotech, not Macross.
Macross isin't about kill the enemy and be a champ saying a catch phrase like "take that on your face, zentradi scum".
If you love Robotech, then use Robotech material, not a Macross movie, that have LOVE in the title, and later say that Macross has "magic girl" music.
+Freedom! Producciones well that's funny cause the Macross and the STF1 from robotech look just alike and from what I remember from watching the first Macross movie UN Spacy corporation was allied with the Zentradi think I spelled that correctly.
But anyway I grew up watching both series I think Macross was a future spin off there was vids of Min Mae songs in the movie. but there has been so many Macross type cross over
shows over the years. But regardless of weather they are connected or not I love both series.

SDF Macross is from 1982.
SDF Macross Do You Remember Love? is this movie from 1984.
In 1984, Harmony Gold "buy" the rights to Tatsunoko Productions to "use" the animation from SDF Macross TV series, and "create it" that thing call Robotech.
The same animation, but different story, different characters, different plot, and different music.
Robotech is a kind a Michael Bay's Transformers (2007)
It's about winning the war, and be cool.
SDF Macross is like Roman Polanski's The Pianist (2002).
And talk about the tragedy of war, the understanding between 2 races.
So, you can like the 2 stories.
But you can't mix them.

well the deatil with macross was better then robotech but macross story line had to many holes in it where robotech the only hole is what happens after season 2 and season 3 wich is only 6 months the other hole is between season 1 and 2 but all that is about is bring the earth back to life by planting trees and stuff lol
