So many people think only of Chicago as a "horn band", leaving out the fantastic talent of Terry Kath, who deserves mention with all of the guitar gods of his era.

THIS is the track that proves Jimi Hendrix was right when he told Chicago "you guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's BETTER THAN ME!"

Great true quote and then he invited them to go on tour with him.. the rest is history

There was 3 vocalists I think in the band, Robert Lamm, keyboardist, Terry Kath, guitarist and Peter Cetera bass. They had a great sound and Terry was just a great guitarist, loved them, specially the first half dozen albums.

Lead vocals by keyboard player Robert Lamm, background vocals by bass player Peter Cetera singing "I do love you" alternating between left and right channels.
On the same debut double LP the closing track is "Liberation", an almost 15 minute jam with the only line sung by guitarist Terry Kath, who sang lead on the opening track "Introduction". His one line in Liberation makes sense when put into context with the lyrics of Introduction addressing the listeners.

"Chicago Transit Authority", was their 1st & best!!!! Double album of Badassery BEFORE becomming the undisputed leaders of GIRLY music as Chicago.... (Don't know what happened but wasn't good). Wore this album out!! Was so good I bought it on CD when they came out!!!!

Same here, I bought it in 1971, and I have it on CD now too - and I shared your disappointment with their later girly pop music efforts. At this time they were Hendrix's support band and there is a video on TH-cam somewhere where they talk about meeting him.

On this song keyboardist Robert Lamm was the lead vocal. I love all the vocals and they fit together nicely.

The only album by Chicago I listen to. So good and it's much because of Terry Kath......like their fisrt LP was more like his record and it was much space for his guitar. Not that much jam I think......horns have to be arranged, the singing and more.
If you want to her pure jamming then you should listen to Cream and the song Spoonful from the double LP Wheels of Fire from the year before Chicago Transit Authority.
