- Dr. Cornel West recently announced his candidacy for President of the United States and it was revealed that he's married to a White Iranian woman. Some are claiming that Black women are mad because "a White woman got a good black man." Soooo, this video is making the case that Dr. Cornel West is not a good Black man.

Affirmative action has really backfired on us with racist whites uplifting the fools in our community, and walking right by our many very intelligent Black men. I saw them do that in corporate America.
Thankfully, I grew up in a household, surrounded by good BM including my father and uncles. I have always felt that if someone chose to be with another race, it was not really a loss because that was going to be their choice. I saw him speak at Harvard Divinity School in the mid 90s. There was a great deal of excitement in the room. I was primed from reading Race Matters. He at times whooped and holler like an old time Baptist preacher. But something about it rang false. Like he was performing, not speaking or preaching genuinely.
He spoke at my God daughter middle school graduation and something Abt him didn't sit right with me.But I feel that way Abt TD Jakes so could just be me.

I remember those clown shows. Somehow West seemed to feel President Obama’s success somehow took something away from his own class of success as a black man. Smiley seemed to surmise that the President owed him something. Petty. Whenever we have a “first” in our community, there are always people who deem themselves a place of significance in that person’s life. Smiley had not reached that class level in the community. Dr. West wants to see himself as an important activist elder leader in the nation, but so far he has attained status of black academic who can bridge the gap between black older middle class African Americans and white academia. I think the value of that role has changed for the nation. But I still like the man. For our generation ( blacks who were actively a part of the Civil Rights era), his success was significant in showing what could be achieved by black college bound students. That era has passed.

I've read his books and have followed his academic career. However, Cornell West is the typical unkept, unshaven, dry-mouthed academic. If anyone has seen the black female professors of most academic circles, they're very well put together. They may be supportive as a peer but most wouldn't be interested in anything more, with Dr. West.

I am a 60-something black woman who was born into the Jim Crow South, whose mother lost her state job because of her affiliation with the CRM. As a child I "did" integration in a private all-white academy, again in the South. While an undergraduate and graduate student at 2 different PWIs, I participated in the revived anti-apartheid movement as well as the canon wars. The canon wars were the precursor to what's now described as "anti-CRT." I have no doubt you will stand by your statement and maintain its moral superiority in the same way white people have maintained their moral superiority over black people, especially black men. However, those in the comment section may disagree.

That was a devastating critique. I grew up in the same town as West in fact we were baptized in the same church. He has oft told the story about going hard in Oak Park, when in fact he grew up in Glenn Elders, where he was bullied out of his lunch money. He attended Kennedy HS, at the time the whitest public HS in Sacramento. I've attended several of his readings and what struck me about the would be President is his soft buttery never fought a fist fight hands. I agree, his enumeration of every societal woe and ethnic grievance next to our ancient black struggle, while nodding to Sly Stone and John Coltrane, is rhetorically tired and silly. He sounds more like a hustler with arthritic pickup lines from the '70s than a philosopher on the pulse of Black America. You are very insightful I appreciate your content, Lady Boule.

Before criticizing Dr. West on his personal problems of being married multiple times, not marrying a black woman. Black people need to stop having children outside of marriage & get their children reading, writing & math on grade level & above. We’re still collectively dumb playing checkers with politics & economics while everyone else is playing chess.

I think all of the points that you made are very "Valid" concerns, as I have always found Dr. West as being a very quirky individual that seems to "Talk" a lot and also, says a lot of "Nothing" then as you laid out some of his Political ambitions, how can he achieve any of those objectives, if he doesn't start by eradicating "Racism" first? As, I do agree that he could have more of an impact on our "Culture" if he were teaching his philosophies at an HBCU as that would seem to have been his best career choice instead, of focusing his talents on "White America" which, is a total contrast to his "Political" talking points as, I have always viewed Dr. West as a walking set of contradictions solely based on pleasing the minds of the collective in American Society.

I am going to say this the most apropos way I can, "Ain't no one checking for Dr. West!" Who cares? I personally don't care who he married🤣.
West will be first to admit that he’s not perfect. His personal choices not to marry a Black woman are not in line with mine. But I respect his commitment to telling the truth about the American empire and its injustices. He’s now walking the talk the by running for president. Even though he won’t win, he’s using his popular platform to raise crucial critiques and solutions. Hopefully enough of us will support his run to help re-build a movement and viable third party.
