  • Well I did it, I squeezed some 37's under my new 2020 Ram Power Wagon and in this video I'll share with you how well they fit, some things I'm going to have to watch out for and I'll also bring you up to date on some other modifications I've been doing... comms, rock sliders, a truck camper and more. #rampowerwagon #overlandrig #truckbuild

Once you relocate your spare you can fill that empty space with a fuel transfer tank. It's about 14 gallons of extra fuel that can be transfered to the main tank with the flip of a switch.

I don’t know how the ad system works on TH-cam, I assume the content creator can set the number. I really appreciate not having four or five ad breaks in a 17 minute video. It’s one of those little things that you don’t really notice but that makes a big difference. I don’t mind ads, it comes with being a cheap skate and not paying for a subscription, but some channels pack a 20 minute video full of them. Thanks for being mindful of that.

I'm a big fan of heavy duty rubber bed mats, even with a Line-X or factory spray-in liner, I use those mats because they prevent things from flying around the bed. I don't have to worry about strapping everything down with those mats, they are so good at keeping things from sliding around. They also protect whatever you put in the bed from being scratched up by the sand paper like finish of bed liner. They also look good and finish things off, easy to clean, and less than $100.

Ah, reminds me of back in the day when I started with my bone stock ‘16 PW. The evolution over the years to what it is today with a Four Wheel Camper in the bed, Thuren suspension and front bumper, WK sliders, custom dual rear swing out bumper, on-board air, comms, navigation, lighting, full locker and sway bar control. All along, it’s been a great truck with 82k on the clock and has done its fare share of exploring some of Arizona and Utah’s more challenging trails.

Another great video Brad. That's a nice vehicle and it's my favorite of the TrailRecon fleet. As far as the spare tire option goes, I would install an upright tire mount in the bed. Yes, it will take up some space, but at least you have the piece of mind of a full size spare.

You should really look in to a bed slide. I’ve had 3 and they are super convenient and useful when using with a topper.
The best brand I’ve had is the “bed rat” by weather guard. Really heavy duty and customizable. You could mount your spare on the slide up front and when needed just pull out the slide and there you go.👍🏼🇺🇸

Hey Brad, the Power Wagon is looking good. In regards to using a full-size spare tire, Expedition One makes a great rear bumper with dual swing out tire carrier set-up for HD Rams. I have had their similar bumper set-up on my JKU for a number of years and has worked out great with no issues. For a less expensive option, AEV makes a vertical bed mounted tire carrier set-up for HD Rams.

Really like the ARE bed cover/cap. I like the side opening windows as well but most likely you will need to stand on the rear tires to reach the floor of the bed from the sides. I am looking at various ARE cap models as well for my 21' Power Wagon. I've had two of their caps, (Z-Series) with their sliding front window and tip out side windows, installed on two different trucks. The ARE product line is outstanding.

Cab roof rack. Would be a great place for spare full size with shovel, jack and air compressor w/tank (lots of fresh air up there). A rack with tall/large sides would also provide mounts for lights. I have the Rambox's on my PW, so a hardtop for the bed is out and this is the setup I'm saving for down the road.

i have rock sliders and it does change the driving dynamic of the truck. that extra weight 12 inches off the ground is notable. you will be fine with extremely careful tire placement, but if you hit those powered steps you'll instantly crush them. loving the wagon vids!! bring that to NOCO for the Overland West and we'll hit kelly flats trail (if it's open this year). that will test your truck going up hill. I prefer co2 tanks also. If go larger though, especially with 37s. Perhaps a 15 or 20lb tank. Mounted vertically so you don't have to unmount it for use (c02 is a liquid of course, so in use it must be upright).
These are great ideas for a power wagon. My first vehicle was a 1980 power wagon i bought used for $1500 in 1987 with 318, winch and warn hubs and two tone orange and white paint. It was awesome! Put aCB with PA outside speaker in grill and you can imagine what fun that was for me at 18 yrs of age, wheeling in the forest mountains of Snohomish Washington and crossing with a best friend for girls on weekends after highschool in the 80s.
I'm getting serious desire to get one of these like what you have. Gotta relive my youth! 😆

Brad as a fellow PW owner, I can’t recommend enough the rear track bar relocation kit that Thuren sells. It raises the attachment side to the axle for the panhard, thereby reducing the lateral movement of the axle through the up and down arc during compression/rebound. Takes the waggy out of the wagon. (You’ll probably notice what feels like bump steer in the wheel during higher speed highway dips, where the truck compresses and then rises back up).

You can run a 35" spare in the normal spare location with the tire aired down somewhat and you may have to modify the heat shield to get it to fit. Given that you carry air and a tire patch kit that should cover you in just about any situation. Just don't over do it if you have to run the 35".

Enjoying watching the progress on your truck. Your Ram is a larger version of what I have. I got a white Tacoma, 4 DR, long bed with black accents and a white shell. I'm running 34's and have the same spare dilemma. I mounted my spare in the bed, on the passenger side in the upright position, in the same orientation as the other 4 tires. It is pushed up against the front (close to cab) of the bed. I really like the framing on your shell, I might have to see if Snugtop has the same option, or I will just have to sell mine and get an ARE. Like you, I hate dust all over my gear. If you haven't realized it yet, dust will still get in. I ended up getting a tailgate sealing kit and I made some mods to the bed to seal it up. Just got back from a week long Death Valley trip and my gear was much cleaner. Keep up the great trail vids!

Hey Brad I have one super simple piece of advice if you haven’t done so already, I have a 2014 2500 Ram w/basically the identical ARE topper and that little black “dust lip” on the rear that keeps the elements out of the bed, go to your local home improvement store and get a pack of those rubber drawer bumpers w/the sticky tape on the back and put them in inside lip where it would touch the paint so it doesn’t rub from wind or trail bumps...otherwise love the video, keep it up and be safe!

You're a Man after my own heart! I have a 2022 Level 2 white and black Power Wagon with 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers and the Amp Research power steps. I also have the S Pod controller for my offroad LED lights and onboard compressor. Next purchase is a radio but I'm probably going to buy an GMRS instead of a Ham....or maybe I'll buy both, who knows?

I actually just traded my Gladiator Rubicon in for a Power wagon last week. ARE topper is already ordered 😁. Running boards are next! I personally will be doing a drawer setup in my bed. Definitely would be interested on the details of your Ham antenna setup. Keep up the good work.

On my PW, I mounted an ARB twin compressor on an aluminum plate and slid it under the rear driver’s side seat. The bolts that held the seat down also secured the plate. The wiring and tubing was run under the carpet and into the hidden compartment then ultimately to their final destination.

What's the final destination the battery?

    • @11362mem
      @11362mem 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@sh0cktim3 the battery for the electrical obviously, and the air tubes to two air ports, one in the front, one in the rear.

I have the same ARE topper on my Chevy ZR2 Bison. My iKamper fits on it great and the ladder has room to spare. 😀

I would check out Carli Suspension. They have high quality suspension systems and components. CJC Offroad is a great retailer. They also have a spare tire solution that mounts to the back and fits a 37" tire.

I jelly Doc !!! What a sweet rig that Power Wagon is only thing I would do is a small cosmetic upgrade that is where the Power Wagon Decal ends at the top of the bed I would carry the stripe all the way across the topper.

Love your channel. Can't afford to have a dedicated overland vehicle for now....may be someday. For those long overland adventures a cabin top mountable carrier for 37 spare and some other things may be an option. I really don't know what I am talking about since have no first hand experience just watching overlanding video.lol😁

My ‘19 has been on 37s for the last 20k miles. No issues. Minor rubbing when turning in a parking lot.

I've been wanting the ram rebel 1500 for awhile now. Wish I had someone like you get into detail about this truck since you know what your talking about and how things work.

Rebel is great truck. Easier to drive and park and better gas mileage. Power wagon kills it for off road stuff. You can get a power wagon to sit 6 people too.

Rig’d Supply Ultraswing is a pretty good spare tire solution. That’s the route I plan to go when I graduate to 37s.

Idea: Mount molle panels on the rails of the topper that way you'll have a complete modular molle storage system all around.
