Congrats for going first with a review and thanks for so much time for fixing all bugs, and sharing them. I think you should mention a great sound system and terrible screen wobble also. Keep up with a great job
for anyone worried about heat being an issue when plugged in - I used a couple of the intel versions (ultra 7 and 9) for a month each. I played with the fan and power settings in g helper so that it would use a lot less power unless I changed power modes. I had very few heating problems with this, except when gaming or whatever. as for being a fingerprint magnet, it is aboslutely true. I'm waiting around for this AMD version to come out in white because that's supposed to be significantly better in that respect.
Luckily I have the white G16 AMD 4070, no fingerprints at all ;) By the way, I had none of the issues, perhaps I got it after you and had all new updates installed. Congratulations for having such a good review so early. Very comprehensive and very skilled. Subscribed you.
Even though this G16 is better in almost every way than the G14 spec wise, the G14 just has something about it that just appeals to more, maybe it’s the design.
@@GamerVsTech imagine if they refreshed it with the new HX chip😮 That would just be soo good. I play alot of league of legends (very cpu dependant), and the only draw back for this laptop is I have to lock fps at 120/144 as the fps kinda is all over the place from 220-100, its stuttery if you dont lock it, but on the G16 amd I can run consistently at 240. The G16 is better but I don’t love it like the G14 lol.
The G14 2024 with 4070/32GB is on a decent sale now for $1699 at BB. For anyone like me wanting the smaller, lighter form factor that’s pretty good. Apparently a few weeks ago it was even down to $1599, but I was too busy to be aware at the time.
Thank you for a fantastic review we've all been waiting for. I've been using the G16 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 and RTX 4080 for a week now. My Time Spy CPU scores consistently range between 11,457 and 11,464 across five tests. I ran all these tests using G-Helper. The best total score was 15,232. I mention this because the CPU score you mentioned in your review for the Intel Core Ultra 9 seems a bit on the low end.
@@GamerVsTech Thanks for your answer. I ran the CPU profile benchmark with G-Helper, and the max threads score was 8,681, a much lower result compared to the AMD CPU.
I’m getting the same computer as you tomorrow theirs really not that much of a difference between the newer model and the older model both are good for very intense complex tasks and projects
Great review. Mine crashed when opening all games but admittedly I’m not as tech savvy as you. I ended up sending it back to the retailer and I’m not sure as to whether get the Intel one as it’s been in the market longer. Overall it was a poor experience - ASUS needs to resolve these as most people won’t know how to fix. A guide on how to fix the issues you faced would be most welcome. 😊
I had the same problem with another ASUS laptop with an RTX 4080 and with any demanding game it would just crash the laptop with 5 minutes and the GPU would be throttling like a jet engine. I did debloat and update everything as you should but I don’t think it up to the user to use a third party program to fix what a manufacturers laptop. it should just work straight out of the box. It’s weird though because my g22 desktop is fire 🔥 but ASUS gaming laptops are hit and miss most of the time.
Hi ! I'm currently looking for a new computer. The thing is I needed something usable for school (not too noisy, decent battery life) and at the same time I want to play a few games (elden rings etc) I was first considering going for an M3 16" mac as everyone seemed to agree but then I discovered the Rog Zephyrus that seemed perfect for my use case: - windows (so I can play games) - good gpu - good cpu - good battery life I can get a G14 with the Ryzen 9 8945HS an RTX 4060 and 32go of ram for 2000 euros. The only downside is the screen size that might be too small (I do data science, currently using a 15" laptop). Then, I stumbled uppon the G16. I can get the AI 9 HX 370 + RTX 4060 for 2500 euros. The bigger screen seems appealing but I'm afraid I would lose battery life and performance. In particular, I saw some people had power issue with the new G16, while the G14 I want to get has already been ""tested"" by lots of users. I know the G14 is pretty silent when used for basic multitasking, I have no clue about the G16 Furthermore, 2500 euros is the price range of mac M3 so I would be a bit sad to pay that price and get something worse than a mac. My plan is to keep the laptop for at least 5-6 years. Do you have any opinion on this ? Considering the G16 was not perfect out of the box, maybe it'll be less durable than the G14? Thanks PS: thanks for the very detailed review! You channel definitely deserves more exposure :D PS2: We have only white ones in France, it's impossible to get the black one lol
@@yanndev9450 don’t worry about battery life. The g16 beats the g14 because the battery is much bigger. Although the screen is larger, the g16 does a great job with battery life. You can really feel the performance of the AI CPU over the 8945hs. It really depends on portability since you are only planning on getting the 4060 models. There really isn’t a huge jump in performance between the 4060 and 4070. Definitely go with the 32gb RAM no matter what especially since you are a student. The 4060 is enough for gaming. Portability comes down to the size and what you are willing to bring around. Obviously the g14 is more portable. For a 14 inch laptop I do not find it to be too small. I still believe the G14 is one of the greatest laptops of all time because of how much they pack into a small frame. The screen is amazing on both these devices. However, once you use the g16 it’s hard to go back to the g14 because of the bigger screen. I don’t really see a huge difference in weight to me. It doesn’t bother me. If you have a nice bag or backpack to carry a 16 inch laptop then great. It’s still very thin and not thick at all. But overall the g16 is amazing. Battery life is wildly good. Screen size is a huge plus. My recommendation to you to get the max performance is if you get either the g14 or g16 install ghelper instead of the ASUS armoury crate software. You’ll get a better performing machine. Also, go grab the small silicone laptop prop to get better airflow while working on a flat surface. It’s not necessary but it helps with thermals. I’ll be doing a video on this shortly. Hope this helps.
@@GamerVsTech thank you very much for the detailed answer! I'll go see the g14 in a shop tomorrow to know if 14" is enough or not. If it's too small to game on, I might go for the g16. Also, the fact that the screen of the g14 is 3k while the one on the g16 is 2.5k makes almost no difference right ? Anyway, if the battery life and cooling is better on the g16 ai, I'll probably go for it !! (And return it to Asus if it's not as good as expected) However, is the G16 as silent as the G14 ? Aren't the triple fans messing things up? Finally, I own a razer laptop stand (and I have an external keyboard), I guess this will do the job for the airflow ? Thanks again :)
Firstly great review! Good catch on the 2nd PCIE slot being 4.0 x2, it sucks.. but a neat work around is to buy the cheapest Gen 4 drive and then you know you're pinned at 4GB/s, sometimes it works out cheaper than fancy Gen 3 SSD's. Note on the runtime error I've had that on a Lenovo laptop before, it's definitely corrupted Windows or faulty unit. Mediatek WiFi card can be flaky sometimes while online gaming, could try swap for Intel card? I wonder how much G-Helper would help with power-mode/power issue? Thanks for beta testing this laptop for everyone.
Just thought I'd point out I saw that this (G16 GA605) and the new P16 are very similar and it's also got a secondary SSD that runs at only PCIE 4.0 x2. So the motherboard might be only using x2 lanes for it and can't be changed via software.
I bought this exact model just now 🎉 Your review helped a ton making a decision between so many other candidates. Ended up saving me a lot of money actually. Thanks! ❤
@@GamerVsTech The only version available now here in Portugal is the top HX370, 32gb, 4070 and 2tb nvme but it costs 3.000 euros directly from Asus (I hate these trade wars, 2.300 dollars is the equivalent to 2.100 euros). I was hoping to get the 32gb, 4060, 1tb version, since I almost don't game anymore, it would be for productivity and video editing tasks manly. Do you believe such a version will take long to get to the market? Cheers
The second m.2 is PCIe 4.0 but only has 2 lanes (4x2) They likely just ran out of lanes. The number of lanes should not impact the amount of storage, just transfer speeds to the second slot. Did the 2TB show up in the second slot? As long as you use an ssd supporting 4x2 operation, it should work fine, albeit slower than 4x4.
Just discovered this channel. Great video, new sub 💪 On the SSD, would a 4TB, 850x work if I swapped it into the main slot? Or is it hard capped at 2TB?
@@GTX260M that’s where it gets a little confusing. Asus told me it’s 2tb max. But I did get 3 tb to work. However the second ssd slot is half speed. Idk if it does have full speed capabilities and can be unlocked through a bios update. ASUS techs said no. But I’m not sure if I believe them because they were wrong before and gave me bad information. For now, I’d say drop a 2TB ssd in the main slot to get the fastest speed.
@@GTX260M hard to say. You can test it. I will eventually. Just wanted to get the review out. Spent 2 whole days swapping ssds 6 times and dealing with incompetent ASUS techs.
@GamerVsTech that is really frustrating, sounds like they had no idea what they were talking about. Never heard of capping NVMe capacity unless they did something weird in BIOS.
I'm considering purchasing the g16 with the 4090 configuration. It sounds like you spoke to the m.2 ssd's pretty well which is what I'm concerned about before I purchase. Can you please confirm that each pcie slot can have up to a max of 2 TB each? Is that what I understood from you when speaking through that topic on your video?
@@tomhaffey8204 the AMD version of the G16 does not come in a 4090 version. Only the Intel versions from earlier releases. I cannot speak for the Intel g16s. But this AMD G16 can support a maximum of 2TB total in both slots. This is what was officially told to me from ASUS. The second slot runs at half speed. However, I was able to get 3tb total working. 2TB in main slot and 1TB in second. The second slot is still half speed.
I went with the older one because of the more powerful gpu I went with the rtx 4080 version I was going to go with the new one but I didn’t want the lower end version of the rtx 4070 gpu
Another review of a similar Asus AI HX 370 Laptop (maybe proArt P16?) said that the bottom right screw on the laptop was not a regular screw it was a lifter that does not leave the backplate and so you needed to undo all the other screws otherwise the bottom right one would bend the backplate!
Would you say that this laptop could be great both for gaming and university, especially engineering. Because it’s something pretty useful for school so I think this piece could be a great compromise.
I can confirm that on current BIOS of v306, this laptop doesn't support 4TB SSD. Just tried to swap 4TB WD SN850X on the main slot, however couldn't detect on BIOS. I have 2 of these SSDs, both failed to be detected. What a waste of time. I believe this is only BIOS limitation. Pretty disappointed that this kind of simple thing isn't supported out of the box.
Hi I’m about to buy this laptop and this will be my first gaming laptop may I ask do we still need those antivirus or firewall like in the older days for these? Thanks
Awesome review! I’m recently picked up a 2024 G16 Intel 16gb/4070 for $1599. I love it, but since the AMD refresh is so new, I’m considering shelling out the $ for it. My primary use case is Chrome browsing + playing OSRS, a very casual non resource intensive game. I’m really considering returning my current G16 and getting either: - 2024 G16 AMD 32gb/4070 - 2024 G16 Intel 32gb/4080, I know this is overkill but I’m looking into it because of vapor chamber Thermals and efficiency are most important to me because the laptop will almost exclusively be used for lap/couch gaming. Which do you suggest?
@@bradg739 they both get hot to the touch. The vapor chamber will do slightly better and keeping the internals cooler. But since you play non demanding games the AMD version might be your best bet. In battery this thing is super cool. Plugged in on now intensive games it’s not bad either. Hardware thermals are great on the AMD version. It just slightly higher than vapor chamber models. Now that being said, the AMD version will be out in the vapor chamber model. But it’s very hard to find currently and it’s their most expensive model. Hope this helps.
@@GamerVsTech When will the AMD version be out in vapor chamber? I thought the AMD variants only went up to a 4070 at most… which lacks the vapor chamber.
@@bradg739 so per ASUS’s website a vapor chamber is available. However, it’s very non specific. They allude to the higher models having vapor chambers. I cannot confirm this because I haven’t been able to get my hands on one. But their highest spec model is supposed to have it. As soon as I can confirm it I’ll let everyone know.
Thanks for the great review! Thoughts on whether it is worth returning my G16 4090 2024 version for this? Just got it and wondering if saving $600 is worth the GPU diff.
I just noticed something weird with my brand new out of the box P16 Zen 5. it is running Windows version 24H2 Build 26100.1457 This is the pre-release insiders version of Windows 11. I have only used the ASUS cloud recovery to wipe the laptop.
I recently purchased an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 with an AMD processor 4070 RTX for both university and gaming use. I wanted to check if my FPS in CS2 is normal. I'm getting an average of 90-130 FPS with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2560x1600. I have 4x MSAA, 16x anisotropic filtering, and the rest of the settings on high. Is this performance within the expected range or it should be much higher??
Could you please use DLSS instead of FSR on Nvidia chips in future (saw that in Cyberpunk), may be it will make a bit better fps + better image quality I dont mean frame gen, the upscaling only
Some questions I have: 1. If I am needing to have a laptop by August 19th (so really soon) for college (and gaming), would you recommend getting this laptop now or get the G14? Or do you know of other laptops that may be better options? 2. Also, is the Asus rog zephyrus g16 with the intel cpus and the 4080 good/battery efficient/thermally cool? I was worried about Intel CPUs after the issues with raptor lake and raptor lake refresh, so I'm hesitant about anything intel tbh because of those instability issues. 3. I'd ideally want something that basically works out-of-the-box, but I can do some technical tweaks to fix issues if necessarily (though I'd prefer not to need to do so lol). 4. Lastly, do you think a 14" or 16" laptop would be better for college and gaming, including taking the laptop to classes?
@@riptidegaming06 this is a toss up. The G16 didn’t work nearly as good as the G14 out of the box. But, if you follow my fixes you’ll be able to get it running great and avoid the time wasted that I had. I cannot say how soon you get the laptop. Depends on your location. I like overnighting my electronics to get the faster. The intel is simply not nearly as good for gaming on the igpu on battery which is what you would want to do if you want max battery life by lowering tdp to let’s say something like 17 or 20 watts. Intel simply cannot perform like AMD at those wattages. Intel is hotter. Lastly 16 inch screen is beautiful. I definitely prefer the size over the 14. The 14 is a little more portable. But if you can squeeze the extra 2 inches in your backpack then go for the 16. It’s more powerful, bigger and stronger for around the same money. Keep in my the out of the box issues I had. But they can be fixed and I’m sure ASUS will smooth all that out soon.
I have a G14 4070 but with 16g ram, and the G16 with 4080, both light for their size and equipment, I would say the m8ght be better for working on, but carrying around a extra pound all day might make a difference to, if you really want portability to there is the X flow 13, under 3 lbs not oled but still nice screen that can be flipped and used like a tablet, and weaker all around specs.
@@GamerVsTech So, I got an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403UI (2024, Gray, 8945hs, 4070 Mobile (Laptop GPU)), and it's mostly good, but there's some issues. I'm having some DPC latency issues (high DPC latency) and also, the trackpad towards the bottom if I lightly apply and remove pressure (not necessarily enough for a full click), it makes a sound (kind of like a tick, click, or rattle (I don't know if it could actually be called a rattle though)). So, what are your thoughts on the DPC latency and trackpad issues my G14 is having?
Good review. Question though, does it get too hot to have on the lap just when running chrome and youtube and stuff? Or mainly on loads? Like I mentioned on last video, on the charger and under light loads it was still way too hot on the bottom with my zenbook 370. For some reason I thought this one had a vapor chamber instead of heatpipes? Is that why the G14 is better? Man if they made some of this stuff just a tad thicker. I recently got a galaxy book 4 ultra, wouldn't think of it as a gaming machine, but ultra 9 and a 4070 with a vapor chamber, it's a bit thicker but man does it run cool, cpu thermals and chassis!
Nice and cool (tiny bit of heat) when browsing. Unplugged gaming it’s not that bad. It’s only when plugged in that it gets hot hot. The Vapor chamber model isn’t out yet. That I know of. Totally agree with you.
All i want is a decent looking laptop without the gamer aesthetic while still having enough power to make something in Unreal Engine. Why are these limited to only a 4070?

As I said in the video if you lowered the resolution to 800 1080 etc and lowered the tdp to something like 18 or 20 watts you can get even much longer battery life.
Great video! I just got the maxed out 2tb version of this and am facing a couple of issues out of the box (different from yours) and I’m wondering if anyone can help me out? I can’t seem to turn on HDR or toggle turbo mode from armour crate. For both, it says the option is not available in this model, which I found suspicious. Any tips? Thanks!
@@sarthakbansal4850 huh? That’s odd. When you go into windows display settings, under advanced display it should say HDR support. All models have HDR displays. Under that tab you can also turn on HDR from there. To enable turbo the laptop needs to be plugged in first to toggle it on.
Is the g14 with the older 780m fine for gaming on ipgu 1200p for all games? My main concerns are if it get too hot, or if games dont look nice at 1200p, or dont run at good fps. It would be nice to use something portable to play in bed. And would you say the G16 amd is better than G14 in this regard currently? or is G14 still nicer overall playing in bed on igpu
@@mobeen369 I think the g14 is build a little bit. But in regards to igpu performance, you’ll get more fps at 1200p with the g16 for sure. Since we are talking about igpu s, the 890m really takes the cake here. More power efficient, faster, and more powerful.

@@mobeen369 sorry the g14 is built a little better given the size. The g16 is bigger making the bottom of plate thin and a little more flexible. Out of the 2, it’s really hard to pick between the 2. The AMD Ryzen 370 versions only gives you the option of 4060 or 4070 gpu (with triple fan setup, no vapor chamber). The vapor chamber is only available with 4080 and 4090 gpu's (only with Intel Ultra 9 chip, not AMD). I wish there was an AMD 370 with 4080 or 4090 option. Best of both worlds for cpu+gpu.

@@Zolemn it was the same under the parameters that I did. Remember when I was gaming on the dedicated GPU I had things set to 28 W using 1200 P. And with a massive screen like this that uses a lot of power. If you lower the resolution lower the wattage, you will get much better battery life.
@@GamerVsTech very interesting, would never expect that. Sooo there's no point in using the iGPU? If dGPU > iGPU and 2hrs = 2hrs. Is there more variables to the story?
@@Silversurfer9821 you can totally tweak the igpu for even more battery life. Remember I had it at 1200 and at 28 watts. ASUS is always implementing cpu boost in some way. The G16 is better but I don’t love it like the G14 lol.
For me it's the keyboard size. Fits perfect on the 14, very few empty spaces. The g16 has too much empty spaces to me
The G14 2024 with 4070/32GB is on a decent sale now for $1699 at BB. For anyone like me wanting the smaller, lighter form factor that’s pretty good. Apparently a few weeks ago it was even down to $1599, but I was too busy to be aware at the time.

I was waiting for this video.
Hi ! I'm currently looking for a new computer. The thing is I needed something usable for school (not too noisy, decent battery life) and at the same time I want to play a few games (elden rings etc)
I was first considering going for an M3 16" mac as everyone seemed to agree but then I discovered the Rog Zephyrus that seemed perfect for my use case:
- windows (so I can play games)
- good gpu
- good cpu
- good battery life
I can get a G14 with the Ryzen 9 8945HS an RTX 4060 and 32go of ram for 2000 euros.
I know the G14 is pretty silent when used for basic multitasking, I have no clue about the G16
Furthermore, 2500 euros is the price range of mac M3 so I would be a bit sad to pay that price and get something worse than a mac.
My plan is to keep the laptop for at least 5-6 years. Do you have any opinion on this ? Considering the G16 was not perfect out of the box, maybe it'll be less durable than the G14?
Thanks
PS: thanks for the very detailed review! You channel definitely deserves more exposure :D
PS2: We have only white ones in France, it's impossible to get the black one lol
(And return it to Asus if it's not as good as expected)
However, is the G16 as silent as the G14 ? Aren't the triple fans messing things up?
Finally, I own a razer laptop stand (and I have an external keyboard), I guess this will do the job for the airflow ?
Thanks again :)

Firstly great review! Good catch on the 2nd PCIE slot being 4.0 x2, it sucks.. but a neat work around is to buy the cheapest Gen 4 drive and then you know you're pinned at 4GB/s, sometimes it works out cheaper than fancy Gen 3 SSD's.

Some questions I have:
G14 bruh, I have it and it's perfect.
