  • CONSTRUCTION OF LOICHANGAMATAK - LODWAR - NADAPAL/NAKODOK HIGHWAY
    In 2017 the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) rolled out the upgrading of the International trunk road from Loichangamatak - Lodwar - Nadapal/Nakodok after formal signing of the various contract agreements with international contractors.
    The section of the road is an important link along the Biharamalo - Mwanza - Musoma - Sirari - Isebania - Kitale - Lodwar - Lokichogio - Nakodok - Juba Transport Corridor of the East African Community’ Regional Trunk Road Network.
    The Loichangamatak - Lodwar - Nadapal Road, whose completion is expected in 2021, is jointly funded by the World Bank and the Government of Kenya under the Eastern Africa Regional Transport, Trade and Development Facilitation Project (EARTTDFP).
    The ratified components of the project are as follows:
    -Lodwar - Lokitaung Junction (80Km) has been awarded to The Third Engineering Bureau of China City Construction Group Company at a cost of KSh.8.3 Billion.
    -Lokitaung Junction - Kalobeyei River (80Km) has been awarded to Chongqing International Construction Corporation at a cost of KSh.8.4 Billion.
    -Kalobeiyei River - Nadapal/Nakodok (88Km) at the South Sudan Border has been awarded to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group Limited at a cost of KSh.7.8 Billion.
    The above contracts followed an earlier signing in September, 2016 of a contract for the construction of the Corridor, between Loichangamatak - Lodwar (50Km) at a cost of Kshs.6.7 Billion and Kainuk Bridge at a cost of Kshs. 1.5 Billion.
    The projects are part of the agreement between the Government of Kenya and the World Bank for the upgrading of the road corridor between Lokichar and Nadapal/Nakodok. The Government of Kenya will finance the construction of the 40 Kilometre section between Lokichar and Loichangamatak.
